I don't really get why everyone hates Edith Piaf around here? I've got no problems with Wakaba's FS choice, vocals or no vocals.

1st, i don't like old french songs.
2nd, i don't like Edith Piaf's voice.
3rd, i really don't like "l'hymne à l'amour".

But maybe the choreo and the interpretation will make me forget that. I hope.

To be fair to Yuna we never got to see her FS fully clean, so I think this is a good opportunity to perfect the nuances of the program. Also, does anyone have info on Mako's programs? They will probably be by Mihoko Higuchi but I'm curious as to the music choice. I guess we will see next week though ;)

Well, apart from the fact that I don't like french-sung music(a few exceptions), don't like her as a singer and don't like the musical style in terms of personal preference... I also think that music like that is something that requires a specific type of a performer and Wakaba's as far away from that type as possible.

Ah right, and the important thing. I think that this is a much worse song for figure skating than some other Edith Piaf songs. This just has no highlights and nothing going on.

I saw on ig that her SP is Una voce poco fa and FS is Madame butterfly both by Mihoko but I don’t know the source of this information or how reliable it is.

Edit: It’s been confirmed on twitter https://twitter.com/InTheLoPodcast/status/1021787166123253763?s=20

OK, i see what kind of tango she will do. But i thought that her music was selection of multiples songs by Piazzola?
I kinda like her music for the SP. Tsurskaya used it for her LP last season.

the lannisters send their regards

According to this tweet, this is the Seven Nation Army cover that Marin is using

I'm not sure how this works as figure skating music. I like the original one a lot because it has so much energy and passion. This version is so much slower and utterly devoid of expression that would do well for skating. I think it would be great in the background of some lounge of a restaurant, but there's no energy. It feels like an awkward attempt at doing something new, but not fully committing.

I absolutely love Wakaba's Edith Piaf choice. I love Edith Piaf although I didn't really pay any attention to her until the last 5 years or so... with time I really grew to appreciate it. I think it's an interesting choice and a real departure for Wakaba... this is the time to try something new, after all.

I hate Edith Piaf's voice, probably because i'm french and i've had to listen to her all my life (they really found a way to put her songs in every movies i've seen in my childhood). BUT i will not decide until i have seen Wakaba's program. There's a chance it's a cover, like Kihira's La vie en rose EX that was a cover (please let it be it be it). We'll see. One thing for sure is the japanese girls saved us from the warhorses

I am going to reserve judgement until I see Wakaba's program. I don't have strong feelings about Edith Piaf either way- I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it but also wouldn't be annoyed to hear it playing somewhere. Wakaba strikes me as someone who knows herself and her goals. If she is trying to challenge herself as a performer this year I am all for it- she is one of my favorite current skaters. I hope that world's has given her some much needed confidence.

Better than Piaf.

I wouldn't say better, but easier on the ear. Piaf is an acquired taste. But it seemed to work for Kaetlyn Osmond. I would like to know what inspired Yuka Sato to choose it for Wakaba. Looking forward to finding out which version of the song and how Wakaba handles it.

It is strange indeed how many posters are disappointed only because they don't like the music? It isn't a warhorse. I get it, if someone is not fond of the music, but let's wait and see what Wakaba actually does with it? She's not staying in a comfort zone, she's branching out and trying things. Do you want her to pick another Bond/Adele song? Do the same thing over? I actually think it's the right decision to go the 'Osmond' route. She's a more powerful skater like Kaetlyn, and Piaf worked well for Kaetlyn. It's so discouraging to read 'I'm so disappointed' before the season even happened. Can't we have a bit more patience and trust?

I like that she's not staying in her comfort zone. Just wished that she would pick another song. I'm disappointed by the music but i don't think that it will be a total miss. I wait to see the program.

Werent we all listening Adele's voice all our life tho...
I would consider chosing Edith Piaf as more original

Akiko Suzuki's last SP was L'hymne à l'amour. She chose the song because it was her coach's favorite. This version of L'hymne à l'amour was recorded for her SP by her musician friends. The choreographer is Massimo Scali.
