2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Was she practicing it in Ljubljana or was it before?

Ljubljana. There was a video of two of her attempts. I posted it in this thread a few pages ago and someone already had posted it in her fanfest, so you can find it there, too. The height looked pretty good but she rotates too slowly that‘s why she didn‘t land it. However, it did look promising and if she manages to improve the rotational speed, she could very well land it one day. Now, however, it isn‘t anywhere near enough to put it in competition I‘d say.

On another note: Are there any news from Sabina Zagitova? I know I asked some time ago and she didn‘t seem like the most promising talent then but if she‘s anything like her sister in this regard, she‘ll be lackluster for a long time until then suddenly starting to throw it down in her first junior season.

Just a few months ago people weren’t sure if Tarakanova had all her triples back. A quad, even if it’s not close to competition ready, is a big step.

Today it became clear, Dasha and Polina no longer correspond to the high level of the group Eteri, sad but true ((

Hi folks,

Just a friendly reminder:

Please keep ALL competition chat in the Competition forums until the entire event is over. This includes scores, starting orders, elements, GOES, links to videos, analyzing, discussing, comparing, etc.

Exception: You may discuss a skater's performance in their individual Fan Fest folder as long as you are not comparing them to other skaters or posting general event info.

Thanks for you understanding and for supporting Golden Skate!

hopefully it is ok to say that, for example, so far Tuktik looks like she will be the russian #3 (well, we didnt see Sotskova yet).

I‘m starting to worry about Tsurskaya. She has everything needed to be Russian #3. Her jumps are to die for and they are so high yet she somehow still doesn‘t get all the way around on most of them... URs all the time. Is there any way to fix this at all? Since Masha has been struggling with those URs I‘m a bit pessimistic here.

But I agree about Liza: She seems to be in great shape.

I just don't think Tuk is good enough. Her entry into the 3A was crawling to almost a standstill. I still don't get her scores and her spins are pretty mediocre. Yes she has 3A and textbook jumps but they aren't that high nor cover much distance. She's always been a question mark to me.

I just realized that Maria S. is not entered in any senior B event so far? It's kind of strange, since all top Russian senior ladies have at least one to this point.

My thoughts are kinda like this... Those are the girls doing GP this season, and the 3 will be likely selected from them:

Stanislava Konstantinova
Evgenia Medvedeva
Daria Panenkova
Elena Radionova
Sofia Samodurova
Maria Sotskova
Polina Tsurskaya
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
Alina Zagitova

#1/#2
Zagitova looks very solid so far, and based on what she showed, it is very unlikely she is out of the team.
Zhenya, while not so solid, is still doing well, and I do not see rusfed leaving her out of the team this year no matter what.

No spots:
Daria Panenkova and Elena Radionova had pretty meh outings so far. Lena, based on her past seasons, probably will not make it. Dasha, based on her current form, does not look like she will compete for the spots either.

Mishin:
Mishin got 2 skaters there, Sofia Samodurova and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva. Both have Mishin programs, but Tuktik has 3A, so if she is cleanish, she has a chance.

Buianova:
She got Maria Sotskova and Polina Tsurskaya. Out of those two, she will likely lobby for Masha, who is her long time student, and not for Polya, who showed up just now. Also, both struggle with URs, but Masha, i think, is more consistent.

Konstantinova... I have no clue. If rusfed keeps propping her, she has a chance, else nope.

So my thought here is that the #3 spot will go to one of the 3 girls - Tuktik, Masha or Stasya. This will be tricky because will depend on politics more than actual performances, unless one of them has a MAJOR meltdown at rusnats.

Well... if tarankova is trying in public practice pre competition a 4 ... that means that she already can land the 4 in trainning ... so it just a matter of time to put in the programs

If Tuktamysheva keeps performing this way, and Sotskova continues to be her usual self/Buianova doesn't address Tsurskaya's rotation problems, I think she pretty much has a lock on being the Russian #3 this year. I just don't see anyone else going at it with the kind of attack that she is right now.

Who in his right mind let Radionova skate this short this year :eeking:? It doesn't look seductive, it looks cheap and cringe-worthy. Compared to other polished and elegant programs from other Russian women, it is such a big minus point for her!

Im not shure about he landing it in practice. It seams like the kind of thing that would be on the AoP instagram if it had happened and I havnt seen anything about her 4T there.

Im guessing it could be a PR thing trying it here when she knows everyone is watching. To get som attention and say that she wants to compete with the 3A

Never mind, finally got translate to work, Vakhitova. Wow. And Nugumanova double wow (those spins.) And Polina Tsurskaya Triple Wow. Those huge jumps.

Have you not watched any of her programs in the last 4 years? Cheap and cringey is kinda her brand. Her energy is what makes them fun.

Can we have Nugumanova back on the national team?

Panenkova looked very bad, worse than at test skates, she seems to have gained weight.

team changes once a year, and is defined based on the previous year performances, mostly nationals.
also, team does not change because of one bad skate.

here’s to hoping Nugumanova doesn’t just randomly withdraw from the free skate. I actually quite enjoy her free skate this season.
