I have a sus feeling that Samsonov's spot will go to Gumennik and Mikutina's spot to Samodurova...OR RusFed might save Nugumanova and give her the spot.

I would be happy for Gumennik to get the spot!
I think NHK decides rather than Rusfed... maybe Eva-Lotta could get a second event! Or is Taljegard eligible?

Vincent Zhou has a tough field, with Hanyu and Uno at home. But even with a third he has a good chance to make the finals.

The home federation does decide, and there is no requirement that a vacated spot go to a skater from the same country. Theoretically, it should go to the "next in line" on the standings chart, but that does not always happen.

And even if the Japanese Fed does (and they might), they will choose the skater, and not that skater's own federation.

The discussion about substitutes is moot anyway, since JFed already stated they don't plan to invite any. https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/threads/petr-gumennik.75722/post-2831515

Thank you for the information.

And that goes along with the point: the host fed decides to whether to invite subs, and if they decide to invite subs, the host fed decides who to invite.

But at least we know earlier rather than later.
