2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

So only 3 quads for trusova instead of 5? Why??

Well, in my opinion Sasha doesn’t need to jump five quads to win. She can get by with three and a triple axel. I think that for now, she is done trying to chase the records and is focusing on becoming consistent and trying to win. By reducing the number of quads, her team is probably hoping to increase the quality of her elements and try to get higher GOEs. That’s my guess.

These are assumptions you made based on one short insta video. Stop spreading negative vibes here.

Members of the Russian team have posted about that; doesn't have anything to do with that video posted by the guy from UK team. It's not "negative vibes", it's facts.

Please stay on topic for this thread, the Russian Ladies’ 2019-2020 season.

General comments about the venues and the hotels for the European Championships are off topic. Comments relating to various countries’ preparation for Championships are off topic. Comments relating to previous European Championship venues are off topic.

Comments relating to the practices and competitions for Europeans may be conducted in the Competition Chat forums during the competition, and in this thread or the “Recap” threads after the competition.

Thank you!

It must be an unfortunate defect. But posters here are impling that austria is a underdeveloped country which it is obviously not.

I understand that posters imply that this is a terribly organized event. Not having hot water in the hotel is a complete disrespect to the teams....

....Austria is a beautiful country not only with a jewel of Wien but with amazing nature all around. During my multiple visits there I never experienced anything that can be named as "underdevelopment". The more strange and lamentable is the organizers' impotence. ISU should learn the lessons and setting politics aside grant the events to those who can organize them.

Once again I am worried about 3A who are about to perform on the limit of physical abilities. Not having basic necessities will not help it.

Is she doing the 3A in the free? Anyone know her free skate layout?

Spartans wouldn't care, and Tutberidze's Terrific Trio are stronger, tougher and more motivated than Spartans. Still, girls being girls, and athletes, a hot bath will soothe sore muscles.

It would have been better obviously if the big heads of ISU in their luxurious 5 star hotels were left without basic amenities like hot running water. Let's hope the athletes' hotel gets its boilers back in working order and refunds the athletes for lack of promised (and paid for) comfort.

According to the few SE training snippets I've managed to read at work and on the train home, Aleksandra seemed to have a clean workout today, while Alyona and Anna had falls.

I think in the free program that she is doing 4 lutz, 4 toe-triple toe, and a backloaded 4 toe-euler-3 sal. In the short program her planned content says she is attempting a triple axel, but that may change depending on how early she skates/ how other girls do.

I think if she doesn't have the 3A in the short, she does need more quads, because the judges have marked Anna higher in PCS all season, and they'll both have similar BV. But hopefully Sasha's PCS will go up with less quads. Its anyone's game

Aleksandra skates penultimate in tomorrows final flight of short program competition. Anna is first out, Alyona second. Both know how to deal with pressure. Will Aleksandra keep her cool? She mustn't loose more than 10 points, preferably with a landed triksel with positive GOE.

Hmm I hope she is fine. Bit strange to see a watered down(for her standard) content from her. Maybe she grew a bit or so

i think she is aiming for a cleaner skate this time. i'm sure she is fine and there is nothing to worry about.

Aleksandra already in Nationals seemed to go for quality skating and high GOE's in her short program. Big question of course, will she compete her triksel to stay in range with Alyona?

I’m sorry, but why some are so insistent on defending the pride and glory of Austrian hotels or organizers instead of thinking about athletes, actual humans.
Those are not assumptions, Denis Khodykin, an athlete literally said no athletes could shower, there’s no hot water, it’s his words. He said it's HORRIBLE.

It must feel horrible not to be able to shower after so much physical exercise, especially because it can help to relax their muscles, and can have an effect on their subsequent performances. And it’s winter, for the record. In Austria. Something tells me hot water is more of something essential right now.
Why’s everyone suddenly so defensive about a damn hotel?!

Besides, the organizers of EU champs have just apologized to athletes and coaches for providing a hotel without any hot water. Period. They owned up to it, but this problem is kind of ridiculous to have in the first place

Aside from that fact, Averbukh, bless his soul, has posted how commentators go to their spots... and it looks like a construction site. Those are some emergency exit metallic steep stairs, with too much open space.

in his comments he said that the building looks like a shed.

I FOUND IT! I was so intrigued by the infamous potato field that I had to go looking. It‘s not exactly close to the rink, though but I can see why the Russian guys stumbled across it. It‘s on the way to the airport.

Not to be a U.S.A. snob or anything, and I am sure that Austrian potatoes are of excellent quality -- but I feel compelled to mention that Austria is NOT the "Potato Capital of the World." That honor goes to Blackfoot, Idaho (Google it ;) )

This town is named for the Blackfoot Indians and became the capital of Idaho's famed potato district (Bingham County) when some anti-Mormon politicians bribed the state legislature to take the honor away from the town of Eagle Rock.

Here are a couple of junior skaters practicing their Russian split jumps (in costume) at the Idaho Potato Museum.

True.

I really liked her SP at runnat

For those wondering, here is the link posted in Sasha’s fan fest by GINO, I really like her new program layout. It is starting to look like a more balanced program in terms of choreography and jumps. You can also tell that her arm movements are softer now than they were before.

Wow, I saw some real improvements in her expression there! That was actually so beautiful to watch. I am a huge fan of Sasha's and never thought she was as far behind the others in PCS as other people here say, I find her to be very into her routines they are just a different style than what others do. But watching that run through, it really seems she has the time to hold her movements and make them her own without the quad setups, so I'm curious as to what others think. I feel as though she is heading in the right direction, best of luck Sasha!

So if Trusova's only going for 3 quads, and they're Lutz, Toe and Toe, that now means Shcherbakova has the highest planned BV of the 3, correct?

Gloves, long sleeved sweater, no bare arms and shoulders, it must be cold in that training rink.

We cannot be sure wether this will be the actual competitive FP content. But Aleksandra is already the tallest of the Amazingly Awesome Aces, and the most muscular, so probably the heaviest as well. Perhaps going for less quads is already necessary? And might even benefit her in the end if she can improve on her levels and GOE, to have a more sustainable free skating program? But indeed, Anna's quads are more valuable (if not called), so Aleksandra still has to skate squeaky clean to keep Alyona and Anna off ...
