2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

what a treat watching a youtube live stream with good video quality and ted commentating. the level of the russian ladies is absolutely incredible and breathtaking and there are so many skaters who could easily win worlds and so many more would could easily win nationals in any other country in the world.

In all this talk I think the person that was truly robbed today was Zhenya. She lost sooo many levels in her spins today and her GOE was just a mess tbh. A spin that was level 4 at rostelom cup us suddenly a level 2. what kinda bs? And then her PCs were the exact same as her international ones even though every girl was getting about 2 points higher than their usual international PCs.

Zhenya is struggling with boot issues and was clearly very uncomfortable. She hardly even jumped during her warm up, she did well considering the circumstances.

What happened to all the people swearing they would always love all of the 3A, support them equally and pretended they were the bestes of best friends etc. etc.? I knew this was going to happen but didn‘t expect it so soon. Especially since the competition‘s not even half over and the most important part is actually yet to be skated. I feel sorry for the girls. I knew the fan wars were going to happen but still...

That was always wishful thinking and a pipe dream. Buckle up. This is just a preview of the endless bickering that will ensue over the next two seasons.

I swear the drama int his thread must account for half of the forum's traffic.

That's a logical fallacy, though. That'd be like me saying none of your arguments can be taken seriously if you have an opinion about someone or something. Really? It makes no sense. What does what I think of Aliona as a PERSON have to do with my opinion of Aliona's scores? I'm capable of being objective regardless of what I think of someone personally.

Am I being unreasonable when I say Aliona deserved to be in first place and that had she scored 86, it would have been a deserved score? Is there some unreasonable remark in there that I am missing?

Talking about logical fallacies is a bit disingenuous when you used one of the most obvious ones in your first comment, an ad hominem attack on Alena.

Also, 86 would be the expected international score that Alena would get for this performance and thus would equate to no nationals scoring boost and therefore, would be unfair in comparison to other competitors here.

I have to say I disagree. Zhenya's spins have not been good for a while. I would say that she might have been overscored at Rostelecom. Everything seemed to be a bit of a struggle here, but that was probably due to her boot issues.

Well, the lost levels on her spins and step sequence are deserved... I don't understand why one would argue against this.

well for starters her flutz

If you really want to play that game...
well for starters, Anna's flutz

If you really want to call Aliona's lutz a flutz, Anna should be receiving attention calls left and right. Aliona's lutz is more outside than Anna's. In fact, Aliona's lutz is better than Anna's lutz in just about every way.

When you know someone, you have every right to have an opinion of that person. It was also not an ad hominem fallacy given the context. It was just my opinion, and it was only in one post. So what?

85 or 86 max internationally? Possibly. However, she has already received the international scoring boost that Anna and Sasha haven't yet. Anna and Sasha's scores have room to grow. Aliona's don't have as much. Anna also did not receive a big boost compared to her previous best. Aliona received nearly 5 points more than her world record, though, which is ridiculous. Aliona's scores were inflated way more than anyone else's.

Anna and Sasha deserve a fair chance to win the gold. By giving Aliona 90 and a way bigger boost than them, the judges are giving the impression that they want her to win. How do you think this makes Anna and Sasha feel?

WHY is everyone so obsessed that Alyona scored 4.41 points higher at nationals??? Apply Anna's score rise to Alyona and Alyona's score would already be 87.11. Now add in a better 3A here vs GPF and her score already approaches 88. At GPF, Alina received the highest PCS for being the World and Russian "#1". Now that she's not here, the judges have a new #1 to lavish, and that's Alyona. Don't act like you all don't know that's how figure skating works. Win more and your PCS and GOE will rise. Be the best in your country and it will rise.

Alyona's 4.41 score raise did not come out of thin air if you also look at how scores are given at this competition. You can only compare scores within the same competition, especially if it's nationals vs international. A good chunk of that 4.41 is from PCS, which Anna and Sasha also received. Another chunk goes to her 3A. Sprinkle in some nationals GOE goodies to other elements and you can easily add up to 4.41.

Don't comment on numerical scores if you don't look into the math. Your feelings don't translate to numbers.

They just go crazy because Alena's score is in the 80s. A score in the mid~high 80s is new for figure skating fans. If a skater had gotten a 75 at one event and then a 79 at another event with historically inflated scores, there would not be much talk. But because the score is of a new range, every additional point seems enormous.

Looking at the standings, I think it will be very exciting to see what happens behind the Top 5.

I think 6th place is up for grabs for 10 skaters. Even the Ksenia's have a chance with a good skate.
Can new girl Shulskaya surprise us again?
Can Guliakova hold on to 6th?
Can Konstantinova and Samodurova redeem themselves with a good result?

And will Medvedeva's boots hold for a free skate?

Have your popcorn ready :popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

They both feel themselves irrelevant.
May be for now, may be for always. Time to decide is not yet. They are too young...

It’s interesting that Sasha had to skate first in the short and last in the free: she begins and ends russian Nationals :)
All girls did well, and to be honest, we’re blessed to see this amazing trio compete, they’re all special and wonderful in their own regard.
A don’t forget a good 3A can give you an enormous GOE, just like quads in the free! :)
Good luck to all of them in the free!

At this point Daniil and Sergej’s full time job is carrying giant bears from one place to another.

Yes, and what do you think, why judges want her to win? She was chosen for favourite already before Russian Nationals.

In other news... how about Liza Tukt being in 4th?! What an inspiration! Too bad about the turn out on the 3Axel, but I'm still loving the Lutz

I'm still confused by Sofia Samodourva's GOEs for her non-jump elements. Her jumps are small (although they don't look horrible to me), but I see nothing lacking in her footwork or spins. What's the deal?!

I think somewhere around 86 or 87 would have been more acceptable for Aliona's performance. I'm basing that on what Zagitova manages to score with an SP with no 3A. My take on the scores is Sasha's SP is still underscored. Anna is just right.
