2017 Worlds Pairs SP

Well, since it's doubtful that the top 12 teams will let go of their positions (unless they bomb)... I guess it's time to say goodbye to the fab teams who (mostly) skated really well and won't get to skate the FS :thank: (Something to think about, ISU)

That might be it for Duskova and Bidar. 😢

I'm projecting them to scrape by in 16th place at the moment if none of the other pairs that should get into the FS bomb drastically. Namely, the Italian pairs and D/F.

Which would mean the qualifying score is 63+ :jaw: an increase of like, what, more than 10 points compared to last year!

I really like them a LOT, I'm actually a little obsessed with them lol. I hope they'll somehow get to go to the Olys next year but even though it looks like they are going to qualify for a spot I unfortunately doubt it due to the Olys location.

Olympics are different though. It's probably the one event where they might go even if the location is what it is. Fingers crossed.

Glad to hear Yu and her partner did so well. Have Peng/Him already skated?

Do you think they'll outscore Ziegler and Kiefer?

Unfortunately, primarily due to which country they represent, they are not able to perform more. They qualified for Worlds last year but weren't able to get the visa to the USA. I think due to funding issues with their federation they weren't able to go to a B this year, and they couldn't go to this years 4CCs since those were in South Korea (they did go to last years 4CCs).

British Eurosport guys seem to think they'll get a rousing reception at next year's Olympics due to the "home crowd". Don't they realise they're from North Korea???

Miriam and Severin have a PB around 55 so there is still hope for Anna and Martin (I love their FS)

28 pairs is actually surprising.

True. Last year there were 22 pairs competing and in 2013 there were 18 pairs.

Last 2 junior worlds champions were from non traditional skating countries (CZE & AUS). Great to see the Pair discipline developping!

It has been a long time ago, but didn't both Koreas march in as part of a unified team in Seoul? They may have competed separately, but I think it was a face saving measure to induce the NK to participate.

Or maybe that was another Olympics. Or maybe I've invented the whole thing in my head.

There's still three pairs who have scored lower in their best SP (Hungary, Germany, Austria) and a handful whose bests are in the mid-60s. It's not over yet.
Okay, I am holding out hope! But I think it's gonna be very close for them. And plus I love Ziegler and Kiefer so maybe I'm overestimating them.
