2021 Cranberry Cup International

As much as I like to stay up to see the rest of events today, i´m starting to get tired, so I will go to bed soon and try to catch up with rest tomorrow, and then I see the ladies FS live tomorrow :)

I´m hoping that Donovan and Alexei will do great in the mens SP :love2:

Good night everybody, enjoy the rest of the evening. It was so nice to look at this event tonight and be in this thread :)

Neither can pass her if she completes all of her elements. She doesn't even need the 3A.
Sure. If Alysa continues to skate with the lighthearted joy, style, technical precision and cleanliness she's been showing, she doesn't need 3A or quads. I'm not interested in seeing forced, under-rotated 3As and quads from Alysa anyway. Please, just allow her to skate, and to further grow into the beautiful, mature personality that Jeremy and Massimo have helped to guide and to free. Please. When and if Alysa is comfortable enough to cleanly and confidently land 3As again (without losing the other quality she's developed), then okay. Forget about the quads, please.

Plus, as we know, Alysa has all the political-backing. But she got all this backing initially for the quad and 3A rep she possessed (with URs, lack of speed and unrefined SS) as an undeveloped, immature youngster whom U.S. fed was desperate and determined to hype up. Cart before horse nonsense, as usual in figure skating.

Gabby 😭
Looks like it will be a battle of technical vs. Artistry. Alysa Liu versus Mariah Bell. Also, the spot for Skate America between Ryberg and Shin. Rooting for Liu and Ryberg. I have a feeling Glenn, You and Izzo will have redemption skates tomorrow. Also, Gracie Gold was way over scored. She should definitely be in the last group with that skate. I think she was the only skater with no triple jumps and she just looks so depressed out there. Judges must have saved with with the PCS score.

Based on those SPs, I'd say Alysa had the edge in both categories. She was faster, smoother, held better positions throughout, seemed more connected to her music, had a program loaded with interesting transitions... although I'm not a fan of that "jazz hands" Ina Bauer.

The SP placements were absolutely correct, but the scoring gap is not. Really... I think they propped Mariah up to keep the gap down to 4 points. I know judges don't award scores based on how I personally liked the programs... but I don't think I'd enjoy Mariah's program even if skated to its highest potential.

Tomorrow is another day, and 4 is certainly not an unsurmountable lead. But today belonged completely to Alysa Liu.

Her hand movements on the Ina Bauer reminds me of La Esmeralda's hand gesture when shaking her tambourine. I think it adds a different effect to that portion. It's not a dramatic bauer but instead a more joyful one.

Well, at least there's SOME explanation for it. My reaction was, "What the hell is that?"
Not a fan of the jazz hands. For me, that is just one small step too far.
Alysa is always solid, seems to actually enjoy competing, does't succumb to nerves etc. I've always thought Alysa should be sent to Nebelhorn, and I still think so. She doesn't even need the 3A there.

I really, really love Alysa's SP this year. I'm in love with the dramatic yet fun orchestral music. And the SS

Goodnight. I probably do the same . Sleep well 😴 😊

Just checked the program thread, she is skating to Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell in her FS, choreo by Shae-Lynn Bourne. I´m very excited to see that, if it works it can be really nice, and I think it will be a good match for Mariah style!
Oh yes that's right. Big Joni Mitchell fan. Definitely think this will be more suited to her. Thank goodness. 😊

I guess tambourine hands is not for everyone 😅, I get it. At the same time, I kinda like them when I imagine her shaking her percussion tambourines to the notes of that music portion.

On Gracie; I know people were saying that she looks joyless but I saw her face expressions very close (literally a few meters away) and I don't think that's the case. She does look like a perfectionist on ice, because she gives you these impeccable arm movements (very very clean, precise and controlled; overall very beautiful) and she seems to put the same pressure on her lower body but her legs just fail her. I don't know if it is because she needs to have more strength or maybe nerves. But she looks like she is carrying a lot of pressure on her gaze. She does look like she wants to be there on the ice though!

I guess I shouldn´t complain about my 6 hours of time difference? :D
Ha ha actually this competition is on at a really good time for me, at least pairs and men's wise, from 8:45 in the morning. I set the alarm more because I'm a forgetful person.

Now the ladies start way too early for me so I'll have to catch up on them later.

The senior pairs look like they will be starting late?

ETA:
Okay, they just announced that the senior pairs will start at 7pm after the ice resurfacing, so 15 minutes late.

^^ Awww, I wouldn't worry about T/M. They in Eteri's camp now. LOL! Just sit back, relax and see how it goes. T/M got the talent and this is their last chance, eh. It's just figure skating, not life or death. If they have good programs, and can believe in themselves and get out of their heads and their personal drama, they should be fine. They got the goods and the experience. Will the move to Eteri help them pull something out of themselves that will allow them to actually connect emotionally on the ice? Will they clean up the unnecessary mistakes? We shall soon find out. I actually wouldn't mind T/M or S/H taking gold at the Olympics. Let the young Russians grow some more, and actually earn the rep status and overdone PCS scores. :)
