I disagree. Find an international competition with 8 skaters warming up on the ice and you see it is already crowded. Then add in a bunch of 10 year olds who do not know yet how to identify patterns or who may not be as adept as others at dodging collisions and you've created a dangerous environment. There's no reason that we shouldn't respect Aliona's concerns, they are of course perfectly valid. Especially with things like her long 3A set up, or trying to skate fast and learn quads when we know that Aliona is a pattern jumper like Bradie and gets consistently by repeating an entrance over and over (which is definitely a contributing factor to why her lutz was shaky today also, that entrance change) Imagine trying to do that in a rink with 7 other girls skating who take up the whole rink, and then add in children, that is not a training environment that is an obstacle course.
I'd also add that we can see how easy it is to run out of space when she is so near Veronika in an AP instagram video of Veronika's 3A and there aren't even that many of them on the ice. There's also an extended interview that wasn't posted here so I'll link it below my comments. She states that when she was ten they skated with older girls but they were told to stick to the boards, and if they interfered or cut off the older girls they would be booted from training. So I don't think that the problems with skating with the younger kids were insignificant. She also discusses getting yelled and cursed at for not performing which would be considered an abusive coaching practice in the United States where I'm at. Of note, she said that when something is not working well in practice with Plushenko, they abandon it, work on something else, then return to it. Which definitely seems more suitable for Aliona who can get very anxious and frustrated when something does not turn out well. Previously she has stated that she doesn't perform well when she doesn't connect to an image or the music. So I can see her frustration in telling her coaches multiple times that the SP wasn't working for her. If she can move to a coach who allows her to be Aliona on ice, to express herself musically, to commit to a persona and image that will allow her to compete at her best, then why wouldn't we want her to pursue that?
To me there are no problems with her departure. She brought up her concerns with her coaching team multiple times, and not unreasonable concerns either. She doesn't obscure the way the situation unfolded to the press, she didn't fuel drama as it was occurring, and she gives thanks to TT. She also raised concerns with the general environment, and it seemed as though she also had worries for Kamila and Anna, so definitely no hard feelings there as was portrayed earlier. She decided the the environment at Sambo 70 was not suitable for her anymore and left. It makes total sense. In any other country this would be a non-story.
