Could it have to do with the quality of the ice? As in, better ice quality means less mistakes, which means better results overall?

I honestly think the field has objectively gotten both bigger and deeper. There is now a Czech and Australian team in the top 16 when in prior years those countries couldn't get minimums; the Croatian team isn't bad and again in prior years couldn't even get the minimum; many teams from countries who have been around for a while are getting stronger (Goda BUTKUTE / Nikita ERMOLAEV were essentially a joke 2 years ago, now they're putting up a score that would have qualified any of the past 5 years). I would personally favor the addition of another FS group assuming this trend continues.

Okay these injuries in pairs is getting out of control. After a season when a lot of the top teams barely skated at all it seemed like all the top teams were finally healthy and ready to go for the gold but now :noshake:

too early to worry but with Eric's injury, and S/B just coming back from injury... i am worried for Canadian pairs... it would be a disaster to lose 3 spots next year... there is already a very worthy pair staying at home right now... ugh

I just went to look at Butkute/Ermolaev's Personal Bests page and Google Translate thought it was in some language called "Shona" which is apparently an ethnic group in Zimbabwe.
