2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I think everyone has different opinions about technique and all that lovely figure skating technical stuff. However this is not the thread for that conversation. I wish Trusova all the best and I think she will do brilliantly with her new team. I’m sure the team will have some great results next season. I am however happy with where Evgenia is currently training and would not wish for her to move coaches.

It was not me the one who moved the discussion to technique. I just said that it might be a better place for Medvedeva to achieve her goals. And it's the perfect place which called the Russian ladies thread to address that :confused2:

I must have misunderstood, my mistake. Again, I appreciate you sharing your opinion on the coaching situation and I wish the team great success.

Do you have opposite opinion to the fact that those two skaters jump more than 60cm in height? For me it's obvious that everyone has an opinion I don't know why even to mentioned that. After all you know what they say about opinions...

What I wanted to say is that she didn't achieved any results so far,it might be a good timing to move to other coach now. Since the duo of Plushenko/Rozanov and the other members of the team looks promising.

Evgenia is a grown woman. She's been competing internationally for like 8 years and has had multiple serious injuries. She's also a head taller than Kamila and Sasha (well, maybe not anymore, but when Sasha learned her quads). Are you really asking why Zhenya would, perhaps, need a different technique or strategy or training style than them?

Zhenya did get third at the world championships last season, I wouldn’t call that “no results”. Also, I don’t know if Plushenko and Rozanov would accept her because she would be a direct competitor against Sasha.

The last time she's been in GPF it was with Eteri, the last time she medal at RN it was with Eteri, the last time she won gold at any stage was with Eteri. She was lucky that someone got sick last year to get picked for the team. Plus at that worlds she lost silver from a skater which never won anything significant. I can get she is more happy where she is now, but I wouldn't say the results are great.

Plushenko can help Rozanov with that. I don't think you can find many with his longevity and he learned quads and 3A from Mishin who is known for his right approach to that. He might transfer that to Medvedeva. We saw Liza did a quad. Actually Michin can be a good candidate too.

This thread is always consistent in trying to rip Evgenia to shreds. Imagine the commitment. :clapper: There goes any hope that two years would be enough for people to stop irrationally hating her and trying to ignore her achievements. Lest we forget she was once team Russia’s everything.

I'm not opposed to any of this (well, I'm not a fan of Mishin but that's entirely unlikely). As a fan, I'm also absolutely content with where Zhenya is now. I just think there's no one size fits all solution to any skater. We don't even know how this training situation will work out for Sasha and others there, much less hypothetically how it could potentially 'help' Zhenya. Who knows, though.

That's understandable

I continue to train in the group of Eteri Georgievna. Thanks to my coaches for their work.

Good news, if that's Adeliya's true profile. Not just because of the information, but I wouldn't like to see the situation when fake accounts or hacked profiles rule the world.

Thank you. In my opinion, it still does not make sense (to have chronic back injury (as you noted) and train a quad and 3A). But that does not matter if Lilibet herself is satisfied with her coaches and how her career has turned out.

Tell that to ice hockey players, they suffer from various injuries through all their career. Incl. our glorious Jaromír Jágr, who had troubles with his groins as far as I can remember :)

Valieva has the best quad at the moment no much pre-rotation, right take off nice landing and last time I checked she jumps with legs no arms or body. So why Medvedeva cannot learn such quad? Both Trusova and Valieva achieve more than 55-60 cm in height in their jumps. Do you think that they achieve that height with their arms and body? The speed in rotation ok, yes. But the height is in it with the legs and training. Medvedeva can benefit from that training with Rozanov. In her current team we don't see much result so far anyway, I don't see the risk.

You don’t seem to know what is “jumping with arms” and “jumping with legs”.

One sentence from Plyushchenko's interview struck me on re-reading: " Сейчас я сам с ней общаюсь дистанционно, делимся мыслями по программам, по творчеству, по сборам - решаем, куда поедем, каких хореографов привлекать. "

сбор can mean both 'fee' and 'gathering/collecting' as in training camp. What would be the meaning in this context, both are equally applicable?

FFKKR could and should demand a transfer fee, which is exactly what Plyushchenko has in mind with his plan to revolutionise figure skating, making it commercial, with teams, leagues and transfer sums.

What kind of price would FFKKR put on the head of Trusova? After all, she is a ready made athlete with clear Olympic prospect (here and now) that state, parents and Sambo-70 have invested $$$ in. 100K, 200K, 500K, 1M? Taking all spendings over the raising and training of Aleksandra, lost future cuts on price money, sponsorships and endorsements into account?

