Did anyone have Sasha removing the 4T from the free layout on their Rusnats bingo card?

From the Instagram videos of the runthrough, Sasha's layout is

4Lz+3T, 4Lz, 2A, 2A // 3Lz+3Lo, 3F+Eu+3S, 3Lz

She didn't get the 3Lo out from the first 3Lz in the run-through, so she put it on the last jump instead.

I wasn't expecting her to go safe here (if two rippon 4Lzs counts as safe lmao). It really is anyone's game at this point.
I don’t get this layout at all. I have a hard time believing she’s somehow lost her 4T when she’s also doing 2 rippon 4Lzs. And if the goal is to play it safe and skate clean, surely that’s much more likely with the 4T than the 4Lz...not to mention, the lz-lo combo is still inexplicably in the program. 🤦‍♀️
Edit: Nvm, I just realized she repeated 3 jumps with this layout, so one of those 2As must be a placeholder for a 4T.

I read that Sasha refused to jump toeloops and salchows due to an injury because the supporting leg was injured. That's why she only trains lutz.

Is this from CoR? =/ I'm not sure if we ever found out if she was really injured or not.

No, doubles count separately in the Zayak rule. You can repeat two doubles of the same kind outside of triples and quads. (Anna had this exact same layout at her two GPs last season.) Not to mention that Sasha hasn't been seen trying the 4T in official practice in the past two days.

Maybe her 4T just became less consistent than her 4Lz since we last saw her? Or maybe the injury rumours are true. Or maybe she just doesn't want to risk more than two quads so she went for the highest-scoring ones. I'm really hoping it's the last one.

Ah, that makes sense. Hope she is able to recover without delay. She really did look substantially worse at CoR, even in practice, then just a couple weeks earlier, coupled with the downscaled difficulty here makes injury the most likely scenario.

This layout is very interesting. Perhaps those rumours of injury are true. If she can't do 4T and 4S, knowing Sasha, I would expect her to go for a 4F as well? But we haven't seen that quad at all this season, maybe it is because she has been called ! on her 3Fs?

Well, this is a great moneymaking layout if she's clean. Anna had exactly this at SA and scored 160 points (had two URs on Salchow and Loop and only lev 2 in Steps = lost about 5.50 points).

But she needs to nail this. No room for any mistakes and absolutely no falls.

But will it be enough against Kamila? Probably not if K has a 10 point lead after the short.

"So, the Russian championship is officially not a selection for the world championship, but a motivational camp, according to the results of which the federation will decide for itself who deserves to go to the Worlds and who does not. Everything is in the hands of officials, not athletes. “It makes no sense to discuss this (selection criteria for the world championship) before the national championships,” said Alexander Kogan, general director of the FFKKR. When asked if the Russian championship would not be the only tournament in the selection system for the world championship, the president of the FFKKR Alexander Gorshkov replied: “I would not talk about it now, because we will see how events develop. We will have an executive committee (December 27 in Chelyabinsk), where we will consider various options. " “We have plans and not one tournament, but several, which pursue the goal of preserving the sports form of our skaters,” Kogan said.

FFKKR President Alexander Gorshkov: “For an athlete, motivation is important. It is overcoming oneself through pain, through terrible loads. And making yourself do it having some distant goal which might not happen, insteda of close tournaments before your etes is very hard. It is a normal human psychology to set a close goal for which a person works. There are different ideas (for tournaments), but so far there is no decision of the executive committee. Perhaps we will take some other decision”."

Uf how fun it must be to be a Russian figure skating athlete. :scratch2:

Not surprising at all. This season has been strange. A lot of skaters have been isolated and haven't gotten the chance to train properly.
I think it's great if there is another national competition in January instead of Euros, and then we have the Russian Cup Final in February.

To all Russian ladies' fans and my co-posters here who start celebrating Christmas today, may you all have merry, peaceful and happy Christmas, and no matter whether you are celebrating today or some other date, or not at all, may you all be healthy and well, may your dreams come true, may you finally find what you've been looking for, and enjoy RusNats despite all the gloom and struggle around! Let's root for all the wonderful ladies bringing so much joy to us all and extend our best wishes to them all, their families, coaches, judges and everyone there in a truly indiscriminatory way, too! After all, this is what Christmas is for!

Hmm wow. That's essentially Anna's old layout. Although, I just really want her to be clean, so I hope she goes with something "safer" like this.

I hope so too. Although, it's interesting from the girl who always wants to jump.

In other news, win and you're probably going to Worlds. But if you don't and we like you, expect a Evgenia Liza Cup of Russia esque skate-off scenario. And we reserve the right to pick whomever we want. So...business as usual.

Blast from the Past

What happened 21 years ago at RusNats back in 1999?

The night before Ladies Short program, Maria Butyrskaya's car blew up.
The police interrogated lots of people, among them Irina Slutskaya.
Slutskaya has said in interviews that she was terrified and was just crying at the police station.

They never found out who the perpetrator was.

The results:
1. Irina Slutskaya
2. Maria Butyrskaya
3. Viktoria Volchkova (Butsaeva)
4. Julia Soldatova

Top 3 selected for the World team, so Soldatova, who took bronze at Worlds previous year, lost her spot.

Yes she will need to nail it if this is what she goes for, Shcherbakova scored 160 with it but Shcherbakova generally gets better GOE on her spins and step sequences than Trusova.
