2022 Olympics Team Event Day1: Pairs Short Program

Davis/Smolkin and Semenenko are there with the team. I wonder if that means they will skate the FS.

I wouldn't count on Semenenko, As Russia can only swap two events and it has been reported
that Valieva doesn't want to compete both skates, And everyone's assuming D\S will be the next swap
option due to all that nepotism, So he might just be there for team spirit, His individual event is coming up next
anyways, There's still a bit more time before Ice Dance starts

Hawayek/Baker were with the team tonight too, and it's pretty unlikely they'll be skating the FD (plus Chock/Bates were also there). It's hard to say what Russia's strategy will be for the free skates but I don't think we can really know from who's in the K&C.
Good to hear. I was hoping they would sub in ladies (still hoping for Anna Shcherbakova)

ZUKOVA Jelizaveta / BIDAR Martin

Unfortunately, too many mistakes. Slight bent leg for her on the landing of the 3Twist. Flip-out from him on the sbs 3T and a step-out for her on the throw 3Lz. The last few elements were good, though. The step sequence shows their potential.

I just expected Russia to sub dance because of Nikita´s back.

And who would want to spend two weeks surrounded by people in hazmat suits and being served food by robots?
Well they are essentially throwing away an Olympic medal, and those don't come very often.

However, with SinKats not doing their best in the RD, I would be shocked if they are not competing in the FD. Russia can't afford to lose too many events now.

Huh Liza Zhuk looks different from what I remember, maybe I'm mixing her up with another Liza, didn't her hair used to be darker?

How rude Ch 7 has decided to show more curling instead of the team event. Well there's Aussies competiting so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. :p

Pairs is really the most interesting discipline in the pairs event. It would appear that China and Russia should be way out front. However, after that there are a lot of teams that could challenge for that third place. The Japanese, Americans, Canadians, Italians, etc... I'm excited!

It's never been a 95% chance... the Russia is a strong favorite rather than slight favorite was always a bad meme.

Russia underperformed a bit in dance and overperformed a bit in men. They're in fine position but it doesn't take much for the US to win.
I concur, ROC is still sitting pretty. If US can get 3rd's (no worse than 4th's) in pairs and women, they could give them a run for gold

The Australian channels are a mess, always.

Moonlight...by a heavy metal band o.O

That's a new one...as long as it doesn't have excerpts from Emo Beethoven I guess.

Oh wait it's this one. Ew.

If Russia feel at danger heading into the FS they won't care much about Nikita's back will they?
They'll have him do it as to not lose 2-3 potential points
Probably not. They definitely didn´t expect to lose dance RD.

That seems like a terrible idea...what if Nikita totally throws out his back and can't even finish the program? Then Russia loses any chance at a medal at all. Seems safer to put Diana and Gleb in.
