2018 Olympic Season: Men's Figure Skating

Mikhail is the one on the bottom middle, and the drawing references his Baba Yaga EX.

The costume - yes, but the watermelons related I think to his 'Nu Pogodi' costume, IIRC Japanese fans even used to call him a 'watermelon' in that season:

Edit: talking of Baba Yaga, a lovely pic (just saw the link to it in the Mika's VK page hope it is alright to post it here):

'Misha on his way to the final. Nice to know you can save money on planes.'' - priceless!

 Good, cheap mode of transportation. Though it might get cold in there!

saving 4Lz in competition is a priority:cool14::laugh:

I'm having a hard time remembering and finding the answer in forum threads. Which skater was using Delilah by Tom Jones this season? Is he still using it or has someone whispered to him it was a tad inappropriate?

Daniel Samohin used it as his SP last season, but I don't recall anything inappropriate about it.

Exactly! If infidelity and crimes of passion were “inappropriate” for skating music, three quarters of the operas and movie soundtracks would be out of bounds:laugh:

Plus I love me some Tom Jones; but I am that age;)

Thanks! I'm sure I heard it this season in one of the Challengers, possibly an early GP. Perhaps he still used it then?

To me those lyrics are totally inappropriate for this day and age, can't help it.

elhenry, I think I'm around there, too! My mom tells me that when I was around three years old, I had some serious crushes on Tom Jones and Elvis. I'm wondering what they were watching on TV when I was up... LOL

How much I missed Judy Javi & Boyasha this GPF:(

Comp seems incomplete without them

A new entry in the club of 4Lz

15 year old Daniel Grassl of Italy landed it today at Golden Spin. GOE: one -1, one +1 and the rest 0s.

I read on twitter that Han Yan will skip the nationals and prepare for 4CC and the Olympics, and Boyang, too? It must be good decision especially for Boyang considering his injury. I wish both skaters the best :)

Here's a look at a few interesting data for the Men so far this season:

BEST ELEMENTS OF THE 2017-2018 SEASON (SENIORS)
Lists elements with the highest score and the highest GOE
Note: Also has Ladies and Pairs. If anyone who understands Ice Dance wants to add them in, it's free to edit.

2017-2018 SEASON AVERAGE SCORES, GOE, PCS, ETC
Averages of the season so far (GOE, Scores, PCS, TES and BV), from ISU-sanctioned competitions. Includes men from the GPF and others.
Note: Patrick's scores can't really be averaged since he's only had one sanctioned competition so far. :(

Please let me know if you spot any mistakes.

You should add Jason's ChSq from GPF. It got 2.10, max GOE. :) (he also got another max GOE on the camel, but he's already on there for that.... :) )

Also here's a thread to talk about Hanyu and whether his berth is in question: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...-Olympic-berth-criteria&p=1886264#post1886264

Done! I had a busy weekend so I hadn't managed to update the sheets yet.

Looking back to the start of this thread and reading it again, it's shocking how this season went instead. I thought that the GPF would shine a bit of light on the question who will win the OGM or even only podium. I had that neat little theory that the one who wins GPF won't win the Olympics. Now, I'm not so sure. At the moment I see a tendency for a podium consisting of Javier Fernandez, Nathan Chen and Shoma Uno. The 'dark horses' we talked about a few months ago, I think one of them could come in and snatch a medal. Nathan Chen is still my personal guess for the OGM. Even if it won't work out, he will podium, I'm pretty sure of that. He is the only one who I don't see off podium, while I'm not so confident in Javier or Shoma. Boyang and Yuzuru are injured so no sightings and no idea on how they'll do. They could come back strong, but the past shows that healing from injuries is more than just physical. Patrick Chan could be a dark horse. Or not. Honestly, I have no idea what role he will play. I think the judges are still more than willing to give him good scores, but he's got to show he really wants it. At this point of the season, everything still seems so unpredictable and not in a good way.

Mikhail is a dark horse to me after the GPF for Olympic medal or even OG. His PCS has been better than Nathan's now, so if
he can stand upright with rotated quads, he might have an Adelina repeat?

I could see him win only if he's clean and everyone else makes mistakes. But has Kolyada ever skated two clean programs in one competition? The possibility of skating clean I see in Nathan, Shoma, Javier, Yuzuru and Boyang. Some of them are higher, some lower. Patrick Chan can skate clean, but I think it's been a while since he did. For Kolyada, I don't remember. And he's not at that level yet where he can beat the other top men with mistakes. Adelina was clean and Russian in Russia. There is a small chance for Mikhail, but personally I would say it's less than 5%. Podium is a different story, though. Doable.

Kolyada skated two clean programs at Worlds 2016, obviously. But with the content he has now he definitely hasn't.

If you look at who’s been able to peak strongly at Worlds, the number includes Javi, Yuzu, Shoma and Boyang. Maybe Mikhail if you count his debut fourth. To me Nathan is still unproven under big, big pressure. I expect him to excel at Nationals, but that’s not a high pressure situation for him. He and Shoma looked very beatable at the GPF. Of course, this year Javi has looked vulnerable and Yuzu is injured. But we know they can pull it out at the right moment.

If Kolyada skates clean, he’d be a deserving gold medalist. Not likely, but possible. In my opinion his best is better than Uno and Chen’s, but we’re less likely to see it. But it would be a splendid sight.

Yuzu’s health is a big question mark, but psychologically he’s in a good place. When his back is against the wall is when he really brings it.
