2017 Worlds Pairs FS

Hopefully, we'll get back the spot at the Nebelhorn Trophy next season!

No, we won't. If a country earns even one entry in a discipline at Worlds, they are ineligible to obtain spots in that discipline at Nebelhorn

I"m sure Aljiona is disappointed, but I hope this fuels them to be even better for the Olympic season. We know that she wants that OGM, so perhaps it's good that she doesn't peak just yet.

I think this will definitely motivate Alijona that much more. She now knows the OGM is within reach and narrow losses at the Europeans and worlds, especialy knowing she could have won at her best, will fuel her that much more. I will be stunned if the OGM doesnt go to one of Sui & Han or Savchenko & Massot, irregardless that in theory Tarasova & Morozov, Stolbova & Klimov, Duhamel & Radford could all be contenders, but right now I lean to S&M ever so slightly more because this being the whole goal of her comeback I think will really drive her there.

I am so ectastic with Sui & Han's victory and now Bin Yao will have no choice but to consider them Chinese #1 over his pet He Zhang, like it or not.

i had my doubts before but i am now sure that figure skating isnt good for my health :dbana: 1st Yuzuru :sad21::cry: and now Sui&Han, my heart was beating so fast :dbana: finally they got the long waited gold medal they deserved :luv17::hap57: (they still managed to lose level on spin:palmf: ) CONGRATS!!!!! :cheer:

Aliona is amazing though all thing considered. Total veteran respect. Is it true she has not yet been off the podium in all the competitions since seniors.

She was off the podium the first years. But from 2006 on, she's been on the podium every time she's been there. (Just missed the 14-15 season)

Congrats to Sui & Han, at long last finally World Champs! Savchenko & Massot gave them a real battle here, and I predict it will be a real battle between the 2 teams at the Games next year for the gold too, with the others mostly just vying for bronze behind them.

I doubt that. Duhamel/Radford and both of the Russian teams will heavily challenge them, if they are healthy. Their mistakes will not be forgiven against other top teams who can do quads (or a Triple+Triple jump combo for Stolbova/Klimov) and skate clean programs.

Salcow and judges couldn't did it again. What a unlucky jump though! :))
Anyway congrats again Champs, just can't get enough with your SP!!

I don't follow pairs like that but Sui/ Han had the best SP, the best LP..the best everything in the pairs competition for me. They're the first pairs couple and programs I've liked since 6.0 days. So happy that they won. Also, I hope SK-K aren't beating themselves over the 1 spot. They did the best that they could in this deep field with, keeping it real, zero help from D/F. And to be frank, they really are the only relevant pairs team in the U.S. right now. Unless there are drastic changes, it's not like some high quality US pair team will be left home next year.

OMG dying of laughter for the podium pictures, nice lift guys!!

Nope, those spots are for countries that did have not earned a spot at WC.

North Korea has a spot now.

North Korea does not have a spot for sure now. They are surely high contenders for a Nebelhorn spot, but as we saw today, ice is slippery and doing well once is not a guarantee you'll do well the next time.

So happy for S/H, although the victory was kinda bittersweet to me because it ended up a battle between 1 fall and 4 two footed elements.

Still I am glad that S/H got bailed out because of GOE and not PCS or BV stacking otherwise their victory would've felt "gifted".

I doubt that. Duhamel/Radford and both of the Russian teams will heavily challenge them, if they are healthy. Their mistakes will not be forgiven against other top teams who can do quads (or a Triple+Triple jump combo for Stolbova/Klimov) and skate clean programs.

Duhamel & Radford only did clean programs with all their content once ever. I would say Sui & Han and Savchenko & Massot have way better odds to skate cleanly with their current content than D&R, and skating cleanly would also easily go over D&R's scores from worlds last year, the one time ever they did this. D&R also got a World Champ bonus of sorts to their PCS which is now gone, which wont be easy considering the weaknesses of their skating.

Stolbova & Klimov have shown ZERO signs they are anywhere close to contending for a major title again anytime soon. I love them but if they are in contention for a gold medal at next years Games I will be amazed. They cant even do something basic like a triple twist properly anymore, which starts pysch problems in all their skating, and they havent been able to build up any momentum at any point since 2014 now.

Tarasova & Morozov are consistent and technically sound enough but super super boring (they even make Hao Zhang seem exciting which is quite the feat), and wont win a major title without others badly flopping and making much worse errors than here without significantly better and more interesting programs.

You make it sound like those other teams are more likely to skate cleanly which isnt true at all apart from maybe Tarasova & Morozov. Especialy not Stolbova & Klimov who are hands down and by a huge margin the most mistake prone of the unofficial top 5 teams today. A clean or almost clean skate by Sui & Han or Savchenko & Massot is way more likely than a clean skate by super inconsistent S&K or D&R and their ultra risky program which they are mostly chucking skills of.

They are taking a photo on the podium. Han is short compared to the other two (Bruno and Morozov), Bruno and Morozov each lifts Han's arm to be even(?). It is hilarious.

Cong looks so confident and hot on the podium. My Empress singing the national anthem is really lovely.

Thanks to every pair skaters in the event for showing us this great event. Congrats to all medalists.

Savchenko is a legend and just needs OGM for her career. Therefor, keep your hopes up and work on!

Poor Alexa&Chris...If Germany hadn't sent a second team they wouldn't qualify a spot at all and could earn it for themselves at Nebelhorn. Instead they earned a spot they could easily lose at US Nats.
What happens if France gives up a spot? Novosolev might not have citizenship?
