There seems to have been a simple rule:
USA --> PCS over 6
not USA --> PCS under 6.
Out of 18 skaters, there were 3 exceptions (2 USA, 1 CAN)

JGP Budapest assignments:
Jr Men:
David Howes
Jr Women: Aleksa Volkova
Jr Pairs: Martina Ariano Kent/Charly Laliberte Laurent, Ava Kemp/Yohnatan Elizarov
Jr Ice Dance: Caroline Kravets/Jacob Stark, Dana Sabatini-Speciale/Nicholas Buelow

Lulu still didn't get a JGP assignment, and Korneva/MacDonald are also still waiting :confused:
Tough and very big pairs field, and finally some alternates have been named (so no more lost spots, hopefully).

Caroline Kravets/Jacob Stark…I haven’t seen them in a Junior Dance event this summer. And I don’t see them as a NextGen team. Where have they competed this season?

Ontario sectionals this weekend. They placed 5th, behind multiple teams without JGP assignments (Korneva/MacDonald, Bolender/Dotzert and Gover/Wilson-French), so God knows what Skate Canada is doing. Though they are one of the youngest teams in terms of eligibility (together with Carandiuc/Carandiuc and Gans/Boutsan, their last junior-eligible season will be in 2026/27), so maybe it's strategic planning for the future.

I just watched Lulu Lin's free skate from Ontario August Sectionals and was very impressed (again) with her performance and skills - better than at NextGen simulation competition. For those of you not glued to your computer on Sunday, it is at about the 6 hour - 1 minute mark of this video. I am assuming she will (must) get a JGP assignment. I believe she will impress internationally. Marks are here. (in case this has been posted elsewhere).

I was also impressed with Breken Brezden, Abbie Baltzer and Megan Woodley. Not as clean and consistent but definitely talent there to watch develop.

I found the scores and it looks like two judges didn't like her.

Skate Canada did some website updating... That's what we have so far (I didn't include GPs).

two judges didn't like her and the others thought she was average ?? Was there a judge who gave her good scores?
Judge 1 (Saaraliisa Ehalt from Finland) and Judge 6 (Erica Topolski from Canada), who gave her their 4th highest PCS with 26.94 and 6th highest PCS with 25.27 in the Short.

In the Free there weren't really any judges giving her a lot higher placements in PCS than she ended up having in average and nobody gave her above 50, but 4 out of 6 judges gave her between 48.00 and 49.40.

@icewhite

Her highest PCS score (combined from all judges) = 6.0 in the SP.. .everything else averaged to below 6. I am not saying the Fiona deserves 8, but 5s and 6s is very low.

Looking at the PCS scores from 2021 JGP Courcheval where Kaiya, Lindsay, and Claire all scored similarly if not near identical scores. In the subsequent two years Lindsay’s PCS scores have gone way up but Kaiya’s have flat lined if not come down. I wonder to vault into that next category for higher PCS means money needed for niche choreography and music editing.

I think this is the reason. I don't necessarily agree with all the dance choices, but the selections did make a lot more sense once I looked at a list with all the teams' ages. I believe Skate Canada normally draws a line at 2-3 years of eligibility left (ie. 2 or fewer / 3 or more), for things like NextGen team selection. And the JGP selections seem to follow that as well. Those younger teams are getting spots over other teams who've had higher scores because the bar isn't the same between them. I do get the strategy of investing in a few of the young teams, since it's beneficial when a team can spend a few seasons on the JGP and work their way up.

Years of junior eligibility left:
  • 1 (this season only) : Lewis/McMillan, Nguyen/Giang, Martel/Oddson, Goodstadt/Bennett, Korneva/MacDonald, Fournier/Zhu, Pehl/Yu, Chung/MacKenzie
  • 2 (this season and next) : Veillon/Brandys, Sabatini-Speciale/Buelow
  • 3 (this season and next 2) : Cinçon-Debout/Celestino
  • 4 (this season and next 3) : Carandiuc/Carandiuc, Kravets/Stark, Gans/Boutsan
*Gover/Wilson-French have either 1 or 2. Her bio on IDE says she was born in 2005, but idk which half of the year.
I don't know the ages for Bolender/Dotzert, so can't say where they fit in.

Right now we have:
  • 2 spots for : Nguyen/Giang, Veillon/Brandys, Sabatini-Speciale/Buelow
  • 1 spot for : Martel/Oddson, Goodstadt/Bennett, Carandiuc/Carandiuc, Kravets/Stark
  • 4 spots left
If Lewis/McMillan are ready, presumably they'd get 2 of those 4 left, but idk how likely that is. Assuming they aren't in the picture, I think you'd want to have at least one for a 2nd spot for Martel/Oddson based on summer scores (could be changed to another team depending on how their first one goes). Which would leave 3 spots. Of the teams who haven't got a spot yet, I would give Korneva/MacDonald and Fournier/Zhu 1 each, then the last spot could be either a 2nd for whoever does the best of those two and Goodstadt/Bennett, or for one of the other teams without a spot yet (not sure which I'd pick). If L/M are ready, then I'd do 2 for them, a 2nd for M/O and 1 for K/M.
