I decide to make a post about the 3A attempt counts from all the regional competitions. I will update the information here: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/2021-22-japan-regionals-general-info.88939/

The following is what we got from the first 2 regionals this weekend:

Regional/block#6 Chu-Shikoku-Kyushu Regional (中四国九州選手権大会)

  • Saki Miyake - 3A attempt in FS, with a fall (marked q in protocol; BV 8.00//-4 GOE)
Regional/block#4 Chubu Regional (中部選手権大会)

  • Rino Matsuike - 3A attempt in FS, reportedly 2 footed on the landing (marked << in protocol; BV 3.30//-1.65 GOE) *also in report Rino landed 3A in 6-min warming-up, but obviously underrotated or q-marked.

3A is not working yet for Rino, so I wonder if it's smart to jump it in competition in the Olympic season. It's okay if she practices it, but it doesn't look competition-ready, so if it's still unstable by her first GP, I hope they replace it with 2A. She could earn more points on a big 2A than on a two-footed downgraded 3A... :scratch2:

Does anyone have a video of this mysterious "Woman" LP from Kaori that she apparently skated before? She's decided to stick to it for the season.

(here are clips of it lmao: https://twitter.com/andthewaltz/status/1433858624548339714)

ETA: Found it on instagram... https://www.instagram.com/p/CUAdEUcpFw4/ Am hoping there will be some comments on it here :laugh2:
Oh, I have plenty of comments about this embarrassment. I can right a Shakespearean sonnet about the cringe-inducing voice-overs, but I’m pressed for time and not in the mood for iambic pentameter. I’ll say only this:

It’s never a good thing to laugh at a program that’s clearly not meant to be comedic. I absolutely lost my mind at I AM….A WOMAN. I sincerely hope this is the worst of it and there aren’t any stupid whispers of WARRIOR. SEXY. DESIRABLE. or any other stereotypical adjective in the middle because we’ll have something worse than unintentional hilarity on our hands. We’ll have a parody .

She's also cradling at the word "mother" or "children", I forget:laugh2: It's gold, but not of the kind Kaori wants lmao

Do you think Benoit is playing some subtle joke on the figure skating community this year with all of his "incredible" voice-over choices? Or, is he really just going a bit insane (like we all are) with pandemic fatigue?

Excellent skating by the Japanese girls……. Wakaba’s 3A was superb 👏 So proud of her. She is now making a case for the third spot and I have to say, I’d welcome that.

Also, Mana’s 3A was great as well and she nailed the rest of the triple jumps. She was the best technical skater today. Her PCS score though…. 😢

Interesting that Satoko is also going for the 3A. But, to be honest, she should focus on her triple jumps 😞; I knew her attempt at the triple axel wouldn’t work.

Kaori though is still my favourite. It wasn’t her best skate. Doubled her combo jump and an unexpected fall.

First of all, amazing 3A from Wakaba! Mana's was nice, too. Wakaba's program is probably the best program from any woman this year. It creates a moment! Second, watching the ladies and Shoma makes me realize how much I miss Japanese skaters! I really enjoyed every skate even Kaori's very questionable woman program.

This was a great night for Japanese skaters. Shoma managed to land 3 of his 5 quads, Shun had a fantastic skate (his first good one in almost two years) and landed his 4Lz and 4F, and Yuma landed the 4Lo today at a different competition as well. The 3As were all really good as well, Wakaba's 3A could rival a lot of the mens'.

So happy for my little adopted skater son Shun. Did anyone find a link to his performance? I found all the women's and Shoma's performances on YouTube but not Shun's.

Overall, pretty good performances, although none were perfect. The biggest takeaways to me were Wakaba's great 3A, the very harsh PCS score and excellent performance of Mana, conformation that Rino is a big threat to everyone, and the blatant favoritism towards Sakamoto as usual. Kaori was far from her best, yet dominated the PCS categories, got 1.33 GOE on a popped combo and I don't doubt some of those judges would have placed her first if she hadn't fallen on her butt at the end.

I thought Kaori deserved her big scores last year at JNats and NHK. She had a lot of speed, good performance, a fun program, and huge clean jumps. This program is not it, and she had a rougher jump day, so she should not lead PCS. Satoko deserved to win PCS, or maybe Wakaba. Wakaba is really making her case for the Olympic team, and that 3A was one of the best I've seen this season.

I didnt know Satoko skated too, her clip isnt on YouTube? How did she skate and what music is she using?
Wakaba's triple axel was brilliant! That pop on the lutz is the last one she's allowed to do all season, because she'll be so competitive this year with clean skates. The music cuts at the beginning of the program are questionable, but the whole second half, if she's clean, has standing ovation momentum.
Great triple axel too from Mana, and super close for Rino. Not to be dramatic, but Rino's lunge where she arches all the way back and just holds it for several seconds - made my day :)
Sorry Kaori, but I hate your music. Both programs are misses for me, which is so disappointing because she's had such great ones in previous seasons. I hope they make changes.

Mana's PCS score was harsh. I don't understand why the judges hate her so much.

Wakaba was actually scored decently here. Rino can be a threat but I don't see Wakaba, Mana, or Satoko just giving up without a fight.

Kaori is an amazing skater who is somewhat underscored internationally, but she is so overscored in Japan. These programs are not just bad they are embarrassing. I still think Benoit is playing a joke on all of us this season.
