You’d have even more to say if you knew that their FD music includes the old boy band hit, “Bye Bye Bye.” I was reduced to giggles the first time I saw them perform it, and since then cannot help thinking of this team as “Bye Bye Bye.” :)

I'd rather hear that then the black-eyed peas or Billie Eilish

In juniors news, Clare Seo finished 1st at Henderson after placing 2nd in both the SP (behind Josephine Lee) and FS (behind Mia Kalin). And Mia stood up on two 4Ts during her FS, although both received negative GOE. Since Isabeau plans to compete as a senior at nationals this year, Clare seems well poised to be our next junior national champ.

SP protocols here and FS protocols here.

How do you know Bradie is retiring after this season? Has she stated this somewhere?

I think its just an assumption based on the fact that she's going to be 24 at the end of the season and has had bad back injuries or a recurring back injury. And probably to an extent - she's technically deficient against the other top skaters in the world - for her to medal at international events like GPs or higher, at this point is going to pretty much be reliant on her being clean and someone with higher technical difficulty having mistakes. Additionally with Alysa and some of the juniors that are likely going to compete as seniors either this season or next, she won't have the technical arsenal to podium in the US. Given her back injuries and whatever was wrong with her this offseason, if it wasn't her back, is she really going to be able to achieve with some consistency and triple axel or a quad?

Hanna Harrell got a 114.61 in her FS. Not bad at all!
Protocols just came out. No triple triple. Also, 2A 2T was another combo. Happy to see her back. But, this isn’t competitive enough to be top ten in USA, at the moment. Hopefully, she will get better as the season progresses.

Mariah Bell would have won this competition easily.

Mariah withdrew from the Free Skate.
Yes, I imagine that was always the plan. The SP is new and she needs to practice the choreo. However, she returned to her previous program in the FS so she likely didn't think it was necessary to perform it.

I don't get that. She could use as many competitive outings as she can get, and she's already at the location of the event. Alysa and Karen have competed twice and Mariah has a lot of work to do to catch up.

Well, Mariah and her coaches obviously thought it was the right decision. Russian skaters do it all the time in domestic events so it is a common practice. She knows the Hallelujah program very well and she is currently undergoing some personal issues which she might need to work through. Competition practice is important, but this competition wouldn't help Mariah in her search for a higher SB score. She is also a seasoned competitor and being 25 is old in skating years. You don't want to exhaust yourself.

I actually find Bradie being assigned to three competitions in rapid succession to be an odd decision. However, I guess Bradie is also an adult and knows what her body can take.

Was Mariah just looking to see how her new SP would play in front of the judges? With the lead that she had, I imagine this would have been an easy win for her. Did they give a reason for her withdrawal?

That's most likely the reason. Mariah doesn't need a win at a small domestic event, and winning at a small domestic event wouldn't really help her Olympic chances. Especially if she isn't competition ready for a free program yet, she has a lot more to lose from competing than from not competing.

I don't think the result, whether good or bad, would impact her Olympic chances either way. I can't think of an instance in which a skater bombed a small, early season competition and it resulted in them not making a team if they otherwise performed well later in the season. I guess I would have just liked to see her get that first LP of the season done so she has something to build from.
