Thus, if Ash/Tim had been lower than 10th in the short, they would have been given the points for their actual post-WD placement: 13. A 1st by Alexa/Brandon would have resulted in 2 spots: 1 + 13 = 14.

@BlissfulSynergy :
but all I said was that after Ash/Timothy WD, what they did in the sp didn't count,

Words matter, though. Ashley and Timothy helped earn 3 pairs spots for USA. What they did in the SP did count.

Why do people seem to dislike Alexa so? I don’t understand it.

Who seems to dislike Alexa so? If you're referring to remarks on Twitter or some other social media, that's ... well, you know.

“We are all different, no one is supposed to be liked by everyone,” says life coach Vikki Louise. “That’s life. No single person you know is liked by everyone, fact.”

Posters here. I don’t remember which. People seem to desperately want her to retire, cracks about the “fake leather” bags she used to sell. Criticisms that she dared to celebrate becoming World champion after Ash and Tim’s accident. If you look at their fan fest no one seems to ever post there either. Compare that with any other US world champion ever.

So just when US Pairs is having all this kind of success now it looks like at least two teams have broken up and the top two might be done too. So much for the depth that we had in Pairs.
Where do you get any kind of information that Alexa and Brandon have any plans to retire?
It’s 4 teams that have broken up. Not two.

Some posters are always pessimistic. :rolleye: While I tend to think that the odds are that C_G/L and K/F will retire it's not certain by any means.
The opportunities for US pairs haven't been this good in a long time and I expect a few pairs will step up to the challenge and succeed. Remember, the thought was by at least one poster that the USA would lose a spot for men at Worlds. We didn't did we? All is not doom and gloom.

And I think there is just slightly more than a snowballs chance in Hades that Alexa and Brandon will retire. When she said “no matter what our story is not over” I don’t think she meant “our story after skating together.”

^^^ I guess we'll find out soon enough what the plans are for our top US pairs. And while I freely admit that Ashley and Tim are my favorite current USA pairs, I'm reminded of that picture Ashley posted on instagram showing her appreciation for the entire USA team.

Most of the time the skaters, although they compete against each other often, usually have a great respect and friendliness toward each other. So I cheered for Alexa and Brandon to skate well at worlds, and was happy they won. And Likewise I'll cheer for and support all team USA and all the other skaters I like from other countries.

Word on the street is that he had a tryout with Olivia Serafini and Chelsea is returning to school. Whether it is related to the concussion or not who knows.

It is. Chelsea wasn't ready to train for Nationals, and still has recovery time ahead of her.

If Danny is training with someone else, it may be awhile before we hear official word. Remember how long his & Chelsea's new partnership was kept under wraps. If he's training with Olivia, someone would have to switch rinks?, so we might know before long. But who knows. IIRC, Olivia was training in California when Mervin Tran tried out with her 4 years ago.

This is not correct. Rule 378 (2.b) says this about a WD during competition:

“However the Competitors who withdrew because of:
- illness or injury, (provided this illness or injury is certified by the ISU Medical Advisor) or
- unexpected damage to the equipment during the warm up or the performance (provided this damage of the equipment is certified by the Referee), are not considered as entered for the purpose of this Rule if they did not start or finish the Free Skating/Free Dance, but were among the top ten in the Short Program/Rhythm Dance.”

Thus, if Ash/Tim had been lower than 10th in the short, they would have been given the points for their actual post-WD placement: 13. A 1st by Alexa/Brandon would have resulted in 2 spots: 1 + 13 = 14.

Great, I get it, thanks very much to everybody who chimed in to clarify this for me! :)

But I want to know now 🥲🥲🥲🥲😂😂😂

Their placement did indeed matter, because the rule required a top 10 in the short.
Yes, thanks. I didn't miss that clarification. I mistakenly based my comments upon having read wording in the rule that someone had posted earlier. The distinction you have noted was not clear. Additionally, my point is, there was no anticipated danger of Ash/Timothy failing to place within the top ten under normal circumstances! If she was actually badly injured after the Olympics, U.S. fed would have replaced Ash/Timothy prior to Worlds taking place. The point is: It's nice to understand the ins-and-outs of the rule, which is instructive. But in this case, it's moot. It didn't happen like that and if there was any inkling of a serious problem, Ash/Timothy would have been replaced prior to the event. This is why alternates are named. The problem in the fp was unexpected, And that's when the questions arose about this convoluted rule.

We really don't know what went wrong with Ashley. I would suspect that having to go back-to-back days didn't allow for enough time to rest her formerly sprained ankle which might not have been in tip-top shape. She was ready to go for the event, but maybe the sp led to a flare-up. Sprained ankles can be problematic. We don't know if that's the case though, unless and until a statement about it is made, which I doubt will happen at this juncture.

It’s not moot, because she easily could have arrived at Worlds with her injury fully healed, THEN gotten injured again in practice prior to the SP. The rules on 3 spots made it essential for Ash/Tim to be top 10 in the SP. Yes, very likely with so few pairs entered. But they still had to skate & make it happen.

I am not pessimistic. I hoped so desperately I was wrong about Jes and Brian. But I was right🥲🥲🥲
We have now lost …5 pairs if I am counting correctly? In the last…week?

If I was USFS I would be (when Alexa and Brandon get off tour) be camped out on their doorsteps, flying planes with banners “Please Don’t Even Think About It, y’all” over their houses, offering the sun, moon and stars, anything to keep them from even thinking about retiring. Ash and Tim too IF her doctors clear her. Should they both retire…I mean I like Chan/Howe too…but they are in no way ready to be our number one pair. And McBeath/Bartholomay aren’t ready to be our number 2 team. And I’ve already filed adoption papers on Plazas/Fernandez, but they aren’t ready to be our number 3 team either.
Could we actually end up with no GP assignments (other than host) for our pairs? (If Alexa/Brandon and Ash/Tim were to retire?).
USFS, you should have thrown Jess and Brian a bone and at least given them 4CCs. I told you. USFS you should really listen to me more.😂😂😂😂
And no I don’t think the shafting was THE reason, but I think it was the last straw.
In trying to make lemonade from these lemons…Danny and Jess?

Other than that do we try to haul Max Settledge out of retirement? Lure Deanna back from Canada? Gracie Gold, pairs girl?

We are in deep poo. It takes most teams way longer to gel than Alexa and Brandon. Way longer. Deep poo, I tell you.

Someone tell me I’m overreacting?

What a difference a few months make.

When we ended US Nats, I was so upbeat about the future of US Pairs. So many good teams, and others in the wings.

Now we have World Champions who are probably at least thinking about hanging up their competitive skates. I'm worried about he longterm health of Ashley CG. Brian and Jessica are done. Audrey and Misha are done...

Someone is bound to step up. I love Chen and Howe, but it's a big jump from penultimate group at Nationals to Champion. I do remember a young pair... names slip my mind, but they're about three years from being really ready for the podium.

Edit: @moonvine and I appear to be on the same wavelength. But she remembered Plazas/Fernandez when I couldn't. Congrats to her, but she may have a custody battle on her hands. LOL

Can't say you are overreacting because I think you are spot on.

The pairs discipline has been my favorite for a very long time. Am I disappointed in recent developments? Darn right I am. But I don't expect K//F or C-G/L or any team to skate forever or be the saviors of pairs in the USA. That kind of thinking is unrealistic. We;ve seen how people can get injured, tired, run out of money or just get older and get new priorities. So if the USA underperforms in pairs for a few seasons I'll be disappointed but not disillusioned or devastated. I've seen this happen before and frankly with what's happening in the world I can't act like the status of USA pairs is the most inportant thing to me. It's not.
