These two always have very pristine and lovely elements, but I feel the same watching them as I feel watching paint dry... they seem to think a few strategically placed overly big arm movements qualify as 'emotion'.

Well they just getting started, so i suppose they may develop into something interesting later on.

Best performance from them so far. The program is really not my type, but they sold it well. Their unison was like Shibutanis' famous twizzles.

I think there is also some ethnic background to that. Japanese men are mostly not very tall, so maybe could be also an issue of finding a guy who can skate well enough and be able to lift and throw a female partner.

This too. The physicality is an issue, plus finding skaters who WANT to do pairs (daredevils are needed!)

It seems like they're working on it now. They had a Junior pair place 13/16 at Junior Worlds and have had some more competing lately.

It's not about the system for them, it's because they had a horrible skate.

Yes OK, but still...Butkute/Ermolaev were not so bad and are pretty low (I'm not talking about points just about places and chances for the Olympics). Japanese pair was quite good but don't have such a big chance for FS and they would deserve it with program like this (another thing is chance for his citizenship and their Olympic chances are very bad anyway).

So... Z/E with higher PCS than Y/Z...

Either the judges REALLY didn't like Y/Z's step sequence, or Y/Z skating early really really screwed with them.

Congrats to Natalia Z! She used to skate at my rink in Virginia when she skated for Estonia! So happy to see her and her new partner doing well.

I know that they have very few fans here, but their music reminds me of the glorious SP from Totmianina/Marinin 2006 Olympic SP. Which I absolutely adore. A perfect music for the glacial Totmianina. I still miss them

Fur coats are rather common and popular in Russia, so may be just their normal gear for cold =)
(well as a siberian, i can assure that when its -20 every day, fur coats are the best)
