2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Before the rules changed, Chen actually did land six quads in a free skate, but it sure as hell wasn’t pretty. He’s only landed a 4Lo once. But yeah Chen is currently the only skater that could land six quads and not turn the skate into a complete disaster. As I believe there’s a big difference between landing all quads and competing with all quads, I don’t expect to see another six-quad free skate anytime soon.
So when did the rules allow two repeated quads? When did Chen land a 4Lo?
So far only Sasha has landed 4 different types of quads in ladies - 4T, 4S, 4F and 4Lz. Still no 4Lo.
She is the only one with 3 quad program, right? Anna had a step out, so her 4F does not count?

it's Alina decision, she needs to decide what does she want, to me it's clear that she doesn't want to 'just skate', she wants to have a real shot at winning and I really doubt she will leave Sambo, Alina Better than anybody knows that Sambo is a place where winners are created and you won't win anything with running away from Eteri. It's matter of how much does she want it, she said that she no longer wanted to work from 6AM to 9PM, Soon she will have to finally decide if she does want winning again bad enough that she is ready to work like she never won anything, if she decides to try it again, then there is no place better than Khrustalny for that and no coach better than Eteri and most likely that will stay that way for a foreseeable future.

It's pretty hard to explain somethig like this to those who just think that everything Eteri says or does is bad, either it would be one thing or the exact opposite. For them, leaving Alina to decide it means "she left her, she doesn't pay any attention, she can't provide her more personal attention". While if it was her decision, it would be like "she is forcing her, can't let her making a decision, doesn't provide her necessary freedom" and all this blah blah (many of this was actually stated on GS and on many other places through the course of Alina's career ).

So when did the rules allow two repeated quads? When did Chen land a 4Lo?

The rules changed in the 2018-2019 season. Just last year. In his six-quad free skate, Chen landed 2 4Fs (one in combination), two 4Ts, a 4Lz, and a 4S. Chen landed the 4Lo.....I think in the Olympic season. Late 2017, I think. It was after Hanyu’s 4Lo and before the Olympics. With the new rule change, now the only way a skater could do six quads is if they can land them all. Or 5 quads + 4A.

Edit: Off the top of my head, the only men that have landed a 4Lo in international competition are Hanyu, Uno, Chen, Krasnozhon, and.... I think Rizzo. I’m sure I’m missing a few, but it’s got to be less than 10.

Few men landed 4Lo. Last one was Sviridenko in RusNats.

Only one attempted 4Ax and two more demoed attempts. No publicly available landings encountered, only self-promoting rumors...

As far Alina—-kids grow up and become interested in other things. I’m not speaking for her in any way, but there’s a whole lot of opportunity for anyone. Not just a skater with her exposure and opportunity. It’s possible she wants to explore other options. It no secret that there are many younger girls waiting to replace her. And yes, she has been replaced at the top. But it’s her choice. Her life. She wanted a break. Respect that.

Just to highlight fact how FS crazy has Russia become... some data(2019 year) from sports.ru

Zagitova and Medvedeva are most freequently mentioned athletes, Alina has 447K mentions in Comments, Medvedeva comes second with 370K. Messi came third with 221K mentions.

Shocked yet?

We haven't even started yet

4th most mentioned is... guess who? Ronaldo? Lebron? nah, it's Eteri with 194K, Liza comes 5th with 181K, Sasha at 6th with 178K  You think it's only about Russian Athletes? Rika Kihira has more mentions than Neymar or Khabib Nurmagomedov

Anything remotely connected to Alina easily gets 1000+comments in a day (for example, Raf's interview got 1200+ ) event threads easily get more than 3K-5K

Long Story short, sports.ru FS fans are definitely capable of giving Hanyu fans decent fight

I'm not impressed with the Liza's quad, neither with the Sasha's trixel. I didn't see one or another yet.

Or we are all impressed with the Surya's quad, Cohen's quad, Shcherbakova's trixel etc.

Let b impressed with results, not attempts in practice.

I think people can be impressed with whatever they want to be impressed by.

Some people think it’s only impressive if a jump is landed at the Olympics or Worlds with zero pre-rotation and minimum x cm of height and distance. And everything else is dismissible.

Practice jumps can be impressive too - they don’t count for records but they show what a skater is capable of.

If a tree falls in a forest but no judge is around to give it -5s, that doesn’t change the fact that it still fell.

If you think about it, that is an astounding datum. To think that a figure skating COACH is more talked about than all those famous athletes in all those team and individual sports. :eeking:

But whose fault is that? Not EGs right?

Regardless of what Russian FS community thinks of Eteri... they owe her big time, and it's not only about medals she brings.

Eteri made Russian FS Yuge, it's bit hard to imagine just how huge FS has become in Russia, Alina announced Stoppage of her career from 1TV 9 hour news broadcast, 1TV is Russian BBC and 9 hour news is most popular and biggest news broadcast they have... it's like... Imagine if Nathan Chen told USA that he wouldn't compete for an year from CNN during the busiest hour for TV  I don't know if it ever happened in the USA,but I don't remember anything like this happening in Russia.

FS becoming this Big is work of many people, but if Anybody or Any team can claim credit for that it's Eteri and Team Tutberidze.

Usually the unprerotated quads have amazing height and distance - Hanyu, Chen, Boyang, Kolyada.
As for the prerotated quads, especially among women, they are more like baby quads - Trusova, Shcherbakova.

It's not any one's fault. It is just a surprising development, when you consider the whole range of sports and sports fandom.

Well, in football and ice hockey coaches are pretty big names and persons as well with a lot of media space. Thanks to Eteri this was just extended to figure skating as well

all true and it's very yuge as you spell it. Where would Russian figure skating be without Eteri? Where were there ladies discipline be? Those are scary thoughts.

True.

But Eteri is very unique looking where her dominant personality and sort of intimidating persona so she covers different aspects of being attractive and aggressive and powerful. Some people don't know what to make of that. Maybe it's the cheekbones. ;) she has real power and prestige now. It will be interesting to see how long she can keep 3A together as well as Kamila.

A bland unemotional expression. The three girls pictured with her have their work to do, regardless.

The camera as Evgenia’s withdrawal from nationals was announced in the arena.
From what I know people knew about Zhenyas withdrawal well before it was announced in the arena. Her former teammates and former coach were focused on going out for warm-ups.

To me this was a very overrated incident. From what I saw Sasha was the only one smiling and I seriously doubt she was smiling for joy at evgenias withdrawal which she probably already knew. . Once Eteri so she was on camera and she turned away in the distain or the camera person for focusing on her after the announcement was made of her former pupils withdrawal. Maybe the camera person should remember who Zhenyas coach is and try to find him on camera.

No matter what anyone feels about this woman a most medvedeva fans can't stand her if this was sent to a fair court of law EG would be found not guilty. I rest my case. ;)

Now on to more important things. When will Evgenias next competitive event be? Test skates in September of 2020? Why didn't she compete in the cup of Russia series? The Cup Final will come up and six or seven weeks and she won't be in it. It was the last event she won if I recall correctly.
