2021 Cranberry Cup International

When my last child graduated from a college in the Boston area, I celebrated never having to drive in the Boston area again. (And Cambridge is even worse than Boston proper)
It’s the 2 days between St Louis and the venue that is making me cry. Here now though.

Ok brief report. I snagged the last handicapped spot at 10:30 am. I would not count on getting one tomorrow unless you get here at 6 am. Today there are precious few spectators. There are a lot of parking places; however large swaths of them are reserved for officials and volunteers and for some reason the parking places in front of the building are marked off with orange cones.

Closest food is several miles away. A BK, a McDonald’s, and a little further up a deli/salad place.

WiFi is fast.

Beautiful facility. Absolutely stunning. No hockey barriers at all of course. Really sad I can’t throw things.

Unfortunately, feed is slow and breaking up on vimo. Too many fans streaming the event on their phones? Something is wrong with the throughput.....is there an IT person in the house?

So which stream is the actual competition? The west rink or the performance rink?

edit: nevermind, I found it in the west rink! So weird... why is it labeled performance if it's the practice rink??

I check the stream from Sweden. It works well enough. Hopefully it works tomorrow as well, when many more want to watch 🙏

Seems like they use both for competitions. Seniors will be at the Performance Center.

There was a different competition (I guess Cranberry Cup vs International) in the Performance Rink. I made that mistake when I arrived. The dance is going to be in the Performance Rink.

The West Rink is the practice rink, though both have seating.

A bit random, but does anyone know if Will Annis is still going to JGP in France? If so, is he flying right after this? I was just wondering because Ilia Malinin is not on Cranberry and I think it's because he's going to JGP Courchevel 🤔

Has anyone else had trouble with the streams? The West rink stream kept freezing for me for the junior women SP and LP

The Performance Rink is the competition venue this week for all of the senior Cranberry International segments, all of the Lake Placid International segments, and many of the Cranberry Open segments.
If anything, the Performance Rink is more like the "primary" (my word) rink compared to the West Rink. The Performance Rink has a lot more seating than the West Rink, plus the Performance Rink has true seats (as opposed to the West Rink's bleachers).
(Both the Performance Rink and the West Rink also are being used for some of this week's practices.)

... Kinda funny in Junior men that the Fitterer brothers from the UK both scored 50.01 😄

Yes, it was mind-boggling! What are the odds?!? 🤭 🆒
In previous seasons, I have seen the Fitterers compete at Mid Atlantics in NYC (representing their club in NJ, iirc).
Cranberry is my first awareness of them representing Great Britain 🇬🇧, and I hope that it will mean greater opportunities for both of them.

ETA (on Aug 16):
Hmmm ... representing Great Britain, the Fitterers currently belong to Skating Club of New York.
Not sure whether they recently changed clubs, but I still think(?) that their home rink used to be in NJ. And maybe it still is? SCNY members live/train all over North America.

... Here now though.

Glad that you arrived safely. :)

I’m sitting in the West Rink in jeans and a t-shirt and it is COLD in here! I haven’t been to the main rink (the performance center), but people have been telling me it’s cold in there too. Be sure to bring something warm with you to the competition!
Where are you?

Looking forward to the appearance of Tarasova/Morozov in the Pairs. I hope they put down two strong performances. Great to see Bychenko still skating.

Lol, are they identical twins? Looking forward to watch them soon :)
