2022-23 JGPF Junior Pairs Short Program

If this is not appropriate, please delete, but as good as Sophia and Daniel are, I feel like it’s unfair that they’re paired together. This is the only year they can compete together internationally for about 3-4 years because of the new age minimum rule.

True for the Japanese team as well. Actually, I think Smith/ Deng are definitely the team here with the most long term potential. They aren't the best team now but they are perfectly matched in age and skating. They are also the only team with several years of junior eligibility left. They have time to grow as a team and the basics needed for success are already present.

it's not a bad thing at all. The older and taller guy can help in training a younger, smaller woman. Of course, as he ages out, he will most likely get a new partner but will himself, have gained the experience of competing at a higher level, just like at this JGPF. He will have developed skills and strength in lifts and throws as well. The age differences are not new.. but the new rules will simply mean that pairs will swap partners quicker. In the end, if a pair really gels, they could opt to work with other partners and come back together when they are both seniors. Skating juniors is simply a way for many to prepare for seniors.. and that's a great way for both partners. Otherwise, the younger girls may pick an age suited partner but he will be weaker, shorter, etc and she may not be able to learn the same elements etc.

I don't see any problem at all with this other than fans getting attached to junior skaters and hoping they will skate together forever..
