Me too. I'm sorry for criticizing US ladies in the past. I don't realize how difficult to be a "clean" athlete until now. Sorry to Karen as I was a bit pissed off about the team event choice.
Karen is a rock star. She had those boot problems for years. She hadn’t been on competitive ice in quite some time and had been forgotten about by some. All of a sudden she showed up at Philly International looking GREAT and we were all shocked. I always admire athletes who battle back like that. In a cold rink, every day, mostly forgotten. Never giving up.

I’m so sad that a rightfully earned Olympic team medal is being held hostage. I hope Karen will get her medal soon! She’s really had an unbelievable career being a 2x Olympian, 5x national medalist, and making it to fourth in the world TWICE in two slightly different eras of women’s skating. It’s especially incredible for her when you consider the many injuries, time away from skating, and the comebacks she’s mounted!

I really hope she gets that Olympic team medal soon! Maybe it will even end up being Gold

She broke herself trying to keep up. I have always admired her spirit. She was tacking on 2Ts and 2Ls at the back of her 3F to get more points. It must be incredibly hard now, sitting out injured knowing the odds were NEVER in your favour in the first place because of "stuff"
Yes. Poor Bradie. She worked so hard and pushed herself to extremes. I remember when she kept trying the 3Lz 3Lo to add 3-4 points to her PB. But, it was too inconsistent. The Triple Axel was the one ultra-c jump she was close to landing and I think ultimately led to her injury. She was the top American and along with the top Japanese Lady, Rika, they were the two non-Russians that made the Grand Prix Finals with four Russian girls. When they came 4th and 5th, you could see that they both knew they had to push it technically if they wanted to podium. To see both of them injured now because they pushed themselves to extremes to compete against the top Russians is heartbreaking.

However, Rika gives me hope. She learned the 3A as a Junior and her landing 4S at Japanese Nationals, last year, at least showed me that it is possible to naturally learn the 3A, 4T or 4S. I’m pretty sure Rika is clean and so it is possible to have the technical content to compete against the Russians. Her skate at Japanese Nationals was remarkable and I believe if she executed that same content, she would be a fixture in the podium, even with these Russians.

It really hurt Mariah not to have a skats in the team event. I hope the same does not happen to Alysa because she has a chance to put up a big SP score if she hits her 3A and the
judges are already respecting her improved artistry and skating skills.

I hope Karen is clean. That should get her a really nice score.

Top 8 for Alysa! Not bad considering her status was up in the air after nats. Why didn't Karen put in the 3F instead of the 3Lo for the SP? I hope she has a free skate she's proud of and is able to look back on as a good memory. Didn't watch Mariah but hope she pulls up with her lovely Hallelujah FS. Go Team USA!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸

So happy to see Alysa skate clean and she seems like having lots of fun! 2A strategy works the best for her. She is still adjusting growth spurt and her 3A is not consistent this season. I really hope Alysa can stick around and go for Olympics in 2026. By that time, her artistry will be more mature and more used to her fully grown body.

^^ I believe Alysa's in 8th right now, but penultimate group for FS along with Mariah!!

I haven't watched yet, but I wish Mariah had just planned a 3-2 and executed it. Despite the fall, she did well, ESPECIALLY skating so early in the draw. Can't wait to watch her and Alysa!

Karen has a really obvious lip which is called a lot (one of the costs of having a gorgeous lutz). If you just look at her record of flips on skatingscores, her flip has been called clean at only three international competitions in her entire career. Since the loop hasn't been working in practice, it may have been smarter to just concede the base value to do a triple salchow instead.

Puberty hit her hard but she's come out of it so well and with a big future. Good luck to Alysa in the free skate.

Congrats to Alysa for coming in top 8 in the short, right about where she was expected to land. I expect that we’ll probably see the ladies fall in the 8-11 range once the free skate shakes out, which is far from awful.

Russian ladies aside, we aren’t in the same place as the Japanese ladies in terms of consistency yet (Kawabe excluded as she is so new to the scene). It shouldn’t be seen as underperforming for them to come in right about where they were expected, especially since we knew they weren’t real podium threats even with Kamila out of the picture.

Alysa is also adjusting to the coach change as well.

Alysa interview: "I just want to enjoy Olympics and I just skate for myself". She did it. She should feel proud of her stunning performance. I see that the coach change has positive impact on Alysa. She has improved her jumps compared to NHK GP and national. However, she still needs more time and hopefully, she will be more ready for the next Olympics 4 years later.

Amid all the grief, elation, and furor of the women's Olympic fs, I'm so happy and proud of Alysa and Mariah!! 7th and 8th in the FS, and both top 10 overall. Awesome!!

Who is going to World championship this year? I doubt Karen wants to go this time. Perhaps Lindsay/Alysa/Mariah?
