I wrote this in the Nepala thread, but thought I'd post here as well:
I LOVE Lajoie/Lagha this season. They have taken a huge step forward in their packaging to look more mature (don't get me wrong, I loved the birds) and it's very successful. He looks taller. This FD is STUNNING. Absolutely beautiful piece of music and stellar choreography. I am so excited to see them grow into this even more as the season goes on. Amazing. Really amazing. They are so exciting this year. They are definitely making a push to move up the Canadian rankings.

Yeah, if we assume Piper and Paul get one - which, let's face it, they will, then that leaves LaLa fighting with the Fournier-Beaudry/Sorenson for the other spot, with other good teams the likes of Lauriault/LeGac and Soucisse/Firus on the outside looking in. That's not even to mention the teams one tier down, who are also really promising and can use the international experience.

And I think Skate Canada will give the nod to F-B/S barring catastrophe. Must be disheartening for a team like LaLa to see their peers from other countries get to go to worlds and they don't because the field in Canada is so deep.

I'd be surprised if Lala (and I am rooting for them!) make the world team... but never say never... we have seen some surprises with team number 3 (when there were 3 spots) before... so anything can happen... a botched twizzle or dance spin... and dang... but I think that LALA can simply see this season as developmental. And then, aim to qualify for worlds in Montreal in 2024... that's the big prize IMHO... and it's actually what FBS are hoping to get too.
 
in the last week, we have found out that Skate Canada crossed the TBA pairs spot and gave out Schumacher's spot to Kate Wang (USA)....

Of course, there is not much depth right now in women... and most of the better ones are competing in juniors internationally...

at the same time, why give out a host spot to someone else ? I could understand if they had brought in a star but if I have seen the name Kate Wang, I do not recall her skating etc.

What do you all think about this ? Should Skate Canada give out its host spots to skaters from other countries??? Do they really have no belief in the potential of Canadian women ?

Canada has always encouraged a difficult, high level field at Skate Canada.

That said, I think they should, unless there really is no option, give the host spots to Canadian skaters, even if they are lower level. This is part of developing these skaters to be more competitive in the future. I tend to agree with you that surely there must have been a Canadian woman they could have given the spot to. I am not familiar with Kate Wang; clearly they didn't invite her because she was a big name that would draw audience.

Considering the little opportunities our skaters had to compete during the pandemic, it would have been appropriate to give a boost to anyone... even if she had finished last...
 
I was just wondering about Alicia myself. She must be done or else I would have hoped that Canada would give the spot to her! But there is also Amanda Tobin. If you are going to give the spot to an unknown skater why not one of our own and not one from the USA. So does this mean that for 4CC they won`t have 3 ladies to send. Also it will look really funny if this unknown comes in and beats our 2 CAN ladies. I do not know what to expect with Gabby after yet another injury and I think there is something going on with Maddy that no one has shared yet. Her scores have been going down and down ever since her great skates in the team events at the Olympics. And with 3 falls in her last event I really think there may have been an injury or something.

Yes. That is exactly correct. We haven’t seen much of Amanda Tobin. But, Amanda would have been a solid choice. Also, Michele Long, who finished 4th at Canadian Nationals, one spot ahead of Alison, scoring over 160+. She doesn’t have the technical difficulty. But, she has beautiful artistry and that could have been a nice farewell to this veteran. Her and the skaters I’m about to mention, all would have done similar to Alison at this event. We have Lia Perreira, who finished 14th at Junior Worlds and 6th at her most recent Junior Grand Prix. She scored 150+ at both of these events and I believe 160+ at Senior Domestic event. Also, Justine scored 160+ at the Quebec Senior event. Also, Kaiya Ruiter is back and just won the local AB event yesterday… She had a solid SP with a 3F 3T. The free skate wasn’t so good. But, she still scored 160+ at this domestic event. I’m disappointed to not see this spot given to a Canadian Lady. It could have been good exposure for one of them.

Michelle Long retired in August, so she's not an option. Lia can't do Senior Grand Prix events this season, as she already competed at a JGP event and you can't do both in the same season (at least not in the same discipline), same goes for Justine.

The other two, however, would have indeed been options.
 
Kaiya is perhaps doing Egna... who knows? Fiona Bombardier wouldn't have been a bad choice either... I don' t think she competed on the JGP circuit yet.

Oh! I see. Long 🥹; she was a lovely skater. The rule about Juniors makes sense. So, Amanda Tobin and Kaiya Ruiter were two solid choices. Maybe, Tobin is injured and Kaiya isn’t back to full form in time before the decision was made. Canada did finish in 8th, 11th and 12th last year. But, this year, without the Russians, we have Brezina, Starr Andrews, a Dutch girl that our Canadian girls can be competitive with.
 
To me, it's not even about the results... it's about competition experience.. You got that spot, give it to a Canadian... even if everyone knows she will not win...

How is Amelia Orzel? She was injured earlier this summer... but if she is back in shape.. why not her? She is with Ravi now...

So far, Rose has been chosen for Egna with Fiona and Kaiya as subs. You are right… maybe, they prefer the Junior Circuit instead and we just don’t have anybody interested, so Skate Canada had to just select anybody.

Amelia is in awful shape. I watched the AB competition and she finished in 4th place scoring 120+. She only landed one triple. A triple loop. Everything else was double jumps or popped single jumps 🥺

I guess her injury prevents her from doing the bigger toe assisted jumps still.

Not necessarily. Skaters who do the JGP aren't allowed to do the senior GP, but they can do Euros/4CCs/Worlds. Lia Pereira is being sent to Finlandia, so she'll have a chance to get her senior minimums. Skate Canada has three more CS events on the calendar (IceChallenge, Warsaw Cup and Golden Spin) for November and December, so they could send a couple other girls out to those. We'll have to see.
