2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I'd even say if you look back at Ksenia Sinitsyna's previous seasons, she was even more inconsistent (especially in the free) in the past. Most of that comes from the lutz-loop combo she ditched.

As for Maiia it would be interesting to know how much skipping half of the summer training for injuries influenced the performances at JGP.

Some of her previous mistakes to me looked like nerves issues which made her rushing some take-off or going off-axis in the air (especially in the second half of her free), but she has always had a very good jumping technique just like Valieva and Usacheva, i'd say better than the new ones Petrosian, Akatieva or even Zhilina even though maybe not as efficient.

You can read a lot on coaches body language in the warmup before Khromykh's free.

The best options for JW based on what they achieved in the season and Sinitsyna turning to seniors next season, to me should be: Valieva, Usacheva and Sinitsyna. But i can see RusFed just choosing based on Nationals results and going with Khromykh, it wouldn't be the first time.

Dar'ya Usachyova in her interview with Olga Yermolina she had it difficult finding motivation last year. Could it be 'minor medal' or even 'off the podium' syndrome? Sort of having this feeling of unfulfillment, inadequacy, when you are a perfectionist?

I'm sorry, when did Dasha say that? If you are talking about this interview then you are misinforming people who don't speak Russian. Expression "морально сложно" it has the widest interpretation in russian language. It can be about internal uncertainty and self-doubt or just "I fell in love with a boy and all my thoughts are occupied only with him". Probably the most successful translation this expression is "mentally challenging"

- Preparation [for this championship] was difficult, but I am glad that in the end I managed more or less. And I just want to work hard to prepare to JWCh and show decent skating there.
- Why preparation was difficult? Were you sick or something else?
- No (Dasha smiles shyly), just it was mentally challenging for me and... there were some reasons for this (Dasha again smiles shyly, Kamila smiles in sync with her)

Where did you find it here "it difficult finding motivation last year" - is a mystery to me :scratch2:

Ratings have been updated and Sasha Trusova does not get into the last group at the world championship (she will be the seventh highest rated among all those present). Question: are there any other competitions where you can get a rating? In what competitions can you get a rating, only on challengers?

She could’ve gone to an international event (non challenger) like the Bavarian Open this weekend. Winners of non challenger internationals get 250 points.

It is very funny that the third best skater on the circuit has to skate with girls who would beat them without needing a short program, because with their free program it is enough 170 - 180

This is why the classification has to be based on the achievements of the current season not 5 years ago...

Well, the group will likely be
Sasha
Mariah
Young You
Yelim
Alexia
Ryabova

Unless someone else does a senior B and knocks someone out. 4 of these skaters have scored 200+ and the others I believe 190+. Young in particular is a podium threat based on her scores from 4CC (which I don’t agree with but that’s another story). Mariah can also put up a total score around 215 so these are not 2nd rate competitors. Obviously if Sasha skates clean she is out of reach for nearly everyone (depending on her layout) but these are not mediocre skaters that will be in this warmup. Yes, I agree that the ranking system isn’t exactly fair and based on performances from this season, Sasha and Young should be in the final flight and Satoko and Wakaba should be in the penultimate flight, but I don’t think it will hurt them too much. It’s not like Sasha is in the 1st warmup.

I don't think that this is necessarily a big disadvantage for Alexandra.. The reason you don't want to be in the earlier groups is that your performance might be overlooked. With Alexandra, the judges are going to be paying close attention whenever she skates.

The danger of "holding skaters down to save room for later skaters to get even higher scores" -- I think that is less important in this case. If she skates well, the temptation will be, if anything, to give her competitive marks in anticipation of an exciting showdown or come-from-behind finish in the LP.

In other news, when do the string of younger age/elder age competitions start? I'm so ready to see the novices again! Especially with the even younger ones competing as well (Zhilina and Kulikova are two I look forward to watching).

It's not ideal for Sasha but I don't think this is a big deal either.
Last year Rika went to Challenge Cup just to get into the last SP group at Worlds and remember how that worked out for her...

Maybe Sasha can cash in on her "underdog" status by skating in the penultimate group without the pressure of the big scores in the last group. Maybe she can even succeed with her 3A.
(Although Young has scored higher in the SP than her before, so there will be a tough competitor in that group as well.)

