2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

My understanding is that since she moved after the official transfer window, officially she represented Sambo last season, even if she was with Plushy.

Apart from the FFKKR stipend and other money matters, does this mean Tarakanova's results in 2018/19 season are added to Sambo-70's tally?

errr about coaches 'ruining' someone's career...
Just because someone looks like an angel it doesnt mean its easy to work with such teenager.

I wonder--maybe when she says choreo she is referring to transitions. Lots of skater do same/similar transitions in very different programs either into/out of jumps or into spins/in the choreo sequence. We'll see though.

I hope they don’t try to pin the choreography on ShaeLynn though. I assume she choreographed the moves with the original music in mind, not as some generic program that would look good with any music. I’m confused by this move ... has anybody tried to do something like this before? It’s almost like they thought it’s the name of the choreographer that matters, not the actual
choreography.

Well the main problem here is that Lozko wasn't allowed to change coaches. If there was something wrong with her character, wouldn't her coaching team be more likely to let her go easily rather than make sure that she can't do so?

And so this is a good reason for ruining that person's chances? If she was difficult to work with why did he prevent her from working with anyone else? This is not an excuse for sure.

It seems very petty on the part of Mishin. Denying one of his athletes a chance, just because she can get this chance in Moscow.

Well, if she said that judges wouldn't understand, that could have been reasonable. But what kind of audience would like another tango piece after a whole season of tangos in both singles and dance instead of a modern piece not many skaters have skated to?

The whole "judges won't understand" reminds me of when Mishin nixed Plushy's Gary Moore program. In that case, though, it was more along the lines of "audiences don't like" - and at least Plush got to perform the program at a few shows before it was… gone. I would have liked to see Shae-Lynn's program just once at least…

Sigh... Oh, well…

Here's Plushy's program:

Just posting it as an example of what Mishin doesn't like - presumably Drummer Song was just too out of the box of a music choice for him.

I just saw the video of Liza practicing her new SP and it basically looks like last year's SP with different music. It feels wrong that they're still trying to tack Shae-Lynn's name onto it.

Some choreographers are very protective of their work. There have been choreographers who will complain to the media about their choreo being altered too much. Phillip Mills and Ashley Wagner fell out over this, IIRC. I think it was an issue between Michelle Kwan and Christopher Dean at some point, too?

This instance sounds particularly egregious, since they are changing the music entirely. That's probably a permanent bridge burned with Shae Lynne, and in the future Liza might have a hard time getting ANY big name choreographer to work with her.

He didn't like this but he was okay with Sex Bomb? :laugh2:

True, but this isn't about a coach terminating a relationship with a skater because they're not easy to work with (like Plushenko and Buyanova with Tarakanova and Gubanova). This is a coach preventing a skater from moving to another coach out of spite. It has nothing to do with a teenager being difficult to work with; it's a coach wanting to keep a skater by sabotaging their opportunity to work with someone else, all the while holding them down in their own group.

It's even worse, because she already was at the rink of the new coach. It is like you are working at a new job, and your previous job got you fired. Now you do not have any job or income.

This shouldn't be dismissed so easily. Previous coaches, like Eteri, Plushenko, Buyanova, and even Goncharenko to a lesser extent were criticized on the comments they made about their students when they left. But imo, it's coach's right to comment on their student when referring to the time of their coaching relationship. Just as the students can comment on the relationship as well. That includes things like unfairness, difficult characters, behavioural issues that don't align with the coaching team. But when a skater leaves, I don't think the coach can have any say in their future as they are no longer their pupils. All the comments from the coaches above were about the skater when they were their students. But what Mishin was doing was interfering with someone when they were no longer his student ie. there was no relationship between them. That's sabotage.

Yes, Alisa was never a big name and didn't have any international recognition unlike Radionova, Medvedeva, Tarakanova, Gubanova, etc. And yeah Mishin is one of the most legendary coaches in the country producing multiple world and olympic medals. But that's not an excuse.

I think this all comes from SPb and Mishin's deep rooted aversion/jealousy against Moscow.
As a professional he should know the local federations get rewarded by their results. If you want more money, work towards better results, if you want better results and need money, appeal to the city council, attract some sponsors, raise the fees, but don't waste money on choreo commissions you later pull apart.

It's not as simple as that, but perseverance should be helpful. However, I fully agree on the bolded part.

I don't know how the Sambo-70 and Jubileyniy (Mishin's home rink) fees relate to each other or how their budgets relate. Presuming Khrustalniy department of Sambo-70 is the most expensive rink in the country, it's collective efforts, completely modern up to date training regime, 4 fully qualified, interchangeable trainers, Zheleznyakov, this classical ballet teacher (whose name I cannot remember right now) and probably expert medical staff also, have produced and continue to produce the best skaters in quite large numbers. So IMO a good return on investment. Sambo-70 hasn't been built in one day, it took many years to reach this level of excellence.

It is not magic, the Tutberidze Effect, it can be applied to any rink when you really commit yourself and your staff to it. Sankt Peterburg needs new elan, new people with fresh ideas, unbridled ambitions, and this perpetual drive to excel in perfection.

It seems they're more comfortable hiding some of her artistic shortcomings in tango programs. They are easier to "act." I personally don't get it, considering she did well with the exhibition last season. It feels like there's a lack of adventure and imagination.

When I listen to it, Drumming Song is pretty fast also. Maybe the choreography at that cadence was just too much. I'm interested in seeing how much of Shae-Lynn's work will actually make it to competition.

Uhm, it's free for the students (of the Sambo-70 "Sports School of Olympic Reserve"), as all Sambo-70 sport facilities are. Or do you mean something else?

this classical ballet teacher (whose name I cannot remember right now)
It's Lyudmila Shalashova, Daniil's mum.

and probably expert medical staff also
They have 3 med specialists there, afaik.

4 fully qualified, interchangeable trainers

They had 15 coaches there in 2018; don't think the number has changed downwards, opposite maybe.
