I think so, too. She does everything well. (although her toe jumps don't have great technique). I don't like the music for figure skating but she is so musical and makes even boring music interesting. My dream Japanese Olympic team is Rika, Rino, and Wakaba. However, I think the most likely team is Rika, Rino, and Kaori. The Japanese judges love Kaori and they have scored Rino very well compared to her competitors. I think she is a favorite. I will likely be mourning for Wakaba and Satoko at JN this year.
Wakaba is going to have to get her 3A going for the reasons you just stated. Without it, even clean, I wouldn't count on the Japanese judges. And Rino isn't the skater you can count on making mistakes to help you.

Looks like I had nothing to worry about with Rika’s music choice. It’s definitely better than that thing she was skating to last season and it’s better than Angel of Peace, too. I think this program, along with her short, may be her best set so far. But she needs to learn to project outward (instead of inward) for this piece. It requires it. She can do it! I can’t wait to see it!

I found Higuchi dull until the step sequence. This is nothing new, though. Business as usual. Additionally, the two falls just took me out it. I thought I’ll enjoy Sakamoto, but I did not. The music doesn’t fit her at all and I keep thinking about how another skater could do a better job.

Mihara is just….non-descript. I’m not even sure if she picked the worst music-it accentuates her snooziness-or the best-being snoozy is in her very core so it fits her like a glove.

Matsuike was gorgeous even with the unnecessary wailing in the background. I thought she was the best out of the bunch and this is definitely an upgrade from the strawberry shortcake programs she had last season. She’s coming for somebody’s podium spot come JNats!
Wakaba was clean in her next 2 performances, except for a popped flip in one of them. IMO she was better than Rino in those, but Rino was very impressive for sure.

I love Rino. I watched her free skate. Love how she is attempting a 3A and has all three of her combos at the end of the program.
She is so light on her feet that she under rotated that 3A pretty bad, but didn't really come close to falling.

I would love to see Wakaba skate clean with a 3A at nationals!
I'm not sure if she would be confident enough to try one in the SP. Hopefully she has some great performances at the GP events to build up some momentum, I just really want to see her skate at the olympics!

Nationals could be great this year if the girls can all peak at the right time. Interesting clashes of similar styles for several skaters IMO. Kahira and Mihara are solid but not charismatic , but Rika has a 3A and hopefully a quad. Higuchi is powerful and fast like Sakamoto, but without the consistency and the awkwardness, but with quick feet and musicality. Rino is graceful and flowing like Satoko, but with jumping ability and without the experience. Then you have Mana and Hana as potential wildcards. Hopefully they all skate well and the judging is fair.

Does anyone know Saki Miyake's birthdate?

Also, if anyone happens to know her current coach/coaches and club/academy, that would be helpful, too.

Thanks!

Thanks!
Saki Miyake
Birthdate: Nov. 23rd, 2002

She trains in Okayama, and she lists her school as her belonging club. The information I find is that she trains with Azumi Hata (who was one of Tatsuki Machida's former coaches)

Saki missed the All Japan Nationals last year. I think there's recent training clip posted in her Twitter that she's landing 3A in practice (she had attempted 3A in local competitions before, IIRC).

There are 2 local competitions currently undergoing around Kyoto area: one is the '1st Kinoshita Academy Trophy' and the second '48th FS competition for elementary/middle school students from western Japan'. So some notable results from the 2 competitions:

Sr. ladies' SP from Kinoshita Academy Trophy: SP protocol
1. Hana Yoshida 64.34 (a step out from the beginning 3A, but the jump is rotated from the protocol)
2. Mana Kawabe 53.29 (the 1st jump in the protocol is 2A, but from the live tweet ppl thought it was a 3A with a fall...)

Adv A ladies from the second competition: FS protocol, FS only
1. Mao Shimada 105.62 (a fall with the beginning 4T, but the jump is rotated from the protocol)

The 1st Kinoshita Academy Trophy will keep on with the FS on Aug. 8th (I will update the result here later on).

Also some notes for the up-coming 'Gen-san Summer Trophy': the above skaters will all participate in the competition, but both Hana Yoshida and Mao Shimada will be skating in the Jr. ladies' category.

Hana landed clean 3A :hap10: https://mobile.twitter.com/figureskatingm1/status/1424321640004005890 She's eligible for senior events this year, right? Great competition to her, congrats to Mana, too!
FS protocol from the competition: https://www.jsfresults.com/local/2021-2022/fs/26/283/data0105.pdf
It was a cleanly executed program of 8 triples (incl. 3A) from Hana.

I was looking forward to Hana's performance at Gen-san Summer Trophy, but it looked like she WD-ed from the Jr. ladies' competition there. Perhaps to save some energy?

Adding: the FS was to 'Planet Ocean Suite :Underwater-I come from the Ocean-Coral Tree', choreo-ed by Lori Nicole.

Thanks for the report! Do you know who Chisato switched from? I would like to add it to the coaching changes thread.
It's early in the season, but I am hopeful that the top ladies outside of Kaori/Mai's team will start adding 3-3s soon, in time for the earliest Challengers. If those take place that is, and if JSF sends their skaters there to get some much-needed ranking points 🤞
Satoko 😥 Her jumps are still not stable, it seems...

I got the info from her ISU bio, I think it's correct: her former coaches are -
Masako Ogino, Shiori Jinno, Taijin Hiraike, Yukako Sugita
