Is Bavarian Cup the last opportunity to get the minimums for Junior Worlds? (Challenge Cup would be too late?)
Yes, though teams could get minimums for next year (particularly for the newer teams who've had maybe one competition this season that would be a good thing).

Fun fact: Scotti/Quesada train in Bergamo at Ice Lab like many of the top European pairs.

Here's also a little lift video shared on Twitter:

Oh, and just a bit before Bavarian Open, there are also four teams aiming for minimums at the Youth Olympic Games:

AUS - Bellamy-Martins / Pradeaux (both)
CAN - Behnke / Sauve (both)
ESP - Campillo / Vilella (both)
USA - Smith / McPike (both)

Sadly, none of the four Pairs contestants got the minimum TES at YOG for their SP's. The Canadians came very close.

I'm just pleased that AnniKole got their FP minimums. They have the SP minimums to aspire to next season.

Been thinking about what next season looks like for Martina & Charlie and Jasmine & Kieran. They will be age-eligible to skate both junior and senior. Do they move up, not move up, skate a split season and see where opportunity takes them?

I see you liked my AnniKole nickname :)
I call Martina and Charly Marly :)
I am not willing to call Jasmine and Kieran Jakie yet... LOL

Unfortunately, Crivolap/Mager (GER), Steblyanka/Gneidig (GER) and Pacha/Derechowski (POL) withdrew at some point, but out of the 8 remaining pairs hunting for minimums 5 of them managed to achieve them here :cheer: (Scotti/Quesada (ESP), Rothenbuehler/Berei (HUN), Enkina/Kovalenko (ISR), Shimizu/Honda (JPN), Zheng/Deng (USA))

So let's look at a little summary of pairs who have minimums for Jr Worlds (and have competed in Juniors this season) by country (and how many spots each country has for Jr Worlds):
CountrySpots at Jr WorldsPairs
CAN2ARIANO KENT Martina / LALIBERTÉ-LAURENT Charly
CALLAHAN Beau / ROCH Christophe
DESROCHERS Jazmine / THRASHER Kieran
KEMP Ava / ELIZAROV Yohnatan
CHN2SHI Wenning / WANG Zhiyu
YANG Yixi / DENG Shunyang
CZE2COHEN Debora Anna / VOCHOZKA Lukas
ESP1SINCLAIR SCOTTI Claudia / QUESADA Noah
FRA2EHRHARD Louise / PELLEGRIS Matthis
TELEMAQUE Romane / COULON Lucas
GBR1HAY Lucy / McLEOD Kyle
GEO1METELKINA Anastasiia / BERULAVA Luka
GER2ACKERMANN Aliyah / HARMS Tobija
LOEWENHERZ Sonja / LOEWENHERZ Robert
HUN1ROTHENBUEHLER Nora Marleen / BEREI Mozes Jozsef
ISR1ENKINA Sofia / KOVALENKO Nikita
ITA1NAPOLITANO Irina / COMI Edoardo
POLMAN Polina / RENOLDI Gabriel
JPN2SHIMIZU Sae / HONDA Lucas Tsuyoshi
SVK1SITKOVA Nikola / KUBACAK Oliver
UKR2SIEROVA Violetta / KHOBTA Ivan
USA3FLORES Olivia / WANG Luke
WILLIAMS Naomi / LEWER Lachlan
ZHENG Adele / DENG Andy

So in the best-case scenario (everyone stays healthy and together, and everyone manages to get visa), we might get to see 21 (!) Junior pairs from 15 countries - If this is the case, it would be the first time since 2018-19 for Pairs to have a cut-off for the Free at Jr Worlds, and the first time since 2012 (when there was still a preliminary round and no minimum technical score) for there to be above 20 pairs at Jr Worlds. (And that even completely without any teams representing Russia!) 🤯

Bit of an update, there might not be any Chinese skaters at Jr Worlds this year at all as it's being held in Taiwan (and Taiwan doesn't generally give out visa for Chinese citizens easily), but even 19 pairs entries would still be the biggest field since 2011/12.

International relations have worsened between China and Taiwan in the past few years. China stopped giving out individual visit permits for Taiwan to Chinese citizens in 2019, and restrictions on business travelers have only been loosened from the Taiwanese side last August. From September 2023 on, individual Chinese travelers were again allowed to apply to enter Taiwan from a third-party country, but not directly from China. Travel groups coming from China directly are also allowed again, but capped at 2000 arrivals per day, and there's also a visa approval cap of 14,600 persons per day.
Some of these restrictions are old, some are new, but it's definitely not gotten any easier to get a visa recently.

I am thinking there may be some sort of exception made for athletes because of code of ethics / fair play... but we will find out very soon.

Update: No Chinese pairs on the Jr Worlds Entry list (or any other Chinese skaters for that matter).
Makes me feel like this is an issue more from the side of the Chinese state, as usually skaters with visa issues will still be on the initial entry list and withdraw later on. 🤔

Great news for pairs skating :cheer:
I expected something like that but even I am positively surprised.

What about the other Japanese pair though? Moriguchi had such a great beginning in pairs skating. What's happening now? :(
Good to know that Shimizu/Honda have secured minimum TES. I'm looking forward to see them.

Moriguchi and his new partner Yuna Nagaoka are competing in Seniors. They were also at Bavarian Open for Worlds minimums but unfortunately didn't manage to get the SP minimum. They're on the entry list for Challenge Cup, so they have one more chance this season 😊

I see.
I wonder if he changed his partner because he wanted to compete in seniors.
What's happening to Haruna Murakami? Is there a chance that she might compete in juniors with a different partner (apparently not this season but still)?
