She also trashed Tarasova in the 90s telling all the truth about the politics in Ice Dance and how that influenced Grishuk/Platov's success, then over the years she became a friend of her. So just because she criticized Tutberidze doesn't mean she has a personal hate.
Judging from an outside perspective, Vait might be wrong on many things, but RusFed's approach into this isn't right either. Right now in Russia you're either:
- Pro Eteri = pro the sysyem
- Anti-Eteri = your job as journalist won't last long.
This is very Soviet thinking, only positive comments, criticism is shutted down. That's bad too, Eteri is not like some god of figure skating, she made mistakes too, for one success, we don't know everything that is behind the scenes. (which is true for any coaches, not just her) You should instead accept the negative feedbacks, cause there might be some truth behind, you can always use to improve.
I don't always like Vait's approach but one thing i've always noticed is that she is very open: if she doesn't like something, she tells it. Not all journalists do this.
She clearly said that she's not interested on being a fan of certain skaters, like some fan do following athletes as their idols, but rather being a fan of the sport in general.
I mean, I do believe Vaitsekhovskaya was actually tying to be a legitimate journalist, but she completely lost the plot when it came to Eteri.
She accused her of “pushing” Adelina out of the Team Event (where it made like 0 sense for Eteri to do that), and Eteri confronted her on that publicly, so Vaits had to apologize, and it became a personal thing to her at that point.
I mean look at it: she trashed Yulia day in, day out, right until the point where Yulia leaves. 1 month training with Urmanov, Vaits goes “Yulia is so mature now, you can see it, Yulia is so great”... okay, 1 time she could get a pass, that it’s just her opinion, nothing wrong with thinking there’s a drastic change.
Then she proceeds to being very mean to Evgenia, to the point where Tarasova complained about Vaitsekhovskaya’s unfair criticism on live tv. And then, as soon as Evgenia leaves, she invites her to an interview, suddenly her attitude completely changes.
Then she went on to be mean to Alina. How can we forget her comments about worlds 19 “Alina was limping towards the finish line like a plane with only one wing functioning”... simply incredible.
Now it’s Aliona’s turn, Aliona’s character is so bad, bla bla bla.
I mean, I would buy her criticism to a degree, but at this point she demonstrated a pattern. If she wants to get at Eteri, she should try to attack her directly, not involve these teens into it with her never ending bashing and hate.
I’m all for free speech, but some things just aren’t right. If people tell me she got fired unfairly, I’d probably question that really hard.
R sport is a respectable news outlet, they are into professional, non clickbait delivery of the material, they’re not some cheap sports website, but part of a big network, I honestly think they’ve just had enough of her scandalous manner of journalism. It’s not what they’re about.
She can get a job at some yellow page breitbart type news outlet if she wants to, that seems more fitting to her style of journalism in recent few years. But spinning it into her being a political victim? puh-leaaase.
