2022 Belairdirect BC/YK Super Series Summerskate AUG 18-21, 2022

Terry Yu Tao Jin - first Ina Bauer of the night, StSq 4 and at least 2 spins lv 4 also.
Snoozy music unfortunately but suits his style.

David Li - looks the youngest, but has the most distinctive costume so far. Did I hear "Eleanor Rigby" Not the original I think. Sound is a bit muted, already have the laptop on maximum. Other rink is much louder.

I just came back from work... anyone watching ? Did anyone see my son ? (Conrad?) How did her do?

The stream is live and says senior women next.. is that correct? Seems off-schedule...

Uliana Shiryaeva

2a. good
3f a bit better (nice exit)
ch combo spin not fabulous on the change but good
3.z-3t- rippon on the 3t. Lutz a bit forward but managed the combo fine.
flying sit spin good
step sequence... intricate but too many steps and turn.. a bit laboured.
layback spin : amazing flexibility of the back but not so great leg extension in the bielmann posiiton

much better than anyone else so far however.

score 58.99 in first... i wonder if the lutz was q.. or something like that... seems a bit low

hilarious : the top two skaters represent Russia and Hong Kong but they put the Quebec flag :) I guess they didn't have the right flags and just were meh... let's use the quebec flag, we never get to use it as nobody from Quebec ever comes to the BC summer skates :) ;)

Protocols came up ...

Conrad is in first... some iffy landings and a q on the 4S but managed 78...
Wesley is far behind as he doubled both the solo jump and combo... so got 0 points for those.

For Women : Uliana's low score is explained by dubious edges (!) on both her flip and lutz which lowered her GOE.

Yes, Uliana changing feds:
"The request for the transition was sent by the Canadian Federation, and Russia will consider it in December. During this transition period, the Moscow club allowed her to participate in non—qualifying competitions," said Ted Barton, Chairman of the Canadian Figure Skating Federation in British Columbia

Yes, Uliana changing feds:
Figure skater Uliana Shiryaeva joins the Canadian national team, BIV reports.

A request to transfer the 15-year-old Russian woman has already been sent to the Canadian Figure Skating Federation, and the Russian side will consider it in December.

In 2021, Shiryaeva won bronze among juniors at the Russian Cup stage, and in 2022 she became 11th at the Russian championship among juniors.
Ulyana Shiryaeva moved to Canada, she was allowed to speak at a local tournament. Skate Canada director Mike Slipchak announced this.

Shiryaeva, 15, moved to Canada earlier in 2022 and has already been entered into the Belair Direct BC tournament, which takes place August 18-21 in Burnaby.

Here's a link to the BIV article - some of it was incorrectly translated. She's not joining the national team - not yet, anyway, but she is permitted to skate in non-qualifying events. She would also need to be on the road to becoming a Canadian citizen in order to represent Canada.

Here it is Uliana is at 1:24:21
She is good ! I wonder why Canada have decide to take her ? Does her mother or her father is Canadian ?
If her transfer to Russia to Canada is accept, she will have a bright future here in Canada. I'm happy for this girl if she manage to have her Canadian citizens. And, I hope that other Russian skater have this opportunity to became Canadian citizen. :)

I thought for a country to have the power to decide to "release" a skater or not, the skater must have competed at an ISU competition representing that country. I don't see that Shiryaeva has represented Russia internationally. Or is this a Russian rule that Canada is respecting?

Uliana had bronze medal in a stage of a Russian Cup and was in Junior Nationals last year. Russia tried to push this rule through this past Congress to be able to hold skaters who were in national competitions, but was luckily shut down. But, for some reason, the article still says RusFed has to get involved, and that’s just some BS. 🤪

I am glad she is doing well with the move and all
