That quote from Keegan breaks my heart. This is the full article by Dan Barnes about Keegan: https://edmontonsun.com/sports/olym...-figure-skater-waiting-on-negative-covid-test
I really hope he makes it in time for the individual event.I think, having also watched the women's version of the same video (which didn't include Kamila Valieva) and reading the comments, the Olympic channel are mainly featuring skaters they have clips of either from previous Olympics or from the Youth Olympics, which would explain why there are some fairly notable missing skaters in both videos... They've also made some rather interesting clip choices (such as showing Loena popping a jump in slow motion in their women's video), not that I have a plausible explanation for that!i certainly have a slightly different top 9![]()
i think the "we are looking at the many options available" includes the alternate option... and now I think it's okay that it's not revealed to the public... that athlete would need to get ready to compete, fly there, test negative obviously before and after the flight.... do everything as if he will compete but with the chance that it may never happen... it's a very difficult mental situation and the least possible media hype around the alternate would be the right approach at this point...Is anyone else worried that so far there is absolutely no news about the first alternate being sent to Beijing? I'm VERY concerned that there is no Plan B.
I wonder if Wesley can't go without withdrawing Keegan? Is anyone else worried that so far there is absolutely no news about the first alternate being sent to Beijing? I'm VERY concerned that there is no Plan B.
this is an important question for which I do not know the answer for sure... someone can help? I think that if an athlete "competes" in the team event, he cannot be replaced in the singles (remember Plushenko) At this point, Keegan will not compete in the team event, so he would need to be w/d before the deadline to submit the entries for the SP of the men's singles.. there is still time to do that, and there is still time to fly the alternate to China if there is still time to fly keegan to ChinaI wonder if Wesley can't go without withdrawing Keegan?
so for the COC i guess there is "still time " but how much... ???
A different article reports that Keegan has the full support of the Canadian Olympic Committee, and it also confirms that Roman will replace him in the Team Event: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/canadian-figure-skater-messing-awaiting-030419866.html
"He's training right now, he's healthy, he's ready," said Eric Myles, the COC's chief sport officer. "We have a series of plans that can go as far as coming in the night before and skating the day after. We will take it to the maximum to bring him here."
Roman Sadovsky, Canada's other men's singles entry and the national silver medallist, will replace Messing in the team event, in which Canada is the reigning Olympic champion.
but that doesn't talk about the what ifs ... to me, that's an answer that implies they are hopeful for Keegan to get there, are looking at all possible scenarios, but it doesn't exclude the "if he cannot get there, we have an alternate ready to go"...Looks like they won’t be sending a sub for Keegan.
“A number of contingency plans are in place for the 30-year-old figure skater to compete if cleared, including flying him into Beijing the night before the men's short program if necessary, said COC chief sport officer Eric Myles. "We will take it to the maximum to bring him here," Myles said.”

I thought the start order was based on the ISU World Standings, at least for the men: http://www.isuresults.com/ws/ws/wsmen.htmThe start order has been officially released : Piper and Paul and Kirsten and Mike have good draws. Roman skates very early. If he is not clean, he will be buried in the standing. As it is the first event of the team competition, it will pretty much tell the story.
quite possible and logical... doesn't change a thing though... Roman needs to nail this.I thought the start order was based on the ISU World Standings, at least for the men: http://www.isuresults.com/ws/ws/wsmen.htm
