May I suggest ski jumping as a sport you would enjoy
Exactly. This is a sport, not kindergarten. No one should get an A for effort. If you're going to do something, do it well. And if you can't, then your score will rightfully reflect that. It's not that difficult a concept. The whole "they shouldn't be afraid to try things" logic is just silly. Practice is why you try and fall. Competition is where you have to deliver. That's that.
Seeing Jason's performance live I honestly can totally back up that score - if others can do quads this effortless AND add a superb quality of movement, skating all around as Jason does then they are capable of scoring proportionally higher, no need really for me to diminish Jason and his score.
He embodied quality in every single element executed and added a wonderful finish to them, making them effortless, harmonious, but with that snap and edge. None of sloppiness, slowness or overwrought skating - none of Men made the music sound so well like Jason did, he gave it a shape, a beautiful one that captivated the audience for the whole time - I will repeat to death, some skaters impress by quads, others are using things they are good at to do so, Jason showed today that there are good things to be excited about and worth reward.
A rather surprising result... As usually the placements might change a lot in the freeskate. Such a pity Chen had a fall and that goes for Jin as well. Maybe the latter was suffering from jet-lag since he arrived so late? Better be more careful in future and get the visa early enough!
I think the judges are under a lot of pressure not to give skates with falls higher PCS than those who are clean.
I think the new system is really about cleaning up the falling because falling and still winning a medal confused casual viewers.
I call BS on Samarin's jump GOEs. You had a visibly flawed landing, you don't get + goes. It's not like he had amazing transitions/entry to make up for it either. And the pcs is a disgrace. How did he get 8+ across the board for SS? This some multple-quad-program pcs bonus nonsense.
Especially because.....it’s possible to have both. Hanyu exists. Not sure why some people screaming "B-b-but sPoRtSSS" actually. If you're so worried about your average quadster not winning, maybe it's time to tell them to learn how to skate. And you know, actually have better quads with transitions and flow-out. Just a thought.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, jumps are only a fraction of the score and sloppiness shouldn't be rewarded over well-executed elements that cover every aspect of skating (not just the jumps though Jason's were extremely well done) including spins, steps, and skating skills, so I feel pretty good about it.
And OUCH, Jin got hammered on that score, but hey...them's the breaks.
As much as I appreciate Jason, he still needs a quad to challenge. Right now, he is counting on his competitors to make a mistake, and he much be clean all the time.
And that is the issue. As a skater, you cant be perfect all the time, but you hope you have enough buffer to carry you through, and that is what Jason needs.
I think Jason will be the only guy without a quad in the free skate, which is crazy because he would be able to rival his competitors unless they make mistakes and he goes very clean.
I hope he will try a quad and not pop one. He has nothing to lose really. It's not like he's going to the GPF with a gold.
