I don't know the exact number of days, but at a certain point, GPs are no longer obligated to invite subs when a skater w/d. Someone who knows the details could tell you here if Skate Canada is obligated or not at this point.

The "rule" is

It is mandatory that an Organizing ISU Member replaces any Pair who withdraws from the event with an alternate up to fourteen (14) days prior to the Team Leaders Meeting for that event.

For a Women or Men Skater, up to fourteen (14) days prior to the Team Leaders Meeting for that event, it is voluntary that an Organizing ISU Member replaces any Skater who withdraws from the event who would be the 11th or 12th entry but must replace with an alternate any Skater who withdraws if fewer than 10 entries remain.

For an Ice Dance couple, up to fourteen (14) days prior to the draw for that event, it is voluntary that a host country replaces any Ice Dance couple who withdraws from the event who would be the 9th or 10th entry but must replace any Dance couple who withdraws with an alternate couple if fewer than 8 entries remain.

At the fourteen-day mark, consideration will be given by the ISU Grand Prix Coordination Group to leaving a position vacant because of visa requirements or unduly high travel costs that would be incurred by the Organizing ISU Member.

I’m thinking they may also get the NHK vacant spot.

I have wondered why they have not yet given a vacant spot to Yunoki/Ichihashi seeing as Wakaba's spot was re-allocated so quickly...I am pretty sure they meet the minimum scores and there's not many pairs left on the list.

I think there is still a long list before her, and, as the quoted rule, with 11 skaters, they don’t have to replace, so I expect ‘do nothing’ approach. There are I think a few women in SkAm without second assignment who are neither Am nor Can, so… ?

Valesi/Piazza (Italy) assigned to Skate America (spot vacated by Danilova/Tsiba)

Tsiba confirmed they withdrew because of lack of VISA in time. Tsiba wrote on social media "We hope we can share some more news next week about another Grand Prix assignment for us."
I guess it can mean ISU is working out giving them the NHK vacant spot as they did with the Ukrainian pair who had to withdraw from Skate America because of VISA issues (they were switched to Finland which had a vacant spot at the time).

I hope it's not just people from Eastern Europe who are having VISA issues these days, regardless of which country they represent. Some like Gubanova seem to be okay, but I've noticed problems for Danilova/Tsiba, a Ukrainian pair, I suppose Reshtenko WD from France is the same type of issue as Shaidorov when he WD from France in the spring, i.e. VISA... I'm not happy about this.

The Georgians don't have visa issues, because, despite (almost?) all of their skaters being Russian-born, all of them also have a Georgian passport. Danilova doesn't have Dutch citizenship, only Russian citizenship. Reshtenko also doesn't have Czech citizenship (as far as I know), just Russian citizenship.

The only non-Russian citizens with visa issues so far are the Ukrainian pair - Not sure of the exact issue, maybe something to do with issues in the administrative infrastructure due to the war? The US embassy in Kyiv is closed and I assume other administrative facilities are also working at a lower capacity, which might pose problems even when applying for a US visa in another country's embassy.

It was announced just after their withdrawal that they would need to travel to Poland to sort out a visa and it would require taking too much time off of training.

A speedy recovery to Yi Zhu! I wonder if Kailani Craine can be invited in her place? Or Natasha McKay? Or Yuhana Yokoi, if she's doing Canada and there are only two JPN women in SA? It's on such a short notice, but hopefully a substitute can be found.

I vote for Kailani Craine for skate america, she is fun to watch and I don't have see her new program yet.
