2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I have to admit I have never been an especially big fan of Konstantinova, but this year's SP looks really good! The step sequence part was lovely :luv17: I think the program is only going to get better with time and more competitions, so maybe this is the season she'll win me over for good!

Agreed. I've always liked the quality of her skating and her style but I haven't connected with her programs before. But I loved this SP for her.

I hope that Kamila is okay.

Stanislava was really good today at Aurora Games. One of her best overall showings (SP + FS) at an event.

So much going on this week!

As for Nastya's music choices, I think they are both great! Still lamenting her lack of a chance on the GP :(. I will also miss that sp from last year, it never really got a chance to be properly appreciated for the masterpiece it was.

As for Stasya's performance, wow! Like others, I've never been a big fan of her skating, but I thought this was beautiful, and I will enjoy watching it this season.

As for the news about Liza... why would she even make the fact that she's just keeping the choreo public... never mind the fact that she's even doing that in the first place. I feel like the Mishin camp is just parodying themselves with this move... just why....

And as a side note, seeing Kamila's exhibition reminds me of how much I loved her fp last year (which I think is somewhat of an unpopular opinion?). I usually don't like people keeping programs, but I kind of wish she'd just kept this one. It contrasts her sp a little bit better and I think its just a prettier program, although I hope that part of that is just the new one being too new. Anyways, I love her doing ballet so I hope she does more in the future. And I don't hate her fp this year, but it doesn't feel as special as last years yet, and she seems to be focusing a bit more on the jumps, which hopefully will change.

Looked just like that to me, and then that stupid presenter challenged her into throwing a quad?
Gleikhengauz seemed to keep her at the boarding later, protecting his athlete from further nonsense.

Kamila said in the short 1tv.ru feature she has a 'sore spot', probably some thigh muscle by the looks of what happened just now, or her knee, because she crumpled and contorted herself on the ice.
Hopefully they can get it sorted out before Chelyabinsk and even more importanty before JGPF. Just saw Alysa Liu skate a perfect program at the Aurora Games that will most certainly challenge Kamila's.
Have to say I really loved watching Alysa, you could see how much fun she had when she skated, completely relaxed going into her free program, I also liked stasyas programms

Stanislava's new short program is gorgeous

I really like all her short programs, even the previous ones were all amazing, but this one in particular. Wow. Truly a princess.

What i like about her are the improvements she has shown over the seasons: 2a used to be a problem in the past, now it's nice and big, 3 flip last season was a mess, now she does it with new difficult steps going in and even in combination no problem.

I also noticed Stasya’s flip looked much improved. I like the new entrance for her. She is not going to give up without a fight. Know the programs were a bit modified for this competition format, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her skate so well across both segments of a competition before.

Konstantinova seems to have improved a lot because her new sp is very good. Her arm movements esp at the start were exquisite

I had a similar feeling. Maiia's jumps did not look good until the test skate, where she showed significant improvement in almost all aspects. But today she regressed probably due to her nerve. I have a feeling she won't stay with Eteri for too long because of her weak jumps, combined with the fact she is already pretty tall at the age of 13.
On the podium, Maya looked about same height as Wi Seo Yeong - listed height 161 cm. Sure she's only 13 and can grow more but I'm not sure 5'3" is "pretty tall". Does anyone remember her height a year ago?

Watching Stasya's SP I can already see TAT crying and thanking gods for her performance and saying it's "the actual REAL mature female figure skating" LOL
Not a big fan of her jumps or her skating, but the program, music choice and costume are lovely!

Her scores should be closer to Medvedeva and Zagitova for real, if we take out all the reputation, looking at what it's on the ice. All three are very similar skaters, with Zagitova being slightly less expressive but definitely a stronger jumper (and spinner compared to Zhenya)

I couldn‘t watch the JGP gala today because I had to catch up with the Aurora Games. So much skating already and it‘s only the beginning of the season - love it!

Anyway, I really enjoyed Stasya today. I‘m a fan of the SP already and she really attacked that FS as well - even though it‘s just a substitute program. Two of the best back to back performances from her I‘ve seen. As others have noted, it‘s nice to see her improve. Her 3F looked crazy last season and now it‘s beautiful, she even managed to save the combination in the SP and put a 3T on it. Well done. :)

What happened to Kamila in the gala? I read she took a hard fall but why do some assume she‘s injured? Anyway, I‘ll watch the gala tomorrow but hopefully she‘s fine and rests now. Maybe rusfed should consider sending her to the last JGP event to let her prepare a bit more calmly and if she‘s really nursing an injury, having more time could be crucial too. Fingers crossed for her.

Kamila messed up her 3f and fell on her second 3lz but did a 3f-3s and 3lz-3t afterward.

I am becoming less and less a fan of Liza T. This has nothing to do with her as a person. It has to do with how her skating is. She and her team water down choreography. She keeps doing tango-like programs. She refuses to work on her spins. She just seems to be drilling jumps and staying on social media.☹️

Me too. I really want to see her succeed, but her basic skating and presentation has not really improved in years. She's not a naturally gifted spinner, I can understand that, but what she really needs to improve is the quality of her program. Taking out choreography and slapping it on to different music makes no sense. Well it does, knowing her coach is Mishin. But that is what is going to keep her down below 4A if all are clean. (same with Samodurova). All the jumps in the world won't matter if the basic skating doesn't improve.

Well, I didn‘t see it for myself so I can‘t judge. But that sounds like mistakes happening due to altitude and overall tiredness maybe. It must have been a couple of stressful days for her, can‘t blame her. Hoping she‘s fine.

Liza's new SP will be a tango by Astor P., but with the old Shae-Lynn choreo... how????

Did I read that right....? She will just use choreography that was made for entirely different music and put it onto a new program? And she‘s publicly announcing it as well? Why just why. Liza has three 3As and she‘s a great performer but if her team keeps doing that to her programs she will never get the top PCS. And that‘s just sad because with her high TES and that beautiful technique on her jumps she could win everything. It seems as if they‘re intentionally holding her back. I just don’t get it.

they shouldn't have been public about the fact that they are keeping (part of?) the choreo and changing the music, like who just goes out and admits that
However, I could imagine Shae-lynn being utterly surprised if she just saw her choreo changed and completely modified to a different piece... she'd be like: "I don't remember ever doing that!"

Thank you Luna. Awesome Stasya. people have to remember she didn't start figure skating at three or four years old she was about 8 years old so Stazya is a late bloomer for sure.

Alysa was amazing. Much more polished than I remember. Two triple axels and a quad lutz at 14. Watch out. I know the top younger Russian girls are really short but they're about 5 ft tall while Alysa is only about 4 feet 7 and I would doubt it if she even got to 4 ft 10 in tall at her tallest. This is such an advantage for Alysa. Kamila I believe 4 feet 11 inches tall and all of 3A are taller than her I believe and probably getting a little bit taller. The reality is the shorter you are the ladies figure skating the better chance you have to use the very unique and tough moves that told the girls can't do as well or as naturally because they're much taller and longer. I'm thinking about Stasya who is about a foot taller than Alysa.

Also how can Alysa compete at the Aurora games? Isn't she age restricted for anything involving seniors?

Nice to see Nancy Kerrigan there too. She sort of disappeared after 1994.

Has there been any girl or ladies figure skater taller than 5 ft 2 in tall ever had a quad or a triple axel?
