Too early in the season to say anything about Worlds. We have all the season until then to see how everybody performs, improves. I'm just so proud of Satoko for working on improving her jumps, Marin for landing all of them and Kaori for simply being her usual fantastic self. I'm lowkey hoping for an all japanese podium (even tho i'd love Polina to podium too) but i'm worried for Marin's jumps in the FS.

If clean, Rika Kihira will be the one to challenge Alina for the World title. Satoko doesn't even get near Alina's PCS, let alone TES.

Great short programs from the Japanese ladies at Skate America! That was possibly the cleanest 3Lz-3T I've seen from Satoko. Work with Ghislain Briand seems to be paying off. I thought Marin deserved more.

Novice A podium:

Sara will have one more season in novice. She can try again to win the title next season.

Congratulations to Rika Tejima winning the NvA national. And good job with Sara Honda (attempting 3Lz-3T later on in the program, though with 3T<<)

Here's a report (in Japanese) introducing NvA skaters. The first photo is Tejima in red dress. Tejima trains together with Yoshida. She was behind Yoshida last season due to injury. So nice recovery from Tejima to come back and winning NvA: https://news.walkerplus.com/article/166010/

Tejima and Yoshida can be contenders for medals next season in JGP for Japan.

Since Yoshida couldn't skate at novice nats, i assume she can't take part to junior nats.

The Japanese ladies were clearly a class above at skate America. I was there and they all got the most standing ovations.

Great news. I'm hoping they kill it in the free skate as well. An all japanese podium would make me very happy :luv17:

Congrats to Satoko and Kaori on another 1-2 finish at Skate America! Wonderful skates.

Eeek, poor Marin. Another case of nerves for her and that TES... yikes. :slink: Hope she can bounce back for her next GP, because she really does have lovely skating and programs, but she's just not bringing the competitiveness.

:yahoo::hap10: very happy with the results. Marin's fs, well, it was not unexpected. She usually loses confidence if she makes mistakes early in the program. Very proud of Kaori & Satoko for such strong performances. God Satoko's FS is just wonderful  she definitely deserves higher PCS, much higher. Call her urs if you want but give her the damn pcs! :ddevil: strong debut for the japanese girls. I hope we can see them perform like that all season! :agree:

Oh, Marin  I hope Raf can get her someone to handle the jitters, because she is too talented to keep struggling like this... and of course, hopefully the falls didn't hurt her knee too badly and she'll be in better form for next time.

edit: not that her chances of medalling at IdF are great with Rika and Med around, but she has a whole month to work things out... Nathan, give her your TES scores! :roll5:

Congrats to Kaori and Satoko for their medals. I really thought that Kaori had won after Satoko's skate. But well, silver is not bad.
Oh Marin, you will get better. There are worlds and olympic champions who struggled like that.

I had wished she won... because I LOVE Kaori but I do believe Satoko should have won.

I am not the Satoko fan that most people are (I love her, but apparently not as much as others) and I was not a huge fan of her programs this season but the confidence she exuded this competition really sold them to me.

Funny enough, Satoko's lead in the SP was due to her higher BV and a +1pt gain in PCS. Kaori got more points from GOE. Kaori lost out on 0.8pts in BV in levels of her FCSp (which SHE always gets a level 3 on... so maybe rework?) and her step sequence which was reworked (she got a level 2 in Lombardia).

I personally think Kaori's PCS could be at least +2-3pts higher but that will come as she builds reputation. On the flipside, I think Satoko deserved +3-5pts.

and my poor Marin. Raf did say she was a two year project...

Congrats to Satoko and Kaori for going 1-2. I absolutely love Satoko's SP, much more than her FS.

Marin's SS and carriage is just...breathtaking. Even with the meltdown it was beautiful just watching her skate. She actually reminds me of Mao in many ways but with less competitive fire/grit..

She is an amazing skater to watch live, and floats like Mao but needs some more grit and work ethic.

That being said, I think the fall might have injured her, she had a scraped knee and popped almost every jump. It's a bit early to expect big changes from Raf, but I hope the success of the SP is a peek at what she is capable of.

Also, that first fall looked especially wonky on her landing leg and she immediately unlaced that boot and slipped her foot halfway out in the K&C so I think she definitely tweaked something.

I wouldn't hold my breath on PCS increases. After all these years they still only have Satoko at low 70's and Wakaba hardly ever gets 70. Comparatively the judges having Kaori only 3 pts behind Satoko was pretty generous. Sakamoto has improved since last year however, and the more mature look helps too.

Poor Marin. :( I am obviously a huge fan of her skating skills and flow, just gorgeous. Apparently the poor kid was dealing with an ankle injury. Hope she can rest up and be healthy and ready to show her stuff in France. Fingers crossed!
Congrats to Kaori and Satoko. Simply perfect skates.
