I ran a few predictions earlier in the week and basically the silver/bronze situation for the US and Japan will come down to pairs. A mistake from the top two that pushes M/K into the top two or a disaster from K/F in the short (or even a mediocre skate in a well-skated field) could really hurt, but if both place about where expected Japan is threeish points behind US.

This is shaping up to be a really interesting battle for the medals. That's a nice change from prior Olympics. If Japan gets a good skate in the pairs, I think that just about locks the medalists, just a question of who is on which step

Canada is going to need 8pts in pairs to give them a reasonable chance to advance.

Ah, didn't know that he was quarantined for five days. It shows in the roughness of the program. A lot of flat, slow, or scratchy landings on everything, and a loss of speed as the program progressed. But they should be happy to be able to compete and not be sidelined for something out of their control

The triple twist was nice, though.

Someone said in another thread that they decided to stay back as they
understood from the federation that they won't be selected for the TE anyways
Davis/Smolkin and Semenenko are there with the team. I wonder if that means they will skate the FS.

Would it be so hard for the IOC to put levels on the scorebox? Who designed such a pathetically basic scorebox anyway?
iirc, four years ago the explanation for no tech boxes at the olympics like we see at World's, 4CC, etc was that it's a rights issue between IOC and ISU. But that's a huge "IF I recall correctly..."

Well, it is turning out to be a bit of a battle for Russia for gold. I didn’t expect USA to win the ice dance portion over the Russians. The Americans are locking it down now for at least a silver medal. Still 95% chance of Russia winning gold.
It's never been a 95% chance... the Russia is a strong favorite rather than slight favorite was always a bad meme.

Russia underperformed a bit in dance and overperformed a bit in men. They're in fine position but it doesn't take much for the US to win.

And who would want to spend two weeks surrounded by people in hazmat suits and being served food by robots?

Hawayek/Baker were with the team tonight too, and it's pretty unlikely they'll be skating the FD (plus Chock/Bates were also there). It's hard to say what Russia's strategy will be for the free skates but I don't think we can really know from who's in the K&C.
