But here I am led to wonder how much of the indisputable success at Krustalny is powered by the skills of the coaches versus the dreams and ambitions of very young athletes.
I would just ask the question whether the ambitions of the skaters in other (and less succesful) teams are the lesser ones? And if so, it is a coincidence that those with "the dreams and ambitions" found themselves precisely in this team? :)

Though, if you mention this:

I have seen the desperation in the eyes of some athletes seeking the affirmation and approval of coaches, only to receive an icy glare in return

I remember Aliona with Sergei in the K&C ;)

If you don't know who Evgheni is, then you have no right to talk about him! Throughout Europe and Asia, Evgheni had shows and was the headliner. Posters with him were posted everywhere. Tens of thousands of spectators came to see him. Sorry for OFFTOPIC

Two times I was to see him in Cluj, in your country. There was full house, of course. There were other stars but the people were euphoric when he was on the ice. Everybody felt it.

I also remember he was very kind and supportive towards Alena when she popped her axel at that JGP in 2018. I've always liked Dudakov, he seems like a great coach :)
I have only the highest respect for Dudakov both as a coach and as a man, I just can't help myself to not laugh when I see him there - oh, look, now he's going to hug her - oh boy, he's just fixing his coat

Of course, judging by fragments from the training is hardly objective, and doing as if there was no footage from Khrustalny where the athletes looked happy and relaxed is wrong.

Maybe because he gets too much too soon? Or that it's weird that he's suddenly getting all those stars while he created 0 stars so far (yeah Rozanov is there but still). Most of other coaches had to create successful skaters (make skaters win medals in big competitions) to see other stars go to them.
It appears that he's buying a reputation rather than building one.
You can't show any other coaches who was a greatest legend. Why are you wondering if he can build his school much more faster as anyone else? Evgeni Plushenko is a legend, plus he gives everything for the skaters. His school is very different from the others not the soviet type of school. His opponents know it.

I said that as a new fan of fs, I've never watched his programs and wasn't around to watch him compete as a skater.
You could say, because of this, my judgement of him is not influenced by my opinion of him as a skater, only as coach and everything he does in the present.

He's flush with cash and his connections to sponsors can get his skaters deals as well; it was remarked that Kostornaia announced her first sponsor initially the picture she posted his picture was obscured, she took down that picture and reposted with a clear picture of him dominating the picture - my impression that's indicative he was the driver behind that sponsor signing her. Plenty of other legendary skaters are coaches or coaches that are legends for their coaching ability. Plushenko's cash access is what separates him.

Well there's an old expression in the US - work smarter not harder. Love her or hate her, Eteri and her team has been the most successful in reading the rules and training her skaters to capitalize those rules and everyone else is still just copying what they do to be successful.
Yes. I agree with that. She was the best coach in last season.

Since the "he is - he is not" or "he has - he has not" discussion has been caught in an endless spiral for some time, it is time for a new trainer topic in the RLT. Has the question why the Tutberidze effect suddenly fizzles out as soon as the girls stop being children has already been discussed? 😍

Sorry, but you can't compare them to Plushenko's reputation, results, popularity. The debate is totally unnecessary in this matter. About that picture Plushenko doesn't care about such thing. That is not his idea because he doesn't like to deal with it. plus he has no time at all in these days. If anyone organized that composition that was Yana.

I think this topic would be interesting for specialists in child psychology. It is unlikely that most of the FS fans presented here are psychologists by their specialty. For some reason, FS attracts mainly lawyers;)

And for what it's worth, my favorite person in the sport today is Sergei Clause, the one who carries the giant sack stuffed with toys, the man whose micro-expression smile of satisfaction is the greatest thing ever seen in the K&C, you know him, you love him, you can always find him if you just follow the cigarette smoke, the one and only; three cheers for Dudakov! Dudakov! Dudakov!
The Dude!
Dudakov deserves more love! He's definitely the Cool Sergei

Macy, I'm not sure if your comment was prompted by the thread, or by my own "opinion column", but either would be entirely justified. Years ago in the States there was a legendary firefighter names Red Adair, who gained fame for pioneering the technique of extinguishing oil well fires with an explosion of dynamite that deprived the fire of its source of oxygen. I thought I might try the same technique to smother the AP/TT back and forth.

Here is another attempt to engage more entertaining commentary among all of us:

Name one of your favorite skating personalities, and tell us why you love them.

I have the greatest affection for Sofa Samodelkina, after seeing a couple of off-ice video clips. First, there was a Moscow Juniors tournament where she was filmed, in the shadows just off the boards, along with several of her fellow competitors, singing along with the music and swaying with the choreography of one of her main competitors performing on the ice. Then at Junior nationals, after her own performance, she appeared among the spectators in the arena, in order to cheer for, and throw plushies to her competitors. Charmed. 😢. (I'm not crying, you're crying.)
I have many but in the Russian ladies thread I will just mention my two favorite senior Russian ladies. Neither is my favorite "skater" but personality wise I find them charming.

Sasha Trusova is honestly a tiny feminist icon. She doesn't seem overly concerned about appearing overtly feminine. She wants to compete with the boys. She brings her aborable dog with her everywhere. She is confident. She is driven, and reminds me of a tiny superhero. I would like to have a daughter like her.

Medvedeva. She obviously loves skating. She is incredibly brave. Despite terrible things that some people have posted, she stays above the fights. She is always learning new things. New languages, new artistic forms. She is such a complicated and driven girl. I think everyone would like to be her friend.
