It wouldn't be Olympic Games without a bit of behind the scenes drama. I will leave it at that. Those who seem to know better, well, if you cannot share it, it may be nice to not say anything... I believe that's in the code of conduct of Golden Skate to leave the rumours in the mill if sources cannot be provided :) I will even refrain to make puns about this whole situation....

I’m seeing so many rumors that Keegan has covid and they’re waiting for him to test negative to travel for the individual event. This makes me so sad if true. Canada didn’t need to hold nationals and put their skaters at risk. I have no idea how Roman is going to manage potentially 4 skates in a short time. I can’t see Keegan willingly miss the team event since he’s such a team player. I hate everything about this :(

If this rumour is true, Keegan didn't necessarily catch COVID at Nationals. Alaska has the highest number of COVID-19 cases per capita in the USA ( https://www.healthline.com/health-n...est-covid-19-case-rate-whats-behind-the-surge ), so even if he didn't travel to Ottawa, he can still get infected because the COVID situation is really bad in his state.

Assuming that this speculation is correct, will Skate Canada send the first alternate (Wesley? Joseph?) to Beijing just in case Keegan won't be able to compete? It's one thing for SC to waste a men's spot at 4CC, but to waste an Olympics spot is just criminal.

If Roman has to do the SP in the Team Event, our chances of qualifying for the free skate have diminished because he tends to fall apart under pressure. And even if Canada makes it to the FS. then I'll be extremely worried that he won't qualify for the FS in the individual event because he'll be so exhausted.

I have to admit that this tweet made me chuckle. Does anyone remember the kids game show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Now it feels like we're playing Where in the World Is Keegan Messing?

Did you all see that CBC sports posted an introduction to Keegan Messing yesterday?
Obviously this probably doesn't mean much because those are probably scheduled to upload, but I'm hoping for the best.
I'm definitely worried about Roman. I had an unnecessarily mean dream about him in the team event last night, lol.
I just wish SC would be transparent.

Yes, I already posted that fluff piece of Keegan a few days before CBC Sports YouTube channel did ;) : https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/2021–22-canadian-figure-skating.88358/page-58#post-2912119

I agree with you that I wish SC would keep us better informed.

1) oh well... too bad.. i liked the orange costumes :)

2) now... this makes me really sad because yes, I had already read into the cryptic posts earlier in this thread... but of course, no sources ever came.. and i knew that 1+1 most likely = covid19 and that would come up soon enough about Keegan. This is very upsetting... but what upsets me more are things like written on this forum like : Canada has decided not to split the team event... that's NOT TRUE. If Keegan is not skating the team event, it's certainly not because Skate Canada doesn't want him to do it.. and most likely not because Keegan himself does not want to do it... as a matter of fact, he is hinting at retiring after the world team trophy next year... he loves the team competition. So whatever happened to him, is it possible to show some compassion and decency by not saying things that are most likely not founded? And it is especially not true concerning pairs... we knew women could not be split... we almost always knew dance probably would not be split... we always suspected pairs and men would be split, based on results and schedule... if this has to change.. it's certainly not because Skate Canada has made a cut-throat decision about this.

this is why I hate rumours.... when they turn out to be true, they are devastating.. and when they are false, they create a lot of harm too...

What a terrible situation for Keegan, and Roman too.
It will take me a while to process this... Canadian singles men champion curse... every single time at the Olympics... even those who are not world champions... i hate to bring up that narrative... but as a fan, it's been tough... the last happy moment for men's singles 2006... before and since then, it's been a series of injuries, underperforming, bad lucks, coaching problems, and now waiting for bug to get out of the system... which can take a long time for some... :( i think i need to take a bath or go for a walk or both lol.

Canadian men are cursed.
I hope Wesley is getting ready just in case but I don't know if I trust Skate Canada tbh

I totally understand your pain. I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight. I'm currently on the verge of tears. I've met Keegan, and I'm just so sad that this had to happen to him. 😭

What have the Canadian men's singles skaters done to piss off the Olympics gods so much? :devilish: Will this curse last for an eternity?

I don't trust Skate Canada, either. After what happened at 4CC, I'm very worried that they don't have a back-up plan.
