The girls event was really good. Everything is so easy for Margarita. I prefer then free skate to the short because you see all her strengths she doesn't quite stand out to me in the short, but it's easy to forget that she's 12 and the artistry will continue to develop.

The two Tatarstan girls were the big surprise they skated their maximum, Riana did well to get bronze from 6th place after the short program.

What's going on with Titova? Is it all the shows Plushenko drags her to surely it can't be optimal for such a young skater to be doing shows during the season.

It was too bad that Petrova missed out I enjoy her skating most of all, but she's not going to get too many medals jumping 3-2 combos in Russia. Hopefully she can develop some extra strength over time. Maybe the new age rules will work in her favour.

There have been some eclectic music choices by the Kazan DJ, he was playing Captain Jack at the end of the short yesterday, but after Agata's skate the DJ was playing "Short D**k Man" (the explicit version) and Agata with her no doubt limited English proficiency starts bopping her head a little. A little disturbing it was.

You don't need a 3+3 in FS if you don't have the 3A or/and quads (look at Riana's content and her BV).

The problem is that her jumps are getting less consistent and she started missing levels on the spins (they used to be her strength).

Interesting bit of information for you all: with the men's multiplier, Rita's score would be 255 and hence put her 2nd place amongst the men. If she was allowed a 3A instead of a 2A in the SP, then it would be 260+, at which point the only difference between her and the men's first (270) is her failed 4T.

Margarita would certainly blow away the international field if she is allowed to compete in the JGP next year.

Grishin was commenting that this year the distinctive feature of RoCGP is that we are seeing more athletes developing regionally. Tbh, that's what I would have liked them to take pride in, that a kid from Tyumen' or another place would have a desire at age 5 or 7 to skate to music, and that they can find a coach, skates and ice to do that. Far more legit thing to be proud of than what they are seemingly proud of with the topics not allowed to be discussed here, lol.

I agree. I remember Nina Mozer saying a few years back that she wants to support the developent of talented skaters across the regions, instead of talent spotting and then relocating them at a young age away from their families to Moscow or Piter.

In fact, there are far fewer talented boy skaters in the province than girls, there are simply fewer of them. The choice is much smaller, there is no competition. Raising a talented girl is somewhat easier, a boy requires a much greater investment of effort.

That's true. As a hockey maniac I have to suggest that boys in the regions might prefer to play this most wonderful sport in the world - where they also get more support.

Big day of skating ahead. I think Valieva will be stable today she did her jumps in the short program at test skates quite easily despite no preparation and it being two months ago. I imagine she is at peak fitness right now.

Well I'm excited for the Senior portion of this event, Kirill S, Danill S and Zhenya S in the mens and Sofia M in the womens.

Interesting how there's no senior dance event here, it's like the opposite of the JGPs!

In fact, it's a big mistake. Last year there really weren't many senior couples. But now there are a lot more of them, and because of that some of them don't get spots. First of all, it negatively affects the strongest region, Moscow, because there're regional spots. I hope that next year they will return as it was, because many strong junior couples will move up to seniors, and also new couples such as Kaganovskaia/Nekrasov and Pasechnik/Cirisano will debut.

That's true. As a hockey maniac I have to suggest that boys in the regions might prefer to play this most wonderful sport in the world - where they also get more support.

Funny thing is, I'm a big fan of men's junior skating and I wish more boys would come into this sport. Especially since without the development of male junior skating there will be no development of adult pairs skating and ice dancing, because there will be no partners who got the necessary skating skills (jumping, gliding and so on) in childhood. Only in the movies can you put a former hockey player and a former singles figure skater in a pair and succeed because they have ingeniously learned all the elements and are ready to fight for the Olympic podium.

As for hockey, I live near the junior hockey rink for our local hockey team. There are a lot of students, I'm constantly seeing kids lugging huge suitcases of equipment and sticks, and I see lights in the windows and practices. Hockey is much more popular in the province than figure skating.

Yeah, it's different. In big cities, there are more coaches who work with young boys and less prejudice that prevents parents from choosing this sport. This is very easy to see: regional competitions in Moscow and St. Petersburg - several boys' warm-ups; regional competitions in smaller cities - one boys' warm-up, and often there are two or three participants in the warm-up.

Although even Mozalev, who has been practicing since childhood in St. Petersburg, which has a renowned men's singles skating school, admitted in interviews that he was bullied in elementary school because of the "girly" sport. I think there are even more problems with this in the regions.
