2023 Abu Dhabi Classic Figure Skating Trophy

Oooh, the penultimate skater, who is Emirati but from a different club to the ones I have been talking about, also had toys thrown at her rather than delivered. But, this time there were 2 wee girls doing the throwing, and the skater and her coach couldn't keep up with them!

The coach actually looked familiar. I bet she is a former skater that we were watching competing just a few years ago. But, I can't place who she is.

Skater #35 went into 33rd position.

The final skater, who is from the same club as the majority of Emirati skaters in the final group, has a Russian name, and she actually reminds me of one of the Russian skaters. But, I can't think who.

She had quite a few cuddly toys, and her coach (who also looked familiar) lined them up across the sofa!

Skater #36 goes into 8th position.

And that's it. We finish up with a Georgian 1-2, and a local girl in 3rd!

I was feeling sorry for the second boy, because he was left sitting on the sofa on his own with his cuddly toy. But, a few minutes after the resurfacing started, I glanced over at the screen, and saw a whole crowd of girls standing taking pictures of him, and getting their picture taken with him!

The lucky devil!

Included in this crowd were some of the relatively young coaches that we saw during the last group of the girls competition, as well as some of the skaters from that group!

Suffice to say, he is from the same club.

After all the photos were taken and the crowd dispersed, the sofa was taken away and a podium put in it's place.

It's an hour until the Advanced Novices start, so I guess we are now going to have some Podium Ceremonies now.

It was indeed Zahra giving out the flowers.

There was a bit of drama with the boys podium. They were doing it in reverse order, and things went smoothly for the Emirati boy who finished second. But then the Estonian winner was introduced, and he stood on the 3rd place step, and angrily gestured towards the 1st place step, before getting up onto it.

I have no idea what that was all about!

Didn't realise that this event was doubling up as the National Championships.

There was another Podium Ceremony for the local girls after the boys.

Now the podium has been taken away, and everything is being put back into place.

Right, it appears that I missed the Podium Ceremonies for the Intermediate Novices when I was trying to catch up earlier. So, I am going to wind the stream back now and find them.

Opening Ceremony started a few minutes ago. But, it looks like it is just dignitaries giving speeches.

My goodness! Who was that skater that did the third performance?! The one in a dress rather than UAE Team uniforms. She was great!!!

All I could catch of her name was "Sofia".

The Ice Dance partnership on after her was good too! I didn't make out any of their names. But, they were skating to "Gasolina" by Daddy Yankee. And I remember somebody skating to that in the past year or so.

EDIT: It was Elizaveta Pasechnik / Maksim Nekrasov I was talking about, who I saw at Russian Nationals in December. And after looking at pictures of them, it was definitely them perfroming in the Opening Ceremony here!​

The Ladies skater at the end was great too. And although it has been a few years since I saw her, I would swear that it was Nugumanova. Or, at least somebody that looks like she used to. But, I didn't make out the name at all before the performance, and there was interference when her name was announced again at the end.

Let's hope they either get it revived or start a new one before the Advanced Novices start their actual programmes.

But, since they are in separate groups, I will do separate reminder posts.

This is the competition I have been waiting for, and it is the reason I abandoned Łódź to concentrate on this event. Because one of my kids is here!!!

And I don't have long to wait either. Because she is the second girl to skate.

Here we go! Appearing in what is her "home" event (as she trains up the road in Dubai).

Unfortunately, they were having problems with the graphics when the first skater was getting her scores, and when Stefania was being introduced. But, thankfully, there were no problems with the TES Box when it appeared.

Fell on the second part (Triple Toe) of her opening combination. But after that, everything went well.

That spin into the choreographic slide at the end of the Step Sequence caught me out yet again! I thought it was another fall, and then I remembered.

No Sergei today, but she does have her other regular companion, SuperSimone the sloth

I take it that is somebody from the rink she trains at that is sitting with her. She's cute!

Stefania goes into 2nd position, 3.88 points behind the opening skater.

That's the problem with going so early. We won't know for a while where that puts her in the greater scheme of things.

But, ignoring the fall, I thought she did well!

I remember the last time I saw the Gervits sisters at the EDU Sport Trophy. I absolutely loved this programme from Katarina then, and I absolutely loved it again today!

Elizabet is still leading, as she has done since the start of the segment.

Katarina goes into 6th position, 12.66 points behind Elizabet.

Of the two Short Programmes by the sisters, I still prefer Katarina's...

Oh, boys but I love a bit of "Palladio".

Could Hannah FRANK (AUT) finally be the skater to take the lead away from Elizabet GERVITS (ISR)?

Nope. But she does take 2nd position away from my girl Stefania YAKOVLEVA (CYP).

Hannah is 2.56 points behind Elizabet, and 1.32 points ahead of Stefania.
