2017 U.S. Nationals Championship SD

Wow, poor C/M! I don't understand why the lift was invalid but it looks like they might have been 6th even if it counted?

Madison kinda looks like she's been watching too many Ashley Wagner "shake 'n shimmy programs". Yeah, I know Madison is skating to rock, but her skating doesn't look as refined as it usually is. Her carriage looked a little sloppy.

C/McM program just too generic. Nothing really original about it. Even their level of expression seemed down.

I think that H/D will have the emotional edge in the free along with Kaitlyn and Jean-Luc.

Also, congrats to H/D for being the only team to hit all their levels in the free. That's where they'll get an advantage. 👀

I agree even though I love H/B. I feel that Hawayek is still a bit reserved in expression. She needs to blend a bit more and trust Jean-Luc, who rarely ever seems to put a foot wrong.

I changed the channel, so I can't rewind anymore, but did Cannuscio/McManus rotate at least 3 times? Looking at the rules for lifts and it says for Level 1:

Lifted partner is held off the ice through at least 3 rotations AND Lifting partner moves through at least 3 rotations

That was what I was wondering. I don't think so on the last lift.

Congrats to the Shibs for breaking the national record. Here's to more records being broken. This time two years ago...heck even last year, I doubt most people would have suspected that to happen.

I love how detailed-oriented their SD is. It's obvious they put so much thought and work into this dance and worked with experts in the field while being true to their style so they can actually execute something within their skill set. I loved how much more free and how much more attitude Maia put into this dance. A far cry from the way she performed it at Cup of China.

One score I'm very confused about is the skating skills score between H/D and C/B.

From the judges sheet, it looks like the judges counted one of C/M's movements to be a rotational lift, so when they executed their planned rotational lift at the end, it was counted as an invalid element... hmmm....

Wow that margin between Chock and Bates and Hubbell and Donahue is really tight! I thought they would be closer to the Shibs. That non-touch level 3 was costly.

What did he say?

He said he thought it was the best they had skating this program. He also said that while they handled 'Bad to the Bone" well, it wasn't the best musical choice for them and that they shine much better with "Uptown Funk."

I'd totally agree with that.

Thank you.

I agree with that assessment. I'm sure that Igor is trying to develop different characteristics in them as a team, but the uptick with the second part of their SD is very noticeable. On the other hand, they had the crowd from the beginning. They look very uptight in the first part; but I think that if they can learn to sell that first part, they will be well set for next year.
