2017 Worlds Pairs SP

British Eurosport guys seem to think they'll get a rousing reception at next year's Olympics due to the "home crowd". Don't they realise they're from North Korea???

The fact that the governments are hostile to each other does not necessarily mean that the people are. I guess there are still a lot of family connections across the border, even if they are difficult to maintain.

They could still qualify. Not so likely at this point, but they're not out yet.

It seems the upstarts have done a very good job in the early rounds.

It won't take much for the higher ranked pairs to miss the FS. A fall on SBS jumps, for example, might do it. It depends on judges' inclination to prop them up with PCS.

Note: Can't watch the competition... just following the thread.

It has been a long time ago, but didn't both Koreas march in as part of a unified team in Seoul? They may have competed separately, but I think it was a face saving measure to induce the NK to participate.
Or maybe that was another Olympics. Or maybe I've invented the whole thing in my head.

Yes, that is precisely what I was thinking about. They did march together in Sydney and Turin IIRC. In any case bodes well that possibly they might go.

You missed one really good group, but welcome back nonetheless :)

I know. :disapp: But, I was taping it and will catch up in the morning.

With the North Koreans AND the hottie and the auld man in it, I can imagine how good it was!

I imagine and in fact have heard that many Koreans feel they are Korean. They belong to one country The thing that keeps them separated as a unified country is a corrupt, fascist government of the North.
There are many stories of South Koreans aiding North Koreans in many ways.

Almost cried when the North Korean girl kept into her coach's arms!

That might be it for Duskova and Bidar. 😢

Unfortunately I think you're right. There is still Oberstdorf next autumn...

And I liked the North Korean team but if they earn the Olympic spot , their government won't let them skate at the Olympics held in SOUTH Korea! I am not an expert but I'm interested in the Korean conflict and I read a few books about it from which it really doesn't look like North Koreans could compete or even visit South Korea...

Isn't it now that we start seeing Q's?

There are 4 teams currently at the top that I want to see some alongside!

They seem very happy. Hungary can be proud of having a good day! They just need to get that little Alexander Borovoj to qualify next year! I love him :)

I mentioned some of this in a different post too. Besides those still to go who have PBs less than 60, there's a handful in the 60s and low 70s that could have bombing issues.

Plus all the injury reports earlier.

Also where are all the strong Japanese pairs teams? Given their legacy and bounty of single skaters with not enough room at the top, you'd think they'd have built up a solid pairs program by now

Well, besides Hungary, Germany and Austria, we still have teams that can miss the FS, especially if the cut off is the low 60s. Both Italian teams, D/F and even S/B have scored low in the past, especially if they miss an element. That could really change things up.

Yea but the North Korean public won't be able to attend (unless they're high up in the politburo, and even then they'll be watched every minute of the day).

Yeah, if the Czechs, Aussies, and Japanese don't get spots here they should be top of the qualifiers at Nebelhorn

Yup, once the first pair finishes.
