2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Luckily tech caller semi-woke up today and gave some URs... some.
Flutzes got ignored yet again, but somehow mythical lips appeared. Oh my, this judging was kinda hilarious.
Nastia was robbed of silver.

Imho, she was lucky to get that bronze for skating on top of music and her only expression being ticking the boxes on elements. Sure she is talented and does the elements well (but I just can't with the leg kicks for sake of transition marks)... but... it felt more like doing elements while music was playing than doing a program.

Wow Kamila and Alysa both relieving 138 in the free. I never thought they would be this close to one another and so far above the rest (as of now). Quite the rivalry we will see I hope! Both outstanding but so different, I am excited to see them judged by the same panel!

How many years are they going to be in juniors? 2? They are going to be so bored after 1 Junior season let alone 2. ;)

I don't know, i'd argue her PCS was very reputation (i didn't like the program at all).

But i'd say the judges were picky on silly things (like the leg high enough for the difficult entrance into the layback) and too lenient on other arguarbly more important aspects.

She wasn't robbed. Yeonjeong was simply better both in the Short and the Free.

you're gonna tell me other girls were delivering magic on the performance department? with facial expressions? PUH-LEASE.
Oh, Nastia wasn't performing that well, but no one really was if we're honest. However, Nastia has the skills she's not being rewarded for.
and I was talking about the TES for the record, which again, was problematic with the calls just like yesterday.

Nastya robbed herself of that silver by not skating cleanly. No one else robbed her of anything. She was lucky to get that bronze at all, it could easily have gone otherwise and would totally have been justified that way. I‘m happy she did well in the FS by landing her jumps but let‘s not pretend she somehow had that great of a performance artistically because she didn’t. Her fire and energy was missing, she was trying to get all the jumps and she did. But other than that? Not much there in neither of the two programs.

This is not a 3Lze+3T<< Just because you claimed that yesterday and I was rewatching it. . ;)

LOL, great video, what should it prove exactly? there's no "analysis" in there, it's just a replay.
she starts picking for the toe, when her blade is parallel to the boards and then lands again parallel to the boards, but in the opposite direction.

Yeah I would say that call was pretty consistent with how much benefit of doubt this panel was giving the skaters throughout the event. I think Shin Amano would have called that <. They weren’t being Shin Amano harsh.

They were right about the edge, I think the panel was a bit lazy on those calls in the short. Fair or not we’re seeing this and unbelievably lenient < calls more often now. *ahem ahem....worlds...cough cough*

It turned out not to matter in the end.

I would say more than your pictures did yesterday to “prove that flutz“ where her blade wasn‘t even on the ice anymore. It wasn‘t intended to be an analysis anyway, it was just a replay of her combo showing her edge and landing. And neither of the things you called out, change of edge and downgrade, were present. (Edit: They should have called it URed, I admitted that yesterday already. But not <<)That‘s all. :)

I would call it 3T<, but I had to watch the third replay from a specific angel to call it. So since the tech panel doesn’t get that I think it’s “fine” that it went uncalled.

Is it just me that is getting creeped out by all of the sneaky photos that @team.kamilavalieva keeps on posting from Kamila? Talk about invading the privacy being taken to the next level. I don't think it's right, nor healthy.

They're just photos of her at the gala and competition, no? From different angles to make them look "sneaky" but I don't think there's anything wrong with them, it's kind of similar to the teamzagitova account. And at competition there is always fan footage of the skaters warming up, talking to other skaters, their reactions, etc. It'd be weird if it was from an out of competition/event setting, like if they followed her around on the street, but they look alright to me.

You call that a lutz, that fine :laugh2: we should agree to disagree then

The calls were lenient overall. By a strict caller this should certainly have got an UR but not a downgrade, again, that was my point.

As for the edge - I‘m not seeing a flutz. ! maybe but certainly not e. (And again, we have to remember from which angles they can replay this) They‘re getting lazy with that but this time I didn‘t see that big of a mistake other than some of the URs that were ignored for pretty much everyone. Anyway, this discussion should not be here because it‘s not about a Russian lady. I just wanted to bring this example because I‘m tired of some ... claims here. Well done to Nastya anyway. Let‘s hope she can get a second assignment and if not, clean up the choreography, change the jump layout in the SP and improve on the artistry and expression. She‘s still one of the most talented junior ladies at the moment, she just needs to deliver.

Your statement just proved my point. If the parents are out of touch with social media and smartphones then the federation's and coaches and trainers need to step in and advise the youngsters on what not to do. If the federation's need to hire counselors to deal with these social media issues then so be it.

A federation should not be controlling the skater's social media. They can intervene if something that a skater posts is endangering their integrity as a representative of the country. However, parents parent their children and no one else has the right to. If a sporting federation would come in and tell children what they can and cannot do, that would be waaay overstepping. That kind of censorship is a violation of their rights.

I'm disappointed in Nastya's team for her fp. It just doesn't suit her at all, she is a musical skater (watch her fp last year), but she's just skating through the music instead of to the music.

I love both Alysa and Nastya, but how Alysa got have a point better on skating skills than Nastya is beyond me. I get that they gave Alysa higher components because of the quad and all but... this particular comparison is silly. Nastya's speed and skating skills are just so much better (not to hate on Alysa).

I was actually pleasantly surprised that they didn‘t go higher with Alysa‘s PCS. There was a real difference in TES and PCS - as it should. I agree about the skating skills. Alysa seemed a bit faster today but she‘s still slow compared to Nastya and just not as good in the movements of the blades. But where she lost in skating skills today to Nastya she more than won in performance and interpretation. Nastya normally is a real performer but her programs this year somehow both don‘t show that. And it didn‘t help that she was very nervous in the Short and focused on fighting for all the jumps in the FS.

PCS are always going to be a bit... inaccurate. I think it was interesting, though, that Alysa and Kamila basically got the same FS scores. This speaks a lot to Kamila‘s quality because she had one difficult element less and a fall and a popped jump. And of course she had that fall in the SP as well. So, they‘re still pretty close in their scores. It will be so interesting to see them directly compete against each other.

Nastya getting only 0.03 points behind Maya might be tragic but we're forgetting that she also very nearly dodged a bullet with that score. If she was only 0.06 lower she would've been pushed into fourth place which means certainly no second JGP stage for her. It's not a great situation, but at least she medalled, she very nearly didn't.

I'm quite surprised her PCS was so bad. I know she had no expression in her face or body movement, but she's so quick and this is her third year on the JGP.

I would've given Anastasia 9.5s in skating skills. But then I also would've knocked her CO/PE/IN down many notches. Overall the PCS difference between Alysa and her today were visible and I think the scores were spot on
