Good performances, but forget about Eteri Bonus....there is clearly a Kamila bonus also! I would be reeling at the PCS if I was Shcherbakova. Kamila matching her with 37.2 PCS in her first competition, and even higher than her Perfume SP at RusNats as defending Russian Champion + masterpiece program. Wow.

I wasn't going to post in this thread ever again, but I just can't with Sasha...

She skated beautifully, she put in a 3A because the rules won't let her jump her quads on SP.

And those judges and technical panel broke her heart.

How dare they. How dare they.

I don't care what you think of Plushy or Eteri, this is unconscionable.

I was having so much fun watching this competition, now all I can do weep for Sasha.

What a convenient system of corruption. Have a bonus system after having met a criteria but make sure that only the skaters that we want to win ever reach those criteria.

Don't worry. Those bonuses won't be there at Russian Nationals. It is just a special Russian Cup rule.

I think it's clear that fed bets big on Valieva. They even gave her an higher score than Shcherbakova.
They are closely watching Usacheva too. She will also be 15yo during olympic season. And something tells me that there is an ultra C in the making.

Daria is working on 3A (not surprisingly, her 2A is superb), but said recently it's not competition-ready yet.

well, guess what, no one is using "potential" to determine anything. The real scores are what was posted and will be used to determine the winner and the rest of the podium so people have to compare that instead.

I think the biggest lesson I learned today is that dress/costume plays an integral part in shaping a skater’s image/perception.

Despite Valieva having the worst costume IMO the dress she wore today worked well in reiterating her image as an etheral skater. The long dress just worked despite the ugly design.

Packaging is where I think Trusova’s camp failed her today. This tinkerbell dress doesnt do her any good especially with her image as juniorish skater. She needs a major repackaging work starting with her costume choices.

Yes, Daria is definitely in the race to make it to the Olympics.

So the way it looks now is that there are 5 candidates and two of them will be very disappointed.

Some things I noticed:

—the Russian federation has made a statement. They are backing Kamila and Anna S as their champions. The clear Russian federation favorites.
—they appear to have dumped Trusova
—Medvedeva may not stand a chance this season


The blatant over scoring of Kamila and Anna S might please the Russian fans, but a majority of skating fans really just want to see good skating and fair judging. Over scoring these skaters will just hurt their international reputations.
I hope for fair judging in the free skate

So, Sasha‘s total score potential with a 3A is only about 1 point higher than Kamila‘s who didn’t do a 3A? Sure, she‘s not the best artistically and her spins are weaker but honestly, her jumps have higher quality and she has improved leaps and bounds this season overall.

Let‘s just remember that Kostornaia, with a perfect SP and 3A, got 89 at RusNats last season. And the outrage here was HUGE.

Sorry, but this whole thing is a farce. Now they‘re not even pretending anymore. Sasha got an edge call on the flip, right? I wonder if Daria got one on her lutz...

I like all of these girls (and I love Kamila‘s SP especially) but this kind of completely biased judging takes away most of my excitement.

Of all the things to call out about the scores from today, it's not the bonus system...it's been here for a long time, and it's not a scandal that Sasha didn't get any today.

You get one bonus point for every spin that you get Level 4 and above +4 GOE in. Sasha has never been known for her spins; Daria and Kamila have excellent spins.

But Sasha will REALLY reap from the bonus system during the free. Because it gives two bonus points for every quad/3A landed. If Sasha goes clean tomorrow, that's six extra points just to her. (She would've had two today if the 3A had been clean, but she'll get it next time hopefully).

Yes, and imo that's the more constructive way of discussing it. Is a clean Sasha with a 3A only worth just one more point than Kamila?

I would say that Kamila beats Sasha on all her spins with at least 1 point each. So without that advantage Kamila would have been 4 points behind Sasha. Is that fair? Well, I guess that is what is up for debate.

And herein lies the precise problem. The judges are already scoring Kamila exactly like a perfect Aliona, except in terms of actual skating Kamila is only matching Aliona in SS and spins, is far inferior than Aliona in jump quality, and as far as I’m concerned is also slightly inferior in overall performance quality and artistry. There are very few skaters who can do every aspect of skating with the perfection deserving of +4/5 GOE in every element, and sorry but Kamila ain’t that skater. Her wonky ass combos with multiple edge changes and minimal height are getting better GOE than sasha and equaling Aliona. Just no.

And on the topic of bonus points, I’m happy for spins to be rewarded. A well executed spin is beautiful and exciting to me. The problem is that it’s a suuuuper easy system to game because just 1 judge has to give +3 instead of +4 to screw a skater over. Case in point, Sasha’s last spin could easily have qualified for the bonus. It’s the fastest biellman I’ve ever seen her do.

Apart from Sasha I actually think a lot of the other girls were also underscored here today looking at the protocols.

But she only does 2 quads, while sasha will probably go for 3 quads or even 4 ,but my guess is they are going for 3 tommorow
