The problem with figure skating is the high degree of Russophobia long before any war with Ukraine, so the first opportunity other countries had to ban Russians from skating they took it. There's a lot of envy and jealousy especially for their dominance in ladies. Rarely did anyone say anything positive about Russians.

Yes, top tennis players spoke against banning the Russian/Belarussian athletes which probably went a long way towards their sport's governing bodies decisions, that is something that figure skating did not get. Sure the pairs discipline is going to be a scarce field and the ladies discipline will regress 20 years in the technical output, but hey the discipline won't be dominated by 1 country.

Well obviously you didnt pay a lot of attention to figure skating before the war, cause then you would know how much Russians skaters are grossly overscored or the double standards when it comes to edge calls,

There's no gross overscoring of Russian women. If you want overscoring look at the 2022 world championship.

It's not a matter of overscoring that if you deliver 1, 2 and more quads and possibly even some 3A, and also you keep all the levels on 4, you finish 20 and more points ahead of skaters who struggle with basic 3+3 combos, can't keep levels and are lacking behind in artistry (no matter the crying about "adult skating").

She was in junior team previous season. It looks like they just wanted to add all top skaters, no matter what category they will compete in. It's like Kovalev in juniors, Yametova in novices.

How’s Sinitsina back in juniors… and why Zhilina is main team? She basically delivers disasters… and, of course, Morozova didn’t make the team either. Argh.

Zhilina i think got it based on winning her only JGP event last year. I don't follow juniors that close but it seems like they are pushing her along based on talent vs. what she actually delivers, this was the second junior nationals in a row that she bombed, she also had poor showings the last 2 years at the Cup Final.

Maria Gordeeva is mistakenly listed with junior pairs. It looks like she should have been in novices.

Zhilina i think got it based on winning her only JGP event last year. I don't follow juniors that close but it seems like they are pushing her along based on talent vs. what she actually delivers, this was the second junior nationals in a row that she bombed, she also had poor showings the last 2 years at the Cup Final.

Well, that single performance put her in JGPF, but seeing the season is all national… anyway, yes, she always gets a pass w/o delivering.

Well Muravieva was very consistent on the JGP, then she instroduced the 3As and she became consistent-ish.
But she is certainly is a more artistic skater than Maya.

That's it, she isn't. she had some good results, but also - not that good. And she did not finish her last event.

I mean, with the new age rule, Nika is going to be one of their best bets for the 2026 Olympics, so it makes sense for them to push her. She already has the tech content, so it's really just about pushing her to get the consistency.

Unrelated, but kinda sad Samodelkina isn't on the senior team, but o well, just too many talented