March 10-15 has the Russian Cup in 10-15 year olds, held in Perm, which will probably get coverage.
March 16-21 has the Finals of the 10th Winter Spartakiad, held in Krasnoyarsk, perhaps we will get coverage from the Platinum Arena?
after that, the season is slowly winding down towards the May holiday break.
There are still a huge lot of events listed with all kinds of levels, for the Junior Nationals skaters you need to look for KMC and MC categories. Zhilina, Kulikova, etc are in 1C or 2C.
Check https://fsrussia.ru/calendar.html and
http://ffkm.ru/competitions/current and

and of course keep following the relevant threads where announcements will be made.

I always thought that only pertained to the 6.0 days when they literally DID have to save room for the later skaters.
If she does a 3A in her SP this time, she should be just fine. If not, she will be at the same disadvantage as GPF and Russian Nationals.

That's after the junior worlds, which is good. :)

Studio-38 has complete coverage of "Peter the Great" Cup from Sankt Peterburg planned, February 10-13. You might get to see some of the Winged Blades skaters competing there.
Then there is "Mishin Cup", March 2-8, according to their calendar: http://fskating.spb.ru/calendar , which Studio-38 will most likely also cover.

On a side note, it seems there have been some troubles between the various entrepreneurs that bring us those Youtube live streams from the smaller competitions all over Russia. So complete coverage of events isn't a guarantee. Also, the internet at many a rink is poor so they often have to transmit on WIFI or even GSM data plans, resulting in drop outs and low bitrate and poor picture.

Sof'ya Samodelkina: “ My marks may have been low, but this is due to the selection for the World Championships ”

Russian figure skater Sof'ya Samodelkina in an interview with SE spoke about her marks at the Russian Championship among juniors. The CSKA representative became fourth, losing to three figure skaters from "Khrustalniy".

- My Axels were not very clean, everything was fine during training, and during the warmups they were a bit so-so. Therefore, it was not easy in my skating run. Fighting “Khrustalniy” with two triple Axels is already difficult, because they jump two quadruples and beat me automatically in base value.

Soon a new competition, in 10 days the final of the Cup of Russia, then the senior Championship of Moscow. Tired a little bit, of course. Now I am saving up money to go with my mom, dad and sister to Egypt.

-- You threw toys to your rivals after their skating runs. Is this a tradition?

- Yes, I threw some to Kamila Valiyeva and Kseniya Sinitsyna. Kamila skates very beautifully, I really like her, I take her for my example. She has these spins, for example, which you can admire. Lisa Berestovskaya also threw to support them, we are still from the same group after all.

-- Are you satisfied with your marks? There is no feeling that they were somewhat reduced, could have been higher than they were?

- I am pleased with my marks. Maybe there was something like that with my marks, but this is perhaps because I do not go to the World Championships, I am not yet 13 years old.

Really nice and kind girl, hope she stays like this and keeps both her rink mates and rivals as acquaintances and perhaps even friends.

FFKR Need to petition the international skating Union for six spots in ladies and girls juniors. Whilst all the other disciplines stay the same, of course.. Meaning three spots.

Even though Dasha is my favorite junior, when everybody mentions that Kseniia failed to get to the podium at JGPF, I kind of feel like she should've. Like if Dasha was clean, I'd accept the reality, but Dasha fell back into her second-half mistake habit then. Kseniia and Haein were both very clean, and both could've been up there instead. So, Kseniia didn't bomb at JGPF, she was just crazy underscored.

Agreed, never understood why Kseniia and Haein weren't scored higher at JGPF

Sasha may really want to work on getting the lutz-loop back in the short program.

It won't make a difference. 3Lz-3Lo over 3Lz-3T in SP has very little advantage, plus it's easier to get more GOE on Lz-T than Lz-Lo. And a lot less risky. Sasha has scored the same with both combos, no?

If she's going to go for the 3A (and I'm assuming she will), I would say it's worth it to get it back in the SP as good as it was before because going into the FS not in the final group would be a real liability.

How would it help? If the 3Lz-3T doesn't get her into the final group, the 3Lz-3Lo definitely won't. There's only 0.7 point difference, and most often the skaters who can do both combos (Alina, Sasha, Anna) lose that in GOE anyway compared to when they do -3T. I think Sasha also averages higher in GOE for her -3T combo, so she actually scores higher.

Having a -3Lo combo is only really useful in the FS because of the layout it allows.
