Ok, so I just tried buying a ticket via the official website for one of the practice sessions, but a Visa is needed for payment. I only have a MasterCard. Has anyone with a Visa tried purchasing a ticket?

You can find the practice tickets by selecting the date on which the practice takes place in the calendar.

One again, if anyone is able to buy them, please PM me.

Yes they only accept Visa (official card of the games and all).

I can confirm that I’ve been able to check out with a Visa card.

Yes, reserving a seat is a separate process.

Yes, it is possible to procure the said seats at the ticket counter at the train station, if seats are available. If they run out of seats, you can use the "non-reserved-seat" car or you can stand.

Korail designates the T8 car of each KTX train set as the "non-reserved-seat" car from time to time, if the traffic is not heavy. For (counter-) example, during the New Year Holiday period (Feb 15-18), T8 will become a "reserved-seat" car.

But I also heard that they limit the number of "standing" people, so please be careful.

thanks so much Seabm7 for the clarification! That takes a load off my mind. It seems like I really need to carefully plan my inter-city travel and make the bookings for seats before flying off. I'm anticipating lots of people on the KTX trains during the Olympic season, so am trying not to take chances with this XD

Have you guys seen this article about a possible US Boycott of the games??? http://www.nbcolympics.com/news/us-...st-potential-2018-pyeongchang-olympic-boycott

Thanks for the link mrrice, I don't think there's ever been an actual possibility of the US boycotting the games, if anything that article reaffirms that the USFS and USOC plans to bring a full delegation. The articleis mainly in response to Senator Graham's tweets regarding North Korea, thus far I haven't seen any other Senators mention this (publicly) at least.

I am glad that my train and accommodation are sorted in Gangneung. I hate uncertainties and waiting. Good luck with those trying to get train tickets or accommodation.

You are lucky to be able to stay in Gangneung. I am now very worried about getting myself to the arena from Seoul during men event!

try checking out sites like booking.com for accomodations around Gangneung! last i checked there're still a few hostels available for booking, tho those nearer to the event venues may be booked out already

By a degree of luck, I was able to grab men's practice tickets this morning!

Also discovered that the geo-restriction on purchasing tickets for the US seems to be lifted and I was able to buy it with my own account from the US, so for those looking for other practice tickets, buy it now as you never know when they'll close it.

I would highly recommend staying in Gangneung or nearby towns like seabm suggested.

Thanks for this message as I was able to get the ladies practice session also now. Phew!

If it's pickup through visit, where do you pickup?

The ticket office or box office. I believe they also sell tickets at some of the train stations or airport train station. This is what I found on the site:

"If you have not requested delivery, you can pick up your tickets at the Main Ticket Centres(Seoul City Hall, Gangwon-do Provincial Hall, Gangneung City Hall) or at the Ticket Box Offices at that time.

The exact location for ticket pick-up will be announced through e-mail or SMS."

I've set my to print at home and I've printed other tickets before. I'm going to try to see if I can get it as an e-ticket on the mobile app for the practice ticket. Supposedly you can gift and transfer them to friends with the app. If I can't, I'll change delivery to print at home.

I tried to print at home, once you pick print at home and “issue ticket”, you can’t change it back to other delivery method. So make sure you could generate an document under “test print” first (the document generate under “test print” is some unrelated certifications with both English and Korean, it’s not going to be your ticket. You will only see your ticket when you click on “issue ticket”. )
kiches You have printed it before, so you might already know, I was scratching my head for hours when I tried to print mine, I hope others don’t suffer from that. :palmf:

Yes I’ve printed before. Took a bit of testing to figure out the region and language issue but it went ok. I wrote out some tips a few pages back.

I’ll double check on the mobile —> print before I stick with mobile. Still waiting for my practice ticket to be issued first.

The Shuttle Schedule between Gangneung and

nearby cities came out, but only in Korean:

http://www.provin.gangwon.kr/gw/portal/sub07_09

Unfortunately, the first bus leaves at 8:00 in the morning from Sokcho. There are 3 lines between Sokcho and Gangneung. One line between Samcheok and Gangneung via Donghae. I'm not sure if these buses have enough seats to accomodate all the figure skating spectators.

The detailed schedule is this one, but right now I do not have free time to convert it to English:

http://www.provin.gangwon.kr/upload/fileattach/bus_kor20180105.hwp

This is the reservation site, but I failed to work it out:

Thanks seabm7! I also got an email in English that mentioned the shuttles will run from 8.00 am to 2.00am, so hopefully they will release more info in English soon. I’m staying in the Donghae area during the Pairs’ and Men’s events and with only one shuttle bus route for Donghae-Gangneung I think I might still need to ask the hotel to help me get a cab every morning

First of all thanks a lot seabm7 for the indeed very valuable help, with all the information you have provided to us so far.

I just found the English version of the announcement -> http://eng.gwd.go.kr/gw/eng/sub04_05

Regarding the reservation it seems it will work at the earliest one week ahead of the intended travel date if I got it right.

Also in case the regular paying intercity buses will also run between Sokcho and Gangneung on top of these free services they might offer an earlier start into the day (5.50 or 6 am) if I am not mistaken.
Although I am looking forward the most for schedules between transportation hubs such as North Gangneung <-> Daegwallyeong <-> Jinbu and also the Intercity bus terminal of Gangenung to North Gangneung relay, which might be interesting for some of us attending competitions at mountain venues as well aside from the figure skating. KTX remains a viable option between Gangneung to Jinbu though.