You know i think that's a point that is hard to understand now, but i feel Plushenko has a good vision on that. This goes back to previous discussions on the lack of figure skating icons in ladies that can last for years.

If they manage to make this work, Plushenko, Zakarian & co could really make Trusova the new quad queen, a star quality and status similar to what Plushenko had or Yuna Kim, with shows made for her, commercials, movies,... and the FFKKR would gladly accept cause that means a lot more money than 1-2 excellent seasons but then retire and leave space for the upcoming junior, and most importantly it means a ton more coverage for Figure Skating and for Russia.

I think in Toronto they are trying to do something similar with Medvedeva but she lacks that champion reputation now.

BTW i don't think her Olympic spot was guaranteed now, without a big change. She is 3rd now, potentially 4th or even 5th by the time Valieva and Usacheva are age eligible.

I think I know. But we can have a conversion on that if you want. I will not say that I think you don't know because I don't know you and your knowledge on the subject.

Which brings me back to one of my earlier postings on the transfer where i a said 'Mr Trusov, what are you doing', but he perhaps has it all worked out already ;-)

I too think Aleksandra can be great in future commercial ice shows, she has all the goods.

PS: prospect is just that, one of many contenders for the three spots ;-)

I can get she is more happy where she is now, but I wouldn't say the results are great.

The last time she‘s qualified for the GPF she withdrew due to serious injury. And the last time we‘ve seen her compete with Eteri she was dragging her injured body through the jumps and left the ice, sobbing. Then, she had to take months off to heal her foot and back. And yet, she will never be able to do a biellmann spin again.

She lost the Worlds Silver last season to Tursynbaeva but where is she now? Missed the whole season due to a - surprise, surprise - very serious back injury. Where are Lil‘Bet‘s results this season? I‘d take a skater who doesn‘t win a whole lot over someone who‘s too injured to even compete. If Tursynbaeva is happy with her coaches - good for her. But I think it‘s obvious that there‘s more to the story than: “Eteri took on a mediocre skater and made her into the Vice World Champion.“ Because in its essence, this is the truth. But only as long as you ignore at what cost this might have been achieved.

Comparing the results Evgenia had with Eteri to those she has with Brian is a simple logical fallacy. Because the competition back then was simply different. Skating has changed a lot. Staying with Eteri wouldn‘t have magically provided Evgenia with golds. She would have fallen behind the new generation just as inevitably.

After all, Alina stayed with Eteri, she didn‘t win Gold this season - when the new seniors arrived - either, did she? It‘s not because she‘s not a great skater, it‘s because she doesn‘t have a quad or a 3A. And neither her - nor Evgenia - is 15 anymore, so learning one will take more time and involve more risks.

Evgenia hasn‘t landed a quad yet. No one knows if she ever will. But she‘s surrounded by a team of specialists. Some of them - like Ghislain - are sought after by many skaters because of their brilliance at teaching jumping technique. If Evgenia hasn‘t landed a quad yet, it‘s not because she‘s not trying or because her coaches are somehow too incompetent to help her. It‘s because it might be harder to learn a quad at a certain age, with an adult body, when you‘ve not trained ultra-c elements for your entire career. (like Liza has, for example)

If Evgenia doesn‘t have the results she used to have, it’s not because she‘s become a weaker skater or because she‘s not improving. It‘s because the competition has changed as have the requirements to stay competitive.

She was competing in a different era. Let’s not forget - she’s a generation before Alina. She‘s playing a catch-up game. Whether she will succeed? Who knows. But her coaches certainly aren‘t the problem.

Now, if she were to change to Plushenko and Rozanov, I would support her, of course. It is her life and she has every right to make her own decisions (as has Sasha btw) But I just don‘t see any need for it at this moment.

" Dear subscribers and all our friends, I want to inform you that my husband and I were hospitalised, confirmed to be with Covid19. Because the virus was detected almost at the first symptoms, measures were taken in time to not put our relatives at additional risk. I’m on the mend, the temperature is gone, the cough, too, I didn't even need antibiotics. They say that women carry this virus more easily, apparently, this seems so.
Of the lingering symptoms - I cannot smell at all. My husband’s situation is a bit more complicated, but everything is going well under the control of our valiant professional doctors!
Thank you very much for the kind words and wishes for recovery, which are now very much appreciated!
Don’t worry, we will definitely recover and will live on (I really hope now with antibodies)

Here's what I still want to draw your attention to: The main thing is not to panic, but be sure to listen to your body, everyone may have individual symptoms, for example, my temperature immediately jumped high, in my husband it took a few days. Take care of yourself and be healthy! "
