You'll even see 8 year olds skating to these tunes in the small competitions that are streamed almost every weekend.

I suppose nobody in Russia really cares about the innuendo of certain 'western' lyrics. When the tune is to their liking, it is put on ice.

Personally, I'd like to hear more Russian pop music, but then there might be music copyrights problems.

I think the bigger problem is the reception on the international level. While you are expected to skate to Swan Lake, Scheherezade etc., the modern russian music is not what people are used to hear.

Some people love to create programs before the new movie comes out e.g. Yuna decided to skate to Les Mis before the new movie came out in 2013, before everyone was tired of it
