Maybe. I would definitely try to get quads if I were them. But if Sasha doesn't have a 3A next year, the Russian judges have shown they aren't going to break 80 in the short for her. And with Kamila they've shown they're very happy to dump an extra 10 points on a short with a triple axel, skating skills, and someone they like. In the long, being inconsistent and out of favor could still put her behind a skater being helped with GoE and PCS.
Possibly but looking at last year's GP scores, Sasha scored 241 at GPCAN. She had 4 quads and a fall on one but her PCS should increase next year. Aliona was basically maxed out at GPF with 247 so it'll be very close. Daria would basically have to do an Aliona and be clean with the 3A from the start.

But I guess if they really want her on the team, the judges can do whatever they like as long as she has a 3A.

Yeah well "try" is nice hah. Do you think if they were able to get a quad, they wouldn't have done it cause they just didn't want to try?
It's that they can't.
Alena had to work long and hard for a 3A and now is struggling to even get that back. There is no reason for Darya or Alena to not have joined the quad movement when everyone else in their rink did, except for they simply weren't able to. Especially considering the quads originated from their camp right on the same ice with them.

So sad that Darya with her current content going clean would have been Olympic Champion in 2014, and today most likely she'll not even get a spot to go.
In 2014 people would have dropped their jaws at her spins and flexibility like they did at Lipnitskaya, today it's just taken for granted and so many have it.
They would have praised her as a phenomenon as such a mature and developed performer for her age, now that's expected from a 14 or 15yo.
Even in 2018 she could have had her chance, for silver at least.

In less than 10 yeras we saw 5 generations of layouts.
1. Mastering of 3-3: Lipnitskaia
2. Mastering of 3-3s + backloading + tano: Medvedeva (Sakhanovich too but the girl didn't have luck with life)
3. Mastering of +3lo combos + extreme backloading + rippon: Zagitova
4. Mastering of backloading+ loop combos + quads OR 3A + rippon: Trusova, Shcherbakova, Kostornaya
5. Mastering of rippon quads AND 3A: Valieva, Akatieva, etc.

Sadly Usacheva has a layout similar to the Medevedeva generation (without the backloading because of rules). Not even a loop combo. She won't go far with that.

Well Alena's strategy has been to be as consistent as possible so she only added in the 3A when she was 90% sure she'll land it. Whereas the quadsters seem to have a strategy of practising new jumps in competition until they're comfortable with it. Perhaps Daria is going for the same strategyas Alena, especially considering she wasn't consistent in juniors last season.

(I also think Alena is the type to need a little more incentive to push her limits. Like, she only brought out the 3A when they threatened to keep her in juniors after test skates last season.)

I didn't say they haven't been trying. But are you saying they've tried, they can't, just give up and stick to the axels? There's a lot of time between worlds and next year's grand prix. Training during competition season, especially with all that's been going on for Aliona, is completely different than training during the off season, when the focus is always on progressing over maintaining.

I feel so conflicted about this. On the one hand I would really like Liza to get another go at a World Championship after what happened in 2019. As much as I love her and wish for her to make the Olympics next year, realistically I don't think she stands a chance, so she should have at least another Worlds at the dusk of her career.
On the other hand, Aliona was robbed of her Worlds medal in 2020 by the pandemic. It is not a given that she makes the team next year, so she should really have this opportunity to compete at what could be the only World Championship of her career.
Sometimes figure skating is such a cruel sport (especially if you are a Russian lady).
It's unbelievable isn't it? Of Course if for some reason we don't have the normal amount of competitors at a world championships for the ladies competition because some countries will not send their athletes to Stockholm that could open up another spot for say Russia and then both could go.;) It's really time for the International skating Union to come into the modern world and reward countries that dominate a discipline more than they do. This goes back many years beloved always wanted a combination of what they do now and mixing it with white like golf and tennis do with rankings.

At this point I just hope Alions is able to bring her B level game to the Russian cup she might be able to beat Liza with that.
She was certainly the favorite to win worlds gold last year until they cancel that due to the virus..

Golf and tennis are kind of different no? Olympics is basically a non event in those sports?

I think figure skating would do well to follow the gymnastics model. Multiple medals that the same people have a chance of getting, like the different apparatus. They could do the technical and artistic programs that have been considered already but I'd like to still have an all around competition in the current format.

Haha praying for her to bring her S level game to nationals and Olympics next year!

I will gladly take your explanation of using the gymnastics model.

Whatever level AK is at I just wanna see her skate. She is such a beautiful skater..

IIRC, the reason I'm a fan of elizaveta khudaiberdieva is not only because of her adorable screeching in the kiss-and-cry at that one jgp. It's because she went against something sotnikova said on Twitter. Khudaiberdieva was like, Don't listen to her, girls, your body should be taken care of, or something like that.

What? When? Which program?
I'm just speculating, I don't actually know anything about the 'surprises'. But Anna started the season with her free program ending with Nobody Ever Called Me That, it was changed to Secrets a week later. After Russian Nationals she had an interview where she explained that the music was changed because she didn't have the stamina to pull it off convincingly (something about how the music was very soft and she needed to be stronger than it, but still couldn't at the beginning of the season). Then it seemed like she wanted to give her original music another shot since she has more stamina now, but who knows if they ever even intended on going back.

Edit: Just watched her run-through, she still has Secrets.

Some protocols appeared. 1TV won't publish them, but gave skaters their protocols. Someone posted a fewView attachment 3165View attachment 3166
everytime I see Trusova being the only one called for her edge when Daria and Scherbakova constantly don't get called just makes me asdfghjktrsasdfghjk. Even in a "joke" competition like people like to call it, they still called her flip but conveniently ignored everyone else!

Calling Trusova's edge in an event like this is a bit much.

I agree. Strange...

They need pretty performances to win. Sasha will only dominate if she had 3A. She has the power for it, but not the consistency
? The posts were talking about Sasha getting a (!) in a joke event when they let everyone else go 😅
