Gorgeous performance by Alysa. I love how expressive those arms are and the jumps are nice and easy looking.

Baffled to as why she did not come first.
She didn’t come in first because this was an artistically focused competition and the woman in first is overall stronger with SS, performance, musicality, creativity, etc. and performed a variation of one of her best programs ever :)

Still, Alysa was amazing and her improvements are coming along nicely. She always had pretty decent flow, edges, and musicality for her age but the newfound speed and strength has added SO much to her skating. No matter how subpar anyone thought Alysa’s SS were before, I always thought it was absolutely ridiculous that people assumed a 12-14 year old wouldn’t improve. I’m so glad she’s proving everyone wrong.

Thought it was very adorable that the top 3 all had Bird themed programs. Karen’s program and her performance ability was obviously class of the field. I’m so happy she brought back that program for this competition. It’s one of my favorite SPs ever. Best bird program ever.

Isabeau’s Swan Lake 2.0 was really impressive, too. She’s SO balletic and musical. The attention to detail and execution of the choreo is sublime. Not just considering she’s a junior, but in general, it’s a really special quality that not many have. She’s going to be the most artistically gifted US lady in a couple of years.

Alysa was amazing and powerful. I hope the competition version of the program is a little less busy, and a little more thoughtful, but the improvements of her skating and the overall quality of what she’s doing is really good.

Personally, I love this podium :)

Alysa did a great job! Her performance actually made me a little sad because it does sound like this will be her last competitive season. Which is expected, given how much her father values education and not wanting to hold off for another full Olympic cycle. But she has improved so much it would be a shame to have her stop here and end her career when she could do so much more growth over time.

I could see her having a Gracie-like Olympic post-season if she stays, coming off of a strong finish at the Olympics without a medal but being a world medalist contender the next two years. And no, that’s not a mean comparison because Gracie has always been a brilliant skater and did improve tremendously from 2015-2016.

Wait, what about her performance made you think that this will be her last competitive season?? 😦

Love to see Alysa doing so well, those skating skills have improved so much. Hope she'll stay in the sport and lead the USA women for a few more years.

Does anyone have a link to Karen's performance as well?
Has Alysa talked about retiring after the Olympics???

I dont know if it's true or not, but I'm sure they didnt make it up out of nowhere. Its possible Alysa's dad has expressed that he really wants her to go to college after the Olympics, but Alysa will hopefully make her own decision when the time comes.
