Ikura Kushida was the winner. I posted the videos of Hana and Ikura's in the Japanese national discussion forum.
Yes. Thank you. I appreciate it. I just post here to let the rest of the general forum know about these amazing regional competitions going on in Japan. I think Ayumi also attempted a 3A. I’m losing track with all these talented Japanese athletes. Waiting to see how Mana and Kaori perform in the free skate. Go Kaori!

Mao Shimada is landing a 4T in the FS of Kinki regional (Novice A Girls' final).

Her layout: 4T 3Lz3T 3F 3Lo 2A3T2T 3Lz (tano)
The final score is 120.83, which should be record breaking for domestic competitions.
Thanks for the information. I couldn't find a link to the performance but I found a video of a recent one in which Mao Shimada landed a quad toe and was amazed at how beautiful and symmetrical her rotation was on this and her quick reflexes in the triple flip and loop combo with a lot of snap and stately presence while covering large swathes of rink easily with smooth stroking of the blade.

The most recent one:

This one from a few months ago is a little better:

She does great jumping technique, her arms and back are in perfect position on the takeoffs and landings, no swinging or jerking in sight.

You see, we gave away one ray and now we have anarchy. Everyone trying to steal our sunshine. Our bundle will dwindle down to a handful in no time if we allow any more people to claim it. Haha

We have to remain vigilant. Or else we will get pretenders falsely statung that their favorite skater chases away rain clouds too. Only Kaori does that.

Has Rika WD from Skate Canada?
Her name has been crossed out in the entry list.
Not shocking. She is dealing with a serious injury she got prior to Worlds last year and she just changed coaches. Japanese federation almost always goes by nationals results. I imagine Rika is focusing on preparation for nationals given the fact that she likely far far being where she should be in October.

Do we know the reason why?

I think this might make it very hard for Rika to make the team. I do hope she doesn't let it affect her mentally, but if it's really an injury as I feared (and brought it up when some were saying it was probably just flight availability or scheduling - again, it was very odd indeed that she didn't go to Finlandia...), she might find it very hard to bring back her tech content (which I think @lurkerghost1 brought up). If she's still just recovering (and not a fresh injury), then it seems very scary for her if it's lasted for this long. This is the time for Wakaba and Rino to get that 3A consistent to make their case.

If you go to Rika's fan fest you can see articles that were posted about her condition in July. She was seriously injured last year before Worlds and she didn't jump for several months. In July, she started jumping again, but she made it clear that her goal was to be prepared by Japanese Nationals. Of course, the injury is an issue and could well mean she can't go to the Olympics. However, JF has never cared about GP results. They almost always exclusively go by National results. So, if Rika is able to be prepared by nationals ( which she made clear was her goal back in July) JF will certainly still put her on the team.

If Rika is able to restore her previous technical content, neither Rino or Wakaba will outscore her. If she can't, then certainly they both have a good chance to make the team.

So far the Japanese news only mentions the WD without giving the reason. My instinctive guessing would be that she's still recovering from previous injury. But it's just too early to make the assumption if Rika will make it to the Olympic team or not. Remember there are several 'conditions' for Olympian selection by JSF, and participation of GPF/higher ranking in the GP competitions is only one of the conditions (not a prerequisite one). Of course we all know that winner of Japanese Nationals automatically gain a spot. But other than that, results from Nationals, WS by ISU, and past results will all be counted towards the final decision. Even if a skater cannot make it to Nationals in the end, I believe s/he with a result like Rika's from the past will be taken into consideration!

The conditions basically allow them to pick anyone they want, but in reality they will go with top 3 at Nats, unless someone is really dominant during this season, (unlikely with all the good Russians) but comes in fourth slightly behind a girl not named Rika, Kaori, Wakaba, Rino, Satoko, Mai, or Mana. Very unlikely.

Only if the federation has reason to believe the athlete will perform well at the Olympics though. It's not exactly the same case as Hanyu in 2017-18 with Rika, I wouldn't say. But on the other hand, she might well end up recovering by nationals and competing.

I wonder who will replace Rika? Maybe Yuhana? She is already going to America and Canada is not too far. Praying Mai Mahara gets her spot as she only has one event so far.

Whoever is next in the SB list (and doesn't already have two spots). I'm sure there are specific rules that I've forgotten, but that's the gist.
